I just finished the Arrah Story for the 2nd time. It was 0 fun, worst experience I’ve ever had in any game.
First time I did it with my main a few weeks ago and it was hard and crazy then, but now the changes have made it plain stupid.
The mission is too long, Total confusion at the end, undead numbers were insane, NPC’s were useless, one hit and they were all dead.
Reviving in combat is pointless in this game most times (unless u want to die as well) as the enemy has been made to target you when reviving, but in this mission it was impossible. Certain NPC.s had to be kept alive, while hordes and hordes came to attack them specifically and the battles went on and on ad nauseum. 1 player even fell asleep.
For a solo player (which I often am due to my time zone), normal mobs are too strong imo, especially in Orr, but in this mission each foe was like a mini boss (there was tons of those among them as well), taking too long to kill them and turning the mission from being fun to tedious grind. I get this feeling generally in the game, but especially in Orr, due to not only Risens’ strength, ridiculous speeds and debilitating skills that should only be reserved for bosses, but their large numbers and extremely fast respwans. Rest of the game isn’t immune to this but Orr it simply ridiculous.
Every time I’m there, I feel like I’m stuck in some B-rated horror movie where endless zombies chase you relentlessly for a pound of flesh. I can never stop to look at my map or admire the scenery in Orr without being mobbed by this trash and getting around the place is sheer nightmare. The terrain is designed for maximum frustration, not enjoyment, by making you go miles and miles around and have to kill 100’s of these Risen just to get to a spot a few meters directly ahead. Even in outposts, you cannot find safety. Where ever you go, every few steps, another ding for DE blocking your way and I’ve sometimes screamed in frustration for it to go away and leave me alone for just a few minutes. There are too many events and way too many risen, that often go invulnerable or respawn before they even hit the ground after killing them. And so in Arrah, sad to say, same ol, same ol. I hated it and will never play it again.
All this, is a huge disappointment for me. I was a Hard Core gw1 player, where I got 50/50 in my HoM, not a small task I assure you. It may be all for nothing though, as some bug is still preventing me from getting my HoM rewards 2 months after the head start and Anet’s done nothing so far to address it. But I digress. What I’m trying to say, it took me years to get bored with gw1. And having waited so long for gw2, I find 2 months into the game, I’m already sick of it.
Don’t get me wrong, there are many amazing things in this game, the maps alone are incredible, I can’t even imagine how much work must have gone into them. I love the free combat style as well, but it’s not enough. Not to keep me playing as much as I played gw1, at least not the state the game is in at the moment.
There’s is a good epic storyline missing in this game. Personal story is ok, but it should be a side story, not the epic one in such a big game. I also find majority of elite skills are pretty lame. There are only a few good ones across my chars and I have 5 of them covering most profs. There’s also not enough facilities, like banks and crafting stations in the world, there should be 1 of those in each map imo.
I thought I’d have fun doing 100% world exp, it started off that way but soon became a pain. Some of the vistas are ridiculously hard, with that crazy camera angle that locks up through your character whenever there’s something overhead and you can’t see where you supposed to go. Despite the difficulties, I persevered and got it, but I’ll not be doing that again either.
I’m not a big game hopper and I have placed my faith in gw2, but what’s left for me in this game? Not much. Some of the things I’d like to do, is craft my own Leg Weap, but they’ve been made almost impossible to achieve, unless you spend tons of RL money on it or grind, grind.
So am I having fun? Not really. I so wanted to love this game, but in all honesty, it leaves me feeling empty somehow and with a sickly thought, if I have to kill another Risen again, I will surely throw up.
Perhaps if some adjustments were made to those things mentioned above I may find myself enjoying the game more. I do understand the game is new and is being tweaked continually and this is why I’ve stuck with it this far, but the way things are, I’m losing interest real fast.

I’m going to save you the trouble. Although I agree that the game’s too difficult and unfun, people are going to either tell you to “dodge better”, to kite, or to zerg. Or they could just tell you to quit because they love their hardcore game. Dying isn’t fun. Failure isn’t fun. A boss that can spam an attack (i.e. uses it every second) that has a 100% knock down rate (i.e. an interrupt that always hits and keeps you from using skills for two seconds) isn’t fun. A boss that instantly creates a fire field that takes out a third of your chunk every half second, all while throwing axes at you from a distance with hitscan properties (i.e. can’t be dodged) is too difficult to fight considering how few people actually do events anymore. But people will tell you to quit the game and play “hello kitty online” or something because you’re not as good as them (i.e. they’re lucky enough to have better computers)

This game is turning elitist real fast.

While I never felt the mobs were too difficult individually, the density of Orr is pretty ridiculous. It becomes a real annoyance when 50-75% of the WP’s are contested and I can’t hoof it anywhere quick because the enemies are stacked 10 feet from one another.

Of course, perhaps I should have clarified it, 1 on 1 is not the problem but how often do you really fight 1 on 1? Its rare, especially in Orr. I find often even when you engage 1 enemy another 1 or 2 will literally pop out of the ground to mob you.

Try it with a ranger when your pet is running around, rolling up a risen Katamari for you to deal with.
