GW2 Four Years Ago

The bit with the elementalist in Queensdale, around 4 minutes in, must be from a very old beta. (Or alpha?) I wasn’t in the early betas myself (only pre-purchase ones) but I’ve never even seen screenshots of the equipment tab looking like that.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
Some of the things were cool. The dye seeds, nope. You could only unlock a dye once a day as I recall, or was it you had to wait a day for the seed to grow?
That warrior bow skill, woof. Here’s a video I remember rofling at when it came out:
You could only unlock one dye seed every 24 hours in beta, by talking to an NPC in your home instance. But worse still, if you bought plant food from the cash shop, you could accelerate that and get dyes faster. I thought it was horribly greedy.
People complained on launch that dyes weren’t account bound but the system we got on launch was far more generous than the system we had in beta.
What the hell?!
why they have removed all of that things?
I remember the dye seeds in Beta and the NPC. Also the forum outrage when it was announced that the dyes would be character bound and not account bound as the early statements said they would be (Ms Cox got a lot of forum hate for that decision).
I miss the full screen login interface with the large animated GW logo

It was amazing.
Unlucky since launch, RNG isn’t random

As a GW2 player since beta, this video was increadibly interesting. I remember back on beta event number one when that full screen login interface was first released I would sit there just listening to the music over and over again.
I miss beta.
I actually like the game better back then. T.T
Thank you for posting this. Nostalgia was wonderful.
That video baffles me. I never played the betas, but I had limited knowledge of them (dye seeds, energy bar). I never realized so many good features were scrapped. I would love more than anything to be able to allocate stat points, or customize my pets’ skills.
Is it wrong that I would rather buy the game as shown in that video than GW2 today?

I have to admit that making universal mana that share between sprint and skills will make this a different game
You’d be surprised how much as changed from then to now. Even within the last year. It would nice to see dye drops return. And certain core quests. And those traiting abilities for your ranger pet. And champs to the low-level zones. And . . . well . . . you get the idea.
This honestly made me sad. Alot of those features would have added so much to the game, go back and look at the older trailers all of the cities look 10 times cooler and were places I actually wanted to explore. Half the cities we have know just seem gutted and thrown together.

I only wish we had the option to ‘Log In as (choose option from drop-down menu)’ as shown and available back then.
Just like in Guild Wars.
Sigh.
Well… in my opinion most changes seems to have been done with a good reason and in the end a good sign that they listen to their playerbase… I guess.
But why did they scrap all the Lore? I mean the lorebook feature looks awesome and that there where lore about the place you go to at the loading screen is rather wonderfull. I do like lore but when they put in Lore in a single dialog box here and there makes me boored and I tend to skip them becouse it’s too much of a read for me. But having the lore at loading screens or as a rewievable content makes it so I will read it sooner or later.

I really do miss the Beta Login screen. I’ll never get used to the stupid, ugly launcher they’ve been using since release.
