GW2 is a paint by numbers experience
Hey there. How is the leveling like other MMOs?
Take the “top” 5 MMOs out there:
WoW
Rift
SWTOR
Tera
GW2
WoW: WoW’s leveling has been made so easy, they have reduced the amount of XP required so much. It is very linear. Quest hubs..grab 10 quests, go kill x grab y escort Z in a very “in your face fashion”.
Rift: Rift has one of the best leveling content I’ve seen. It has your traditional quest hubs as above, but the also rifts and invasions if you dont want to quest. The invasions can kill the quest NPCs(this happened to me a lot), so you have to stop them..and this happens a lot. They also allow you to queue for instant adventures which is non stop content, as well as downleveling recently. GW2 has basically all of this.
SWTOR: Terrible. Not even getting into it other than a dead, open world where you cannot venture off the road or risk pulling lots of mobs. Traditional questing, nothing to it.
Tera: the ultimate quest grind. Does not deviate from the kill X gather Y. The combat is the only thing that kept me going here.
Then you have GW2. Compare it to above. I think for a non-sub game, it exceeds all of these games.
How is it like leveling in other mmos? You go to an area, kill a set amount of mobs and get your reward. All they did was change the interface and make it so you don’t have to get a quest or turn it in. Otherwise it is the same stuff we’ve been doing for 15 years.
Why is that a problem? They wrote an article saying this is endgame. Yeah.
The lack of customization when compared to the 1st game is also very jarring. Character building is way too simple, this is a big part of the paint by numbers feel.
Even if it doesn’t have a sub that doesn’t mean much if nobody I know (including myself) wants to play it. It’s like an mmo for people who have never played an mmo before.
Anyone else get to “no progression” and stopped reading?
Not even bothering to explain myself any more.

Considering it’s one of the most common complaints about the game, you are probably alone here.
Just because you aren’t hand held doesn’t mean there’s no progression, sorry.
The progression is through the map and story.
I’m 55 two OP. I hit a massive wall at level 53. Nothing to look forward to but a couple passives.
Overnight WvW turned into a pointless gold sink. As far as the pve, Dragons Lance 2012.
Just because you aren’t and held doesn’t mean there’s no progression, sorry.

Exactly. It’s a rather bland, paint by numbers experience.
@OP Still, it is dfferent.
In other MMOs, you interface with an NPC exclamation mark. Get a quest, ignore the dialogue, go kill X, turn it in.
In GW2, you run into an area, its auto given to you. You can kill the centaurs, gather broken Pipe parts, pour water on burning bushes, talk to NPCs to boost their morale, or gather unexploded mortor shells. All in one quest. You are not simply killing Centaurs for the renowns, or whatever the mob is. You have a choice of doing 3 to 5 things to complete the quest. That is what sets it apart.
You cannot avoid the typical quest structure in any MMO completely. How else would you level? They masked it in such a way that you hardly notice it is there.
So with the choice of 5 things to do for a renown heart, you can still compare that to a mundane kill X gather Y quest from wow?
Just because you aren’t and held doesn’t mean there’s no progression, sorry.

So you want farmville: the MMO?

Nice edit. Before you edited this post said “what was your favorite mmo”.
Guild wars 1 (if you count that as an mmo).
Why does every special snowflake think his whine is just soooo important?
If you dont like the game, great! not every game is for every person.
but spare us the forum post whining and just go do something you do enjoy.
Easy peasy lemon squeezy…
Progression:
I hit 80 a week or two ago on my Thief. The world map was only 43% explored, with only about a quarter of Orr completed(the entire 70-80 zone). Also when I hit 80, I still had about 4 or 5 story quests to complete, which I finished up yesterday. I would say at 80, that Id want world completion, exotic set, grind out the other sets for cosmetics, and get the legendary dagger for my thief. Thats enough to keep me playing on ONE character for a few months without even touching WvW or sPVP. All the while not paying for a sub.
No, I didn’t.
Sorry.

Right back at you? If you don’t like people’s opinions why are you reading the discussion forum?
No, I didn’t.
Sorry.
Yes you did. Have a nice day liar.
No arguments left so you’re making things up?
Cool, I edited my other post because it had a spelling mistake.
I would not consider GW1 an MMO. Too instanced.
Regarding char customization screen: Agreed some races got the short end with this. But further down you are able to drag sliders to increase jaw width or eye angle. I dont think its a BAD char customization. And I will say that I spent a long time on my syvlari thief because of the patterns and skin glows.
To try and find some intelligent DISCUSSION on the game…youre whine is the samekitten other threads….just post in one of them or just go do somethink you like.
Edit there was no curse words in my post not sure why I got the kitten treatment lol

I haven’t seen intelligent discussion on this game since beta and for like 2 days when the forums were open.

Sorry I meant building a character through skills, not appearance. In GW1 you had hundreds of skills to choose from and you could be 2 classes. GW2 is insanely limited in this regard.
I will agree with you on that though, half the utilities are useless, but I’e already made a suggestion, being vague about what you don’t like isn’t helping anyone.

Neither is your trolling. You are now ignored.
keep fighting the good fight OP.

Bye mate.
keep fighting the good fight OP.
Eh. The game is for noobs and extremely casual players, I don’t think this is going to change.
Just giving a little feedback in the (slim) hope that it might.
This guy is just trolling -__-
