Illconceived Was Na.9781

I wish you guys would stop arguing about the definition of “duration” or “ahead of” — if you want to discuss whether GW1 or GW2 is longer lasting, please start a new thread.
--———————————————-
The OP’s concern was about whether GW2 was a ‘sequel’ or not and that is a question fraught with its own semantic pitfalls, i.e. it’s a matter of opinion just what constitutes a legit sequel or successor to the first in a franchise.

Near as I can tell, the responses in the thread divided fell into two camps:

  • People who don’t like GW2 think it’s not a sequel.
  • People who enjoy the new game (now or at launch) don’t even understand why someone would question whether it’s a sequel.

I fall into perhaps a 3rd camp: it shouldn’t matter whether I like the sequel to determine if it’s a sequel. Although I have been disappointed by any number of sequels (games, books, movies, etc), I have never worried about whether the writers/producers wanted to re-use the franchise name. For example, Tom Cruise’s Mission Impossible was an abominable entry in the MI tradition, but it’s a legit sequel (and a decent action flick, despite misusing the theme song and background).

There’s no question in my mind that GW2 left behind a lot of what was fun or unique in GW1; that, in my opinion, is irrelevant in deciding if it’s a reasonable successor (and of course it’s a sequel, since it reuses the same universe and history).

John Smith: “you should kill monsters, because killing monsters is awesome.”

People in gw2 are in LA because they are bored with playing the game

People that actually were bored with playing did quit some time ago.

You really try to imply that they are stupid because of being bored and yet sitting ingame.

Also people playing GW1 won’t simply admit that they spent so much life AND money in that game and don’t know how to let it go. Like EVE online for instance.

Why would some one wanna let go of a superior way more fun game just to go play something that’s newer and more flashy but not as fun. I think we are all allowed to spend our time as we see fit. And I really don’t think anyone should tell some one else what they are supposed to be doing for fun rather than what they want to do for fun.

I guarantee that when Deserted Desert Borderlands cycle back in I will be back in GW1.

I was the entire time it was up last time.

GW is like reading Starship Troopers. GW2 is like watching the Movie. Same title..not the same at all.

Ley lines. The perfect solution to deadlines and writers block. Now in an easy open Can.

Hey, I was being serious.
For example GW attribute system was steps ahead of GW2 stat system. It’s like Anet woke someone from crygenic sleep who only thought of stats as something you see in rpgs, like tabletop D&D, and had no idea what something like MtG even was.

Gw2 will shutdown before gw1.

I doubt it, since Anet more likely has long term goals and plans to continue on with GW2 with expansions and whatnot while older and newer players will continue to be logging in to keep the game going, unlike GW1 where there will most likely NEVER be any new content and expansions. Do me a favor, log into GW2 and go to LA. See how active it is? Now log into GW1 and go to LA. See the difference?

That logic of yours…

All the people in gw1 are in Kamadan buying/selling stuff or actually playing the game. People in gw2 are in LA because they are bored with playing the game >.<

Actually, people in LA are in there because they’re buying/selling stuff on the TP to play the game with (Or just play the TP with), flushing things down the mystic toilet, hanging out with friends, trolling map chat, hunting Karkas, grabbing JP chests, exploring for transmutation charges, and bouncing on the launch pads.

GW2, not a sequel.

Yeah. Another of those “things you loved about gw1” that didn’t make it into gw2. It was a great way to have individualized professions that was tossed aside to put in old style armor stats instead.

Be careful what you ask for
ANet may give it to you.

That’s right and I think that’s a conscientious decision … it’s the market they want to target; casual players that don’t want to do hours of math to determine what the best setup is for their character … it works too.

Now casual players get to farm 14 pieces of equipment to heal better, and another 14 pieces of equipment to do more damage. XD
Attributes didn’t require hours of math. It was a streamlined system governing the effectiveness of skills. It helped close the gap between build making in PvE and PvP so that players could transition between the two with ease.

That really must have been the reason, and the only reason. The current system is a drag, and I wouldn’t have chosen it unless I wanted to making respeccing a huge pain in the kitten . At least they were smart enough to use amulets in PvP, knowing the system they have for PvE is something no player in PvP would tolerate.
