GW2 and unique classes
Where did you get the idea “new unique class” is something even being considered, much less needed? No comments from Anet (that I’m aware of) have ever indicated new classes or races were something even being considered).
I can pretty much GUARANTEE, the GW1 secondary class is NOT happening in this game. That type of hybrid skill system would need to be built in to the game from the start (and GW2 was intentionally built to have more restrictive and controllable skill set than GW1….because they could never balance it properly).
Fate is just the weight of circumstances
That’s the way that lady luck dances
“unique” classes… they are all the same with differet FX color (zerk+melee)
The main thing this game needs is new classes
A new profession for GW2 is certainly no magic bullet; it would just be a flash in the pan, knee jerk content infusion that would utterly fail to address larger flaws in the game.

To continue off this:
It would also bring less balance to the table, impress less people, lose it’s novelty after a week, and end up being underwhelming or overpowered. Additionally, it’ll be flashier than a Guardian fighting Lupicus, making boss fights already hard enough to pay attention to animations, while showing that the Anet teams are working on things that are unimportant at this iteration of the game.

Concern: 350 people! And all they’ve come up with are story updates people outside the game can’t connect with? Where are the big new features? Is there really no expansion planned?
Colin JohandsomemanWe have a couple of really big Guild Wars projects cooking in the background…
Some of our players believe that because we are doing this Living World seasons, and these features or these big feature-builds, that it means that the features you would traditionally get in an expansion, or the content you would traditionally get in an expansion, is not something that will get added to Guild Wars 2. And that is not true at all.
Not only are we doing those things, new features and content you would traditionally get from a boxed expansion are also things that will be added to Guild Wars 2.
The thing that we haven’t decided yet is what form that type of content will take. Is it right for Guild Wars 2 for that kind of boxed expansion? Is it right for that to be something we add, live, through storylines in the game? Is that something we want to sell through our in-game store? There are a lot of different options available to us.
… but we absolutely are going to do sweeping new features that you would traditionally only get in expansions – large regions, content and progression additions to your characters in the form of growth and professions and races. Those are all things that you will see in the lifespan of Guild Wars 2.
Lifespan of an MMO is… questionable as to what it means. Ultima Online is nearing it’s 17th birthday.
Colin worded his answer very, very carefully. Additionally, his words HINT at playable races, but they don’t actually state that. Progressions to your characters in the form of races can also mean that you and your characters will have access to more races stories (see: Zephyrites, Tengu, Jotun, Sylvari) and zones.
We’ve been getting new large additions to our map, such as Dry Tops and the opening of Maguuma Wilds.
Profession Growth has already occurred, with the addition of new traits, healing skills, and “healthy” trait balancing. Yes, that’s all growth.
I’m sorry, but he worded it very, very ambiguously. I work in a tech startup and the CEO loves to pull that stuff off. I’m not sure if he does it intentionally or not, but he ends up saying that we will have this feature and that feature, not that we do have it. It makes for a very… interesting dialogue when I have to tell my boss that I am physically incapable of doing something that the CEO said we could do… because we could do it… in the future when it gets implemented.
I wish the secondary classes from GW1 would return. I would totally rock a Thief/Eng. No word yet on player housing or guild halls either. I know the living story is GW2’s crowning achievement, but this game could really benefit from a paid expansion. New races, professions, guild halls, level 90 and more PvP opportunities. I believe GW2 is lacking in love for GUILDS. Personally, I think guild owned airships would be an awesome addition.
