Now I have to download the whole thing and install it + patches. I guess I’m not playing tonight =/

Games do not uninstall themselves. You sure you don’t have an overly attached spouse? A tech-savey mom?

No spouse and I live alone. I had an issue with my AVR but that was it. Once I got that thing fixed and turned the computer back on, no more GW2 =(. I might have to read a book or something instead. Heaven forbid.

GW2 isn’t installed like usual programs. All you need is Gw2.exe and Gw2.dat in the same location. You either moved or deleted Gw2.exe or Gw2.dat, or on the rare occurance Gw2.dat can become corrupted. In cases where Gw2.dat becomes corrupted, you can attempt to repair it (Gw2.exe -repair), which in most cases is faster than starting from scratch.

When starting from scratch, all you need is Gw2.exe, which will download the full game including all patches.

Sounds to me like the OS reverted to a previous state or a date when the game was not installed. Do you have any sort of backup system that when it detects some triggering aspect it reverts to a saved backup? Or some sort of cloud backup service? that might have loaded the backup and it not your regular stuff… any other changes noticed? or is it in safe mode?

The repair might work. I’d try that in case somethen went a lil off. I mean, it could be worse…

I’d say play with a bit. Same thing happened to me today and I solved it by searching for another Gw2 Setup program on my hard drive and it seemed to work. Hope this helps.

To the OP. Knowing a bit bout how uninstallers work and bout computer software. I don’t think that uninstalling GW2 came from a bug in the program itself. It is likely an anomoly in windows (in combination with a different program like indeed a AV/firewall program).

Cause, I have to admit that I’m kinda addicted to this game, I make a backup off my gw2 folder once every 3 months. This way I don’t have to re-download a lot.

Are you aware this thread is a year old?

My personal guess is that this situation is fixed and he no longer needs help. Even if he has a slow connection, after a year it’s surely downloaded by now.

Same thing just happened to be, i havent placed in about 2 months though, since the new HUGE update. I went to play and it was downloading. Than AVG says i have a trojan, or some sort of virus. So i accept and let it get rid of it. Than i go to open my Guildwars shortcut and it says its invalid. It isnt on my desktop anymore and i have to reinstall it all over again. Pretty upset as i dont get a lot of free time to play.

OMG dude, the same thing happened to me with Garry’s Mod on Steam. That’s crazy maan…

Thanks so much, whoever posted that saved me hours of patching and downloading it just wasn’t in the right folder. I had the same issue too, it was just not in the right folder.

I am curious: In a case like this would using the streaming client not allow this player to play while the client is loading, or is that only for patch updates?

Given the op was 2 years ago, there was no streaming client at the time.

AVG is terrible. I’m pretty sure AVG itself is a trojan.
