I have been a loyal Guild Wars player/ Fan for years. I have even brought many friends into the world of Guild Wars (1 and 2). But I have to say, Guild Wars 2 has such high potential yet has very little to none progression.
PVE: -The ever changing PvE is exciting and brings a new aspect into video games. The environment is very interactive with activities and is very well detailed.
-They lack more do-able large scale PvE. With introduction of the Worms and Marionette this is very fresh and new, but I am talking more along the lines of raiding with your friends in groups larger than 5 and without complete strangers to have to rely on and pray they do the objective right. Groups of 10-50 dungeons (or raids) are what normal PVE players crave and love in video games. Make these dungeons challenging (yet due-able, i mean come on that worm is just stupid).
-MORE AREAS! Come on we are all thinking it! At least give us assurance their will be some new areas such as Cantha and Elonia so as to give us excitement for game progression. These require a lot of work and I know this would take a while to do but this will make story lines less flat and more adventurous. Also would bring in new revenue due to people buying the expansion, buying gems for new styles of cloths to match new surroundings, and new items to farm/buy with gems/interchange in gem to gold market.
WVW: -I can’t much complain about this, it is well structured and they put a lot of time and effort into this aspect of the game. I believe this is a new and exciting factor of the game that is keeping people playing.
PVP:- This is the most disappointing aspect of the game for me. As a huge PvP’er I was extremely disappointed by their structured PvP. Guild Wars (1) had extremely neat and effective PvP with a huge variety! RA (Random Arena), TA (Team Arena), HA (Hero’s Ascent) are all great PvP that don’t require much programming yet are extremely effective. Lastly, GVG!!!! GvG is what makes GW, GW! I know many people who have quit GW2 because they lack GvG (and other pvp). GvG is where you can show people my guild is great and is a great way to keep people attached to the game because it allows them to play competitively with their friends. Also a new style of playing Base vs Base is a huge thing many PvP’ers or gamers in general like.
-FA and JQ. These game mode brought PvE into PvP and made it very interesting because you can choose either to defend or be offensive on FA! JQ was interesting because people could use unorthodox builds (such as bomb necros (suicide necros) and capture shrines) or build for many different tasks (such as defensive, assassin, tank, nuke, aoe, etc.)
-In general, the structured PvP is EXTREMELY flat with only one game mode to play and many people do not like domination (As you can see AB/Alliance Battles in GW (1) died out because people grew old of domination type PvP).

TLDR: Although I have been a faithful GW fan for a long time and even recruited friends to play, I am having a hard time even recommending this to friends and even keep playing due to high potential, very little to none progression.
Reply with what you thing GW should to do progress their game to the next level above other games. OR you can tell me what your opinion on my opinions are. Thanks.

I totally disagree. MANY of us are here because this game does not have instanced raid content that you get walled in to at end game. After years of that I am done w/ it and I would not be sad if I never encountered it again.

Their PvE content tugs at the strings of what MMO’s should be about: joining together with large groups and defeating a challenge in the WORLD. Entire servers rejoice when they down Mari or Wurm.

Raid instances go against this philosophy because they just don’t allow for things like that to happen. They are insular experiences for a small group of people and divides servers up into little cliques. I don’t think that’s what this game has ever wanted to encourage. From level 1 you are pushed to engage with your entire server, not just your 24 other guild mates. I love it.

Also, when you start getting in to the gated end game raiding content you naturally get in to the power creep gear treadmill. Yet again something this game has tried to distance itself from, and yet again something that has attracted many of us to the game.

As a veteran raider from Burning Crusade and Wrath of the Lich King in WoW I can say without a doubt in my mind that I would never, ever want to go through that again. It would change Guild Wars 2 fundamentally and turn it into something it was never supposed to be. That ship sailed for me a long time ago.

More open world content that unites the server in a big way, not insular raid dungeons that lead to pathetic elitism.

I don’t disagree with your post entirely though, they do need more content, but they are always in development. It’s not fair to say they aren’t releasing new things. Who knows what this year holds for Guild Wars 2. The game is not even 2 years old yet.

I agree with you Milkduds, I don’t disagree that they should stop making World Boss stuff, because it is very revolutionary. But you have to admit that the blatant disregard of structured PvP is very unsettling. I think that their “Keep the players in the dark” approach when it comes to content is a double edged sword. It keeps the current players on the edge of their seat and very excited when new things come out. BUT! it also severely hinders their new ability to make more players and keep some players playing due to the fact that they don’t know what progression this game is doing and if their is any new progression happening at all. More along the lines of worrying if this game will only make it to 2 years old due to the fact that they don’t suit the needs of PvP’ers and New player’s attention. (No offence but i highly doubt they was a single new player gained from a Mari and Worm boss added to world interaction).

This is one of those, I don’t care what the guy says, I just wish I had his account name moments. But, yeah, great potential, easily one of the best games I played on release and one that began going downhill fast with the Lost Souls (sic) update. And, yeah, of course open world raiding does not belong in the open world. With any experience in games or gaming that would be obvious.

Raine, I am just posting a strong opinion, if i could do it anonymous i would. I don;t care if people know me because my IGN isnt even close to my account name. I just want to draw attention to things that could greatly increase their effectiveness and possibly aim them towards improving pvp. So that I can once again tell friends how great GW “is” instead of “was”

Yes, its important that we police the forums and make sure things are not “spelt” wrong. But first – Remember to load up on fibres before you tackle this new day! I suggest a wholesome slice of wheat spelt bread!

Delete the adjectives and you’ll have the facts.

Agreed.
Pvp needs more game-modes, the same one over and over again gets old fast.
>.<Also getting teamed up against players with a rank two times higher than mine sucks.

MMO’s move and expand slowly.

GW1 was pretty lackluster at launch, even quite a while after that. Only with time and new campaigns did the game improve and I think the same will happen to GW2.
Although, they should probably give us more/clearer insight into what new features they are working on.

Since I don’t play pvp, I can’t say to agree or disagree on it.
PvE I can disagree on expanding to go to other lands Cantha and Elonia, I would prefer the expansion to keep focus on Kryta in reaching the maguma waste, far shiverpeaks woodland cascades, blood legion homelands, blazeridge mountains, and dildrimor front. They do need to make more clothing but I think more cultural clothing styles rather than just have starter ones and that is it….

Also, though we appreciate the obvious love birds of Marjory and Kasmeer and I am glad of lesbian is influence in the game, give us some g*d d@%n gay and straight couples in this game….seriously, I wanna see Rytlock making Logan his bed b$^%c and I wanna see some Braham and Rox makeouts in a hot sunset moment. <333333

The original promised features for Guild Wars Not to mention “Observer mode” which was impressive in itself.

I guess it’s all a matter of perspective, often times the new campaigns DUMPED on pvp balance as hard as humanly possible.

although I dont like sPvP at all,
I think that a game that pretend to be an eSport, don’t have “capture the flag” map is shameful.
there are seven PVP maps and all of them have the same description:

Two teams are matched up against each other. The objective is to be the first team to reach 500 points. Points are awarded through holding capture points and kills. There are 3 capture points on the map, and when captured, each location grants one point every two seconds. Each player kill grants five points. If neither team reaches 500 points, the team with the most points will be declared the winner after the 15 minute time limit.

from wiki

even wow had more battleground diversity.

also, how hard is to take an already made map and make it a 50×50 GVG arena?

I have lots to say about how disappointed i am in endgame PVE. it is a matter of a whole new thread.
