GW2: my feedback
The biggest problem imho is the complete absense of gameplay mechanics beyond combat/crafting. Social mechanics are almost nonexistant. Where is multiguild chat? Where is guild messageboard? Guild Halls? Guild-Oriented PvE? Player housing? Collections? I could go on and on about features that should have been included in GW2. “It’s coming eventually” is not an excuse. Other MMOs have these features, they’re a no-brainer. The combat system and DE system, while a step in the right direction, are not at all that revolutionary and don’t justify cutting out of features. The game feels very unfinished at the present state.

I don’t have money problems in this game and definitely not getting bored. 406 hours played and still going strong.
I feel that this game isn’t as exciting as Guild Wars 1 was.
Repair costs and waypoint travel fees are dragging down the gameplay experience for me personally. I mean we didn’t have that baloney in Guild Wars 1.
We could travel to any city for free and there were like 100 cities. Now we have 500 waypoints instead but they nickel and dime you to fast-travel. It’s just annoying.
GW1 isn’t an MMORPG, big difference.
I don’t even have 2 level 80s or a single legendary weapon. Maybe your goals aren’t properly aligned with the game’s mechanics?
GvG is the first big thing that is missing, once that is in then you can call it guild wars.. other was what “guild wars” are going on? Alliances existed in gw1 why not in gw2??? I understand the fees for traveling etc. its a gold sink otherwise you could just constantly accumulate gold.. they did just nerf the orchi nodes so fast travel might be less common. I still find i comical that they nerfed “farming” so now you cant constantly farm the events in cursed shore. This is just another thing to add to the ridiculousness of the game.. You want me to grind out 250+ t6 crafting mats but u want me to do it slowly.. its just dumb ( i can only assume this is a nerf to achieving a legendary) which is ridiculous and should be a whole new post.. but ill give is a shot since this is a reply.. 1000s of gold plus mats if a bit ridiculous for a skin imo.. that might be the actual reason that gw2 sucks right now.. the majority of players dont give a kitten what they look like they just wanna kill kitten.. I’ve never watched a single cutscene in the game. I have no desire to grind my kitten off to get a fancy looking weapon. Maybe im totally crazy and have a demented sense of enjoyment but this is how i feel.
Once again please do not reply to this post if you are happy with the state of the game and just want to tell me about exploration or some silly jumping puzzle nonsense. I want this to be a constructive post about the missing elements from the game
Not off topic since we’re talking about lack of compelling endgame content and other missing elements.
With regard to your beef with no GvG: I played GW1 very briefly, didn’t get into endgame/GvG content… but it stands to reason that if the original Guild Wars had GvG then its sequel would obviously feature it and even build upon it. Guilds can’t wage wars with each other here, BUT they could in the original… seems like false advertisement. From the looks of it, this should have been called Server Wars.
Now I know this game is supposed to be “different”, but world pvp is huge for me. The best experience I can have in an MMO is when I can come across someone leveling or gathering and jump his kitten.. Or be set upon by someone just like me, on the hunt; And even if I’m squarely defeated, it was exciting or fun on some level. So yeah, give me that.
If I want that kind of experience here, I’m stuck with WvW, which as we have seen is the opposite of fun. One can find short thrills in finding a lone invader on his way to a vista or skill point, but then a wave of players seemingly come out of nowhere during your scrap and send you to the other side of the map. Having to walk SO far after dying is a massive setback. It’s infuriating, NO ONE wants to bother with that. Every time I get defeated I just look around for allies to rez me and wait, frustrated and miserable—The run back is always dull an uneventful. In either case my brain turns to mush.
Obviously more waypoints should be added, the maps could be redesigned, and “Contested” Waypoints should become more accessible.
For suggestions to give this game some personality: Add more incentives to dungeons by introducing unique loot pools to bosses/chests. Give us some RNG to gamble with. WoW had a great “need/greed” system. Any player can save up enough tokens to get their standard cool spikey flame sword, but only the lucky or dedicated would get the 1% drop rate cool spirally flame sword.
Finding rare monsters that drop specific loot would also be welcome. My favorite example would be Notorious Monsters in Final Fantasy XI. Obviously a pipe dream at this point; Anet first has to take care of the biggest problem this game is facing: Merciless pillaging bots.
Going back to your beef with legendary requirements, I’m mostly with you. I think the flat gold costs are outrageous. These weapons have the same stats as a weapon I can make myself with mats farmed in a couple of hours. It’s a SKIN. I get it though, give us something to work towards… but with all my maps/puzzles completed and WvW sucking my life force, A weapon skin is not enough for me to keep coming back.
I see a player standing in front of the Lion’s Arch Bank or TP just firing off rainbow arrows from their legendary bow the entire time I’m crafting/peddling around in town.. Possibly 30 minutes. Still shootin those rainbows.. And I think to myself, “Is that it? Did he win the game? Do I really want to be like that guy?”
Sorry for the long and random post, I’ll cut it here. Hope someone from Anet reads
It’s true, OP, I feel the same way. I wrote posts and posts about it and honestly, I’m tired of writing…
The customers did their part – they bought the game. It’s up to ANet to quickly and efficiently fix their broken, lackluster game, if they know how. If they don’t, I will just try a next game. We gave them more than enough heads up.

It’s as if I’ve written that post myself.
And about the open world PvP part – yes. God yes. My biggest selling point for any game, and my biggest disappointment with this one. I REALLY, REALLY want a true open world PvP. REALLY.
well for me 1 reason is the story line, we get short sold our story because at some point that trehearn…..or however that plant dudes name is spelled takes over the story. so much for it being our story…..
in GW1 we were the main character, in GW2 it feels like we become some assistant in the cut scene’s. in GW1 our character at least looked more important and even took charge in some parts and told everyone where/what we were going to do.
i havent played since the recent patch, but another thing making me bored was lack of loot. i knew there was anti farming code, which actually hindered the people like me that would fight across a map while heading to a heart or storyline. at some points i would completely stop getting loot or occasionally get 1 junk item every 10 kills.
also i played through on my ranger all the way to the end to feel cheated by the end story reward. plus with all the broken events i feel like i missed out on a good portion of the content. some of the Orr maps only a few events were working when i got there, which case i was under the impression that events would chain across the map;
but never happened.
then they nerfed dungeon rewards, i was hearing all these horror stories about when people would run a few dungeons and start losing the amount of tokens recieved.
well that pretty much put me off of doing dungeons, a dungeon where people have to run over and over to achieve are in turn punished for doing so. just doesnt make sense.
anyway maybe my reasons are lame, but these reasons are part of why i am bored with the game. some are fixable but the story will most likely remain the same.
I must say, I agree with the original poster. I had really looked forward to playing GW2, and I was a beta tester. It was fine in the beginning, but the thing that gets me is the need to have a big group around in order to do some events.
So, someone might say, join a big guild or hang around until a group shows up at whatever you want to do and then do it. It’s not that easy. I tend to play at times when others don’t. There’s no point in joining a guild when the other guild members can only play when you can’t. Hanging around waiting for groups is boring and wastes what little time I have to play.
As well, there are basically no tactics to these big fights. Everyone just piles in. It was fun at first, but it has grown boring.
The other thing that is boring me is the jumping puzzles. I don’t like platform jumpers and I never have. I don’t see why, just to look at a panorama or get to a place, I should have to jump around as if I a playing another type of game.
The graphics are still beautiful, the crafting system the best I have ever found, and the towns are absolutely marvellous. It’s not enough, though. I feel so disappointed.
The game launched with lots of content. If one doesn’t enjoy that content, then no there isn’t anything else to do. I do reckon they need to improve downscaling or introduce some other mechanism to make the content missed during levelling more relevant and challenging. However, as things stand I’m enjoying doing it on alts.
I concur with the OP 100%. Just saying so, so that Arena Net “gets it”. Hopefully. Currently playing MoP and will be playing Lotro:Rohan expansion next week. Arena Net has their work cut out for them in pulling me back. I WANT to be pulled back, so hop to it Anet! Lol.
OK, from what i read…
Lets add world pvp so that people who doesnt want to be griefed are, instead of having 4 whole maps to world pvp other people who are expecting it. And then have everyone end up doing dungeons ONLY because they hate being interrupted while levelling
For dungeons, lets remove that STUPID reducing rewards and just add dungeon daily lockouts like most other mmos out there.
Lets allow legendaries to be easier to have so that everyone can have it and there is no need to call them legendaries anymore
Totally agree with OP on them removing spvp modes as a wrong move. I can see where having in server guild battles might be counterproductive since said same guild would need to work together for WvW, BUT they could have at least a cross server GvG
As for the name Guildwars please go read the reason its called that and not speculate that it means guilds currently having war
For the social aspect, personally I also feel its lacking. I understand the reason for preventing DE farming, but for the love of everything holy PLEASE increase the karma rewards from other non level 80 zones…PLEASE
And please remember, Anet never promised no grinding, what they promised is you wont be locked out of ANY content if you dont(no need to grind if you dont want to, but for people who do its there)
EDIT: I LOVE wpvp, i bought rift because of it, BUT there was noone in the world to actually fight, everyone was either in dungeons asap or in warfronts.

i agree here. i also loved the story in gw1 better. it kept me wanting to know what was gonna happen next. i just dont feel that here. the fun im getting out of this game is all about the exploration which is really fun.
Best part of GW2 is finding and doing the jumping puzzles.
I enjoy the events and doing the heart thingies for exploring the map, but I think doing them over and over gets boring pretty quickly, as there is no real point to do them unless you are after karma/exp, and the desire for exp quickly diminishes once you get to max level. and have all your skills.
I am enjoying playing an alt with friends and occasionally doing WvW although it seems like a pointless rolling zerg and at the end of the day/week it is reset and it is all about some server standing I am not sure anyone other than the minority of hardcore PvP guilds really care much about.
I am glad it doesn’t have the WoW rep/gear tier grind, but there doesn’t really seem to be much in the way of long-term goals or much in the way of sandbox elements which allow people to amuse themselves without relying greatly on developer content.
Also, the higher end zones with risen, the mob concentration is dense and the respawn rate can be epic, it makes it really slow and frustrating moving around unless you follow the event zerg train. I also don’t like risen AI on a pet class as they seem to ignore pets and focus on the player.
I used to love fighting underwater, some classes get terrible underwater abilities and I get a lot of invulnerable mobs when fighting underwater, not sure if it is some anti-exploit code, seems to happen when I am on different elevations.
I think overall GW2 is fun, but I think they could have made it into a fun single player game, most of the multi-player features aren’t the most exciting. I liked the DAOC RvR environment, GW2 WvW seems more like an e-sport thing than something where your actions matter. At the end of the week you reset, a lot of servers just give up if the going is hard early.
i know that most of you are sick of the following term...but GW2 also targeting "casual players"
they can get the most fun out of GW2
but still enough content for "serious" players...just make another character and do their story...well that’s what i do
also, WvWvW is more likely made for the serious playerbase...nothing ou just can instantly and quickjly do after logging in...
“Only the finest of potatoes in my zerkburgers.”
For the expensive travelling costs, GW1 was all about instances so to go from point A to B involved either doing an instance for 20+ minutes or using the free WP. In GW2 all major cities can be reached free of cost if you use the Asura gates(go to heart of the mist > lions arch> any major city) and from there RUN or if you are lazy like most other people spend a fee(which i dont think is that high) and go straight to where you need to be.
Apparently the utter boredom and ennui all of you all are experiencing hasn’t stopped you from posting on the forums of a game you so profess to hate.
Pity that.

Apart from one or two people in the entire forum (not even in this thread!) who’s professing to “hate” the game exactly? All I see is people who enjoyed the game, but feel like it doesn’t deliver on a couple of points and should be improved.

Apparently you must not be reading the GW2 forums then. All I see is a few of us that seem think the game is basically pretty decent….and non-stop whining over the most minor bs from gamers whose sense of entitlement is as overblown as their egos.

“Ennui” huh? I’m sure you use that one in your everyday vocabulary. And you marginalize players with legitimate concerns and earnest wishes for this game as being whiny and egotistical? Please.
General Discussion is just that. OP is finding himself bored with the endgame. That’s completely valid. Goes on to offer suggestions. Several of us agree and share our perspectives. Call it what you will.
I don’t see or or get the feeling from reading posts here that players feel they deserve more— That they got cheated out of their initial or subsequent investments in this game. Having missed out on the beta, I was very pleased with the game throughout my experience. You can’t tell me developers are indifferent when their player base drops off, and they see the trend where players get to 80 and stop playing a week later.
Anet WANTS our feedback, and because some players would rather post suggestions here than play a game they’ve grown bored with, that doesn’t mean we have lost faith in the devs or the game on the long-term. Some threads or posts, however negative they may seem, can serve the devs and the community. 9 times out of 10, some feedback is better than none.
It’s reasonable to say this MMO is in its infancy and has just begun to grow, but a number of players who had their fill will not return regardless of future fixes or installments. It’s important for Anet to keep these players. They’re some of the best. Call them whatever you want. They’re the hardcore (not to be confused with loyal) and they were/are turned off by the initial scope of the game. Its story, its combat, bots, anti-bot programming, and the overall endgame.
Again, I enjoyed my experience overall, and I appreciate Anet’s efforts here.. But at some point our praises will have no value and we need to offer constructive criticism for the good of the game and its creators.
I can’t seem to ever get bored in GW2.
Here is what I do:
- tag along with random people or friends in Orr, doing all events and harvesting
- hop into WvW for some adrenalinic sieging and mass pvp
- test new builds and playstyles
- go into previous zones to help my friends with something, or partecipate some of the awesome events (love Harathi)
- do raid bosses as they spawn (there’s a dozen of them)
- try new dyes combinations and look for new cool-looking gear
- raise my crafts a bit and sell/buy stuff for it
- lose myself into jumping puzzles (dying a lot, lol)
- hope into some dungeon team (FYI there’s 8×4= 32 different paths possible)
- do some tournaments with my guild
- throw my rares in the forge and get that lucky exotic
- do chest runs with magic find to gather some more cash-worthy stuff
I rarely have the time to do all this every day (things like dungeons and wvw just take one day alone), I just do a mix of these and I’m always doing something different while massing more gold for all my new gear sets.
What I feel I’m missing:
1) UW / FoW. I really loved the theme and difficulty of these.
2) Hunting named bosses for their named weapon.
That’s all I think.
Honestly…tired of the I’M BORED posts.
Anyone who is playing this game at an average pace is not bored…in fact they aren’t most likely 80 yet or have come close to doing all the content in the game.
It’s unfortunate many of you have been brainwashed by Blizzard and their hamster wheel of a game called WoW where they made you addicted to logging in every night and doing the same grinding, repetitive things over and over again while paying them $$$ to do it. Where they convinced you you had to rush to end game (much more apparent in BC and beyond) to do meaningful content. Look many of us played a lot of WOW, myself included. I was in beta through Cata before I stopped playing. But I never fell into that grind of WoW other then doing some fun PvP with others because PvP is always random and new each time.
Many of you need to go out to WoWwiki and go look at the WoW patch notes and see just how long it took to get content out and how long the game had dead patches of nothing but grinding because that is what they put in the game to make you keep paying them $$$. Meanwhile, you thought you were accomplishing something.
WoW 1.0 patch notes for the first 2 years

Meanwhile ANet is doing a hell of a job every day or every other day making class balance changes, fixing bugs, and so on.
The game has BEEN OUT A MONTH.
I don’t feel sorry or any empathy for people who are bored. Go find something else to do with your time, go play the hamster wheel WoW game, or just come back when Anet puts up content.
It’s like complaining that your favorite author doesn’t have a new book for you because you read the kitten novel in one sitting. Tough.

Hate to bring it up again but I keep seeing these comments:
“And about the open world PvP part – yes. God yes. My biggest selling point for any game, and my biggest disappointment with this one. I REALLY, REALLY want a true open world PvP. REALLY.” —Raging Bull.5048
ANet said from the beginning it would not be true open world pvp. They’ve always said that. Why do you complain about a function that was specifically left out of the game design?
GW2 isn’t a PvP game with some PvE elements, it’s a PvE game with dual PvP features. At least that’s how it has seemed to pan out thus far.
I troll because I care
The dungeons are a big culprit here. The game has great class design (mostly), it would be great to work together to bring down a hard boss..
Instead, what we get it stupidly powerful insta-kill attacks that are hard to avoid due to the crazy amount of particle effects. We die alot, then end up repeatedly running back to down him slowly.
Not a challenge at all, just expensive, frustrating, and mindless. I am beginning to think I should just drop this game entirely until I hear about a very large content patch or ExPack.
:( Well, at least skyrim is still fun.
