GW2 is Alt-unfriendly now.
Going through the kittenified newbie zones will be a chore now.

Apparently that’s all new players can handle >.>
They made it a lot more like the Chinese version I’ve noticed.
they wan to make it inline with the chinese version =(

I’m curious how much easier it is to get to level 15 now? There’s something about it in the patch notes.
Please, oh please, let the EQN be good enough to switch games…

I have 3 characters just created. Looking forward to leveling them. Still have characters spread around the map. Spooon hunt is on.
so levelling is really boring now. Skill 7 used to unlock at level 5 and now not until 13? That’s a big difference.
I don’t mind systems to teach newbies.
But trying to spread out the game’s already meager amount of ‘character progression’ all the way to level 80 with the changed rate of ability unlocks and trait unlocks is going to make playing alts increasingly boring for ME.
There has to be a better way of doing this. There has to be. There has to be a way of teaching new players without hamstringing your veterans to the point of being bored to tears by the leveling process.
I really abhor using the /level scrolls….but this development may overcome that fact. I just want to level my alts and play and progress by playing the game.
I don’t want arbitrary barriers or gates or slews of level caps, I just want to log in and have fun…not an agenda.
I don’t want to play an agenda.
They should make the level 20 scrolls combinable. Like in the mystic forge, say four level 20 scrolls make a level 40, etc etc.
Just so those of us with a ton of those scrolls and no desire to go through a process that some may find tedious to be able to skip through a lot of that fast. As it was , I had 60 +1 level tomes, so I was able to level a character to 80 in a few minutes, but those +1 level tomes are much harder to come by.
I was QQing about the trait system before but this is next level bad… I suggest all pre-patch vets hug any new player they come across…
All this unrest is making me embarrassed by how often I forget to use my elites and/or all my utility skills when leveling alts. :P
This is supposed to make things easier for new players.
HOW?
I’m gonna level an alt. Wish my and my remaining shreds of sanity good luck!
Well, this combined with the trait changes means that I won’t be making an alt any time soon. Sure, the game will be more appealing to hyper-casuals now (maybe?), but no gamer is going to take it seriously now.

That’s the part that doesn’t make any sense to me though.
A casual player wants to log on and do stuff and progress…the new progression map completely destroys that dynamic. The carrot becomes ever more elusive, thus the truly “casual” gamer will have less of a reason to stick with GW2.
Farm PvP like never before, level by level, fill your bank of levels until you will bring your alts to 80 by clicking! And do that fast, before they realize this huge flop they made and will try to fix it by nerfing the Tomes of Knowledge to force veterans to return to the left-empty lower meaningless areas.

It is kind of puzzling. They seem to think that it’s more fun to have progress spread out over a longer period of time. Now, I can understand this if they speed up the leveling process, like, A LOT. Not just in starter zones, but all over the world. THEN I might understand it. I mean, if it takes you the same time to level to lv 7 in the old version than to level 15 now (taking weapon swap as an example) it’s justified. But if not, it’s pointless.
Also, a tangent on leveling: The fact that leveling feels like a chore is not because we don’t gain rewards when we gain a level. It’s a chore because leveling itself is a chore. I would much prefer the GW1 model where it took you a relatively short time to reach max level, but then the whole rest of the game was endgame. Now, you slodge towards 80 with everything after level 30 feeling more or less the same. 30 would’ve been a fine cap – you get an elite skill, have some trait points, all skill slots and weapon skills – and you had plenty of time to learn to use them.
But I guess the thought process that “leveling = progress” is the one MMO taboo even ANet can’t or won’t break free out of.
Isn’t this going to cut WvW participation off at the knees?
Meaning: the influx and involvement of newer players?

Thankgoodness I had one in my bank. I had certain unlocks pop up retrospectively having used the scroll to jump to lvl 20. This kinda peeved me though… it seems new players wont be able to join a guild and benefit from the experience of other more experienced players until they are level 16.

Each ’’heart’’ quest gives you 50% of your EXP bar
I followed the pointer ontop on the minimap and got to 6 lvl in 10 min :P
Would be interesting to see if exp progression now means more exp is required for each successive level.

So far it doesn’t look like it.

“downed skill 2 unlocked”… oh dear god…

Thats just what I thought….
Never wanted to level an alt, well took a break from the game for about a game, but the more I read about the feature patch the less it makes me want returning.
So for all new players I can just say s*** to be you.
OP have you actually tried it? I’m leveling a character right now, as we speak. I’m already level 8. The leveling up to level 15 is so fast, it’s actually easier for alts.
Mesmer will have a fun time leveling.

Yes, i have tried it, and the speed still doesn’t change the fact that you are locked out of skills. Engineers will still have to wait for unlocking their kits at lvl 13, and professions that use sigils.
I’ve got so many Scrolls of Experience that I’ll never need to have a character under L20 again o.O

This is bad for multiple reasons if I’m reading it right. If you are already part of a guild, you can’t talk to your friends while leveling an alt. If you are in a 100% rep. guild, this could cause a lot of confusion since you can’t represent them. And if you are part of a guild with buffs, you won’t get the experience buffs with them.
kitten .
so much for my mesmer…
I can’t believe they didn’t grandfather in characters that were created before the change…
lol I logged onto one of my lowbies, saw that half my skills were gone, said “nope”, and just went straight to my 80s.
Ah well, luckily I have a couple 80s already and now I won’t end up spending any more money on my low levels
The new unlock system is just dumb in general. Some things are fine, but having to wait to unlock downed state and weapon skills? I can even manage without utility skills, but really Anet? Who thought this was a good idea? Did you even try playing like this? Whoever suggested this should be fired.
This whole system seems designed for people who can’t cope with skills.
It’s becoming more and more like a korean grinder every day.
These changes make zero sense for the Western market.
It’s not as much alt unfriendly as it is keyfarmer unfriendly.
All current players should have a lot of lv 20 scrolls in the bank, making any new alt toon easy to level. You’d be at skill slot 7 as soon as you have access to a bank.
I’m just waiting for someone to dig up the red quote that said, we wont be doing the things the chinese version has done…..
It’s getting really really sad that it’s clear NCSoft has complete control and Anet has virtually 0.

I’m not sure what you’re talking about here. I was repping my guild the entire time I was playing, on a level 2 character.

Didn’t they mean premium vip type accounts for that? I’ve been thinking about this a bit over the last week or so and I’d be interested to see a quote again.

I have to agree with you on NCSoft’s control of GW2. In GW it was apparent that A-Net had complete control over the game. Something tells me this may be why so many of the GW devs left A-Net and we have basically a completely new dev team for GW2.
Created a wiki page with all unlocks from lvl2 to 80.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Level_rewards
While this may feel slower for alts of experienced players, I feel that the unlocks and the tooltips that go with them are very helpful to learn the game for new players.

It was in relation to the VIP system, which is by the way still in our files and apparently we will be getting more of the VIP system features as they are sitting there in waiting.

Hmmm. Features I can handle but VIP accounts is too late for this game now (in my opinion). I’d imagine Anet know this too but people further up the food chain…? I hope it doesn’t come to that.

a lot faster. going through the human starting zone, but the time i leave the bandit caves, im already level 5, nearing 6. Course this depends a bit if events happen near the hearts, but hearts give about 40 – 50% of a level now.
Spam weapon 1 skill in the opening sequence. Spam 1 and 2 until lvl 4? Are you KIDDING me???
Boooooring. I’m going to have to give other games a look.
Edit: Oh, and by the way. I made a new ranger. No way to control the pet. None. He just did whatever he wanted, and there was nothing I could do to call him back or tell him to attack.
Nuh uh. No way. That is completely unacceptable.
I’m getting the same creeping feeling that I got from the Star Wars NGE.

That is is quite an assumption…
took me 70 minutes to level from 2 to 10. dont’ sound like a big deal.
I actually like it better this way. That being said I have a bunch of lvl20 scrolls.
