My guildmates and I were amusing ourselves last night by trying to envision an app for GW2 similar to Pokemon Go, and I thought I’d share.

How would it work? Could the complexity of an MMO world be fashioned into a smartphone app that players could carry everywhere? Could you enliven an otherwise dull stay in a doctor’s waiting room by finding a nearby Priory scholar who will give you a quick education on the secret history Kryta’s bandits?

Maybe there’s a way to bring gathering into the picture, and encourage players to get more heavily into growing their own food. Before you laugh at me, try a fresh tomato from someone’s garden. It definitely has its benefits.

Open world events? That would be tricky. Most people relaxing on a beach will not take kindly to someone splashing out of the water and shouting “There’s something in the water….HELP!” Followed by a couple of hundred players converging on the beach and shouting about turrets and “south boats”. Nor will the authorities permit folks to block off town squares in order to “retake Tarir”. It’s funny to think about, though.

Anyway, something to have fun with while waiting for today’s patch. Don’t try to glide at home, though.

It also came into my mind that GW2 does better with cancelling GW2 and bring us GUILD WARS GO. Pokemon Go already turned humanity into smartphone zombies. Seeing your life through your eyes instead of a small screen? Man are you from yesterday? Before Pokemon Go i could enjoy the silence of our local botanic garden and peacefully close my eyes. Now i stay home. Angry about the smartphone zombies making this place a headquarter for their beloved pixelhunt.

I know this threat should be fluffy funny. But is it really?

I think what you’ve described is not GW-GO but some fun ideas for flash mobs. It’d be great if the sort of people that gave us jedi standoffs in major cities, mass greek line dances in city streets, etc did something GW2-ish

GW Go would…

• Not run on an iPhone.
• Have hour long events.
• Drain your phone battery in half an hour.
• Erase your reward if you lose connection to the server during an event.
• Have escort events that go through traffic.
• Drop world boss rewards onto private property.
• Taste like chicken.

Of course the geek in me had to wonder why water resistant cells were suddenly so common.
