GW2 devs trying to get people banned?
Actually using macros isn’t against the TOS. As long as it’s one keystroke per macro.
In other words you could make a macro to repeatedly hit F and that wouldn’t be against the TOS.
Did you miss this recent thread? It’s been covered.

It’s not the macros itself. It’s the ability to play without being behind the keyboard that is an absolute no-no…

“The Guild Wars 2 Gaming Keyboard features … raised macro keys”
It has been stated here many times that using macros is against the TOS.
Stop making stuff up. Saying macros is against the TOS is a huge blanket statement and akin to saying “Talking to other players will get you banned”

I think you’ll find a macro is a series of events, or more that one keystroke, any series of keystrokes that are repeated over and over.
You could make a macro to repeatedly hit “f”, in fact I repeatly hit the “f” key manually to make sure I pick up all the loot.
But a macro in it’s true meaning I believe would be against the TOS.

No… a macro is simply trading one set of inputs for another, this includes remapping keys:
• A macro to click mouse one when you press a key
• A macro to press a key when you click mouse one
Obviously this limits their use in the game, as there are already options for key remapping, so, to be safe, I wouldn’t even bother using them.
Remapping a key isn’t against the TOS. Using an actual macro is. To define a remapped key as a macro is a little ludicrous.
Their ridiculous explanation about macros does little to justify them promoting a keyboard with macro capability.
IMO a perfectly reasonable macro would be to have a key that casts a skill, as well as a message in party chat that says said skill is being casted
e.g.
I may use guardian staff 4 and in party chat
“Casting Empowered Might”

It might sound reasonable, but you are doing multiple actions with one stroke, so against ToS..

I’m pretty sure that a macro that repeats F or any other key is against TOS as well. It would fall under automating the game.

Yes, I’m aware of that, but I would wager there are ‘reasonable’ grounds that would permit such a macro. For one, it doesn’t provide a technical advantage. Chat is purely communicative.
There is a difference between a macro that uses 2 key strokes (or 2 skills) for 1 key, versus a dozen key strokes (11 of them from typing).
That being said, it does strike me as interesting and I would probably ask CS if they wouldn’t mind that.

The official stance on macros (linked here several times) is quite hard to understand. They literaly say you cannot do a macro that clicks several times the same key to open a bag. So, we are to understand the only allowed is 1 macro = 1 key hit. Problem is this is not a macro, this is a key binding.
Now promoting a GW2 keyboard which is advertised as easy to use macro’s on just adds to the confusion.

Agree, it doesn’t have any direct added value, although you are letting your party members know which skill you used (so they know it’s on CD or so, for instance)..
And I guess that CS will just hide behind their ToS and show you the “one click, one action” paragraph as well..

If it’s one keystroke per macro, there’s quite literally no point in a “macro” key on the keyboard. The only purpose for a key like that is to do more than one thing with one keystroke.

By that opinion my 18 G keys on my G510 are completely useless for GW2…why do I even bother to use them?

The point of that is to use combinations like “Ctrl + T” and “Shift +T” on one keystroke.

One action per keystroke is a keybinding, not a macro. ‘Macro’ means more than one action per keystroke.
