GW2 has become a FoTM Match Making Lobby
Well… you can always try to leave Lion’s Arch. There are still plenty to do out in the wilds and there are still people running around there.

I haven’t touched Fractals yet and have been happily playing 2-3 hours a day. I did to be fair re-roll my 80 Exotic Guardian the week before (for aesthetic reasons).
But have been having a blast doing the last order story missions and exploring all the zones I haven’t really touched. Yesterday I spent my entire evening running around Kessex Hills with a group of other players doing events, day before I ran around in WvWvW (at level 31, with no “gear” hampering my enjoyment).
If you use it as a FOTM lobby that’s your choice, I’m still out in the world at large enjoying myself.
It’s getting back to it’s GW1 roots
This was very typical sight in WoW before they implemented LFDungeon matchmaking tool. Expect more of this since this is the direction GW2 is going.
I noticed too, either map chat is dead, or people are spamming FoTM party search.
Haven’t given up the game tho, i enjoy alot leveling my new toons, but i am kinda worried, world seems dead, no one talks, i quess everyone is in 500 member guilds doing the talking.
Most group events are left undone since there is no one around.
the game is very big, and i dont know if i agree with the way they disconnected it for all different type of players;
-explorers/story pve
-pvp
-wvw
-dungeon grinders
and yeah, i myself and “explorer” (casual mind you) would much prefer to finish my 8 dungeon story mode.
but right now its nigh impossible.. so i run a fractal here and there.
honestly, i just dont like the idea of fractals (not talking about gameplay here), i dont like how they just dont fit in the story/world.
its totally Diablo 3 rerun farm&grind.
but i think arenanet knew that….
if you talk to the consortium; theyll tell you that tyrian will “rethink how the spend their time” and that they are there for “profit”.
and then in dyssa labs, asuran as stormtroopers and dyssa telling you how bad these fractals are, and why you have to grind them.
fractals are a hugely negative blow to this game.
and i feel sad that arenanet couldnt find a better solution to keep players playing.
i still like the game, and please, make the dungeon story mode soloable because nobody does them anymore (its near impossible to find 5 people at once…).
Fractals are the new FOTM. They will lose their shine once people hit the gear gate so people will either not bother and do something else or not play until more content comes out.

That’s not a solution.
You would think that with a dungeon that has multiple tiered difficulty levels that there would be a lobby similar to the SPVP lobby where people can create games and others can join. But no, apparently that doesn’t make sense and spamming map chat in LA makes much more sense from a design standpoint.

This i agree, near impossible to get storymode going, everyone wants to do fotm or exp modes.

Here I agree with you. This would be a two fold solution. It would remove the vast majority of the spam from LA whilst at the same time creating a persistent method of looking for a group with cross-server support, as well as removing a fair chunk of the complaints about difficulties in finding groups for the lower/higher tiers of FoTM.
Whilst I don’t particularly want a Dungeon Finder, in the case of FoTM it actually makes logical and lore friendly sense to have a “lobby” or “hub” in the mists.

Spamming map chat brings social aspect, at least that’s what I heard.

Not me.. I routinely hit story modes on my mesmer.. until they nerfed her to the ground AND broke their promise to me and everyone else introducing a system that rewards people for excluding others in the form of fractals. The holiday schedule doesn’t help either.
Now I log on much less frequently, and IF I even take the game seriously again I will be leveling a dual dagger ele. If the mesmer was a guide for time, it will be another 2 months before I’m viable to help ANYONE in their story modes.

It certainly brings out the social spectrum of abusive, naive and immature players from the community. “LFG FoTM, lvl 1, level 80, must have full exotic, link in chat in 30secs or kick”.
I haven’t been back to LA since the patch, and don’t have any intention to run FotM… ever.
Hoping that ascended will in fact be released via wvw / karma., and are reasonable to obtain.

Its even worse, wvw lacks players as well, u cant do explorers either since most players grind fractals all day, hell u cant do anything that needs a group! Didnt see arah open on my server since the update, in fact orr has become a truly dead map -.-

Considering that the only entrance to the dungeon is via LA, I think LA is the dungeon lobby. And its no different to before fractals when people would spam map chat for other dungeons.

It’s no accident that it’s called FotM.
I’m kind of in the same boat as the OP – I’ve still more dungeons to do, and much of the dungeon population has moved onto Fractals. There’s still some “LF dungeon X or Fractal Y”, but not really enough.
Of course, the dungeon I’m interested in most having one of it’s paths bugged to be uncompletable doesn’t help either.

Man I hope this happens soon. Been wanting one since day one.
