GW2 on PS4?
I wouldn’t play Guild Wars 2 on a console. It would be neat to see it on console though.
Uh, I have a friend who routinely plays it on his big screen TV while sitting on his oversized cushy chair. PC connected via HDMI. Wireless keyboard with built-in trackball. Why would you need a PS4?
1.HDMI pc→tv
2.X360 controller in pc,
3.download X360 gw2 control sheme (they exist, but I don’t use them)
4.???
5.Profit
I have a $1,600 computer with dual 27" screens but I would still love to see it on console. The first time I played Guild Wars it ran smoothly like it was a console game. I just think it would be an awesome experience on 60" tv with surround sound. Also it doesn’t have a huge number of spells so it might be possible to implement to a controller. Massive multiplayer online is the future of consoles. With games like Planetside 2 coming to console I’m sure games like Guild wars could too. I know I would buy it I’m sure others would gladly dish out $ for it.
putting this on a console is like giving acid to a cat and hide the smell, it’s a horrible idea and kills a cat.
let alone that you;re talking about aPS4……ugh.(not that the XBone is any better, they both suck)

You want to play it on a worse machine, why?
You can emulate the Console experience with a X360 controller and a hdmi cable.
Everyone has different ways they like to play games. I just think it would be awesome to see a great game like this come to console so long as it didn’t hold the pc players back.
I would love to see the game ported to the ps4 just so they have to optimize it for multicore amd cpus.
My computer monitor is a big-screen TV so…
The problem with putting the game on a console is licensing and distribution. ANet has expressed disinterest in physical, boxed releases of the game. They much prefer digital copies and only want to have one box of the game out. Each release on a console means new contracts, new boxes, more shipping, more middlemen, etc etc.
It also means remapping the controls to a new controller and getting the game working on the PS4/X-Bone architecture. That means whole new sets of bugs for each console. It also means finding a way to get all three online networks playing together, which is its own legal and technical nightmare.
In the end, it’s just easier and more practical to keep it PC-only

Consoles, will always hold PC back. PC updates near constantly, new consoles come out every 10 years ish.

The PS4 has auto updates for games now. I agree that old consoles can hold the graphics back. However the ps4 is stronger than majority of peoples computers. Games like this also have to be optimized to run on older computers as well. It’s only a matter of time before mmo’s start showing up on next gen consoles.

I don’t think it’s ever going to happen, the console manufacturers have rules about in-game cash shops and subscriptions that the publishers won’t go along with.
It’s the same reason as to why you won’t find GW2 on Steam.

Consoles usually come out every 5 years (last gen was just unusually long). Plus the next-gen systems are designed to updated games all the time without developers having to pay a fee. Plus GW2 is not graphics heavy

games can’t update hardware but it is true GW2doesn’t require that much to run. I personally don’t really mind as I already play Gw2 at the comfort of my couch and a big screen.

I want it on my dreamcast too!
Honestly, I feel like this game was made with future gen console releases in mind. Why else would they limit you to so few buttons and abilities in combat. It’s set up perfect for controller use on that basis alone. If not I seriously wonder why hotbar design was crippled if they weren’t looking for it to be “easy” enough for consoles, for lack of a better term.
With ESO and probably EQN coming to consoles soon, it’s not out of the realm of possibilities.
RIP my fair Engi and Ranger, you will be missed.

I completely agree, the game feels like it was designed to run on new consoles. Would be so amazing to see this game come to ps4.
The engine is a mess so the APU on PS4 would probably not be able to play the game at decent framerates in its current state, but if the they do "port" it we could probably see a huge improvement for the PC version too (especially for 6-8 cores AMD CPUs).

dev’s always need to pay a fee to run their game on a console, that’s why the console version is always at least 10 bucks more expensive then the PC version.
also, the PC version can be updated for better graphics, the console version can’t.

As I said b4 guild wars 2 is not a heavy graphics game and low grade video cards can play it. Thats the point of PC games they can play on multiple tiers of cards. They are not going to up the graphics and increase their lowest common denominator because they maybe excluding long time players. Its called minimum PC requirements……thats what they put on every box of every game.

You can hook up your PC to a TV screen and connect your PS3/Xbox360 controller via USB. It’s basically the same thing. The combat system is nice if you play it on a controller, though browsing through in-game windows (e..g Trading Post) can be a chore.
Most MMOs have to do multiple servers per platform. This means servers for PS4, Servers for XBOX and Servers for PC. I doubt that Anet really wants to manage all of that.

Actually as far as I know all the MMO’s on PS4 are runnings off the same server as their PC counterpart e.g. FFXIV. So players playing the PC version can play with players playing the PS3 or PS4 version.
In any case, I imagine it would take a lot of work to bring GW2 to the PS4, considering they aren’t even willing to create a native OSX client it would be weird for them to make a PS4 client, at least in this stage of the PS4’s life, since the adoption rate is not incredibly fast (don’t get me wrong they’ve made a lot of sales, but right now a lot more people have PS3’s).
As I recall, there’s extra QC and testing that any update has to go through if it’s on a console such as the PS4 or XBox. The more updates you have, the worse of a burden this gets to be.
And ANet seems to intend to continue with updates every 2 weeks, and they already have quality problems without extra hoops to jump through. I simply don’t see it happening.
However… I could see a console game that LINKS to GW2. Say, one where you play someone in one of the orders, and possibly taking place in a mix of new and old zones. Your actions in one game can have a small effect in the other, if you have the accounts linked.
delicate, brick-like subtlety.
I kinda wish this would happen since a ps4 but given the fact that
Anet literally doesn’t care in the least bit about the mac client and seems to want to pretend like it doesn’t even exist, i’d be reluctant to spend anymore money unless i know 100% that it’s optimized
the mac client is treated like charr armor
1st, a game needs to be targeted for consoles as well as PCs. Porting a game that was PC only first to a console is unheard of. 2nd, it’s a lot easier if you are using a game engine that already exists on all platforms. The GW2 engine isn’t. 3rd, the PS4 is considerably weaker than a PC. Yes it has 8 cores but 8 relatively slow cores. The existing game engine isn’t that balanced to use that many cores efficiently and is currently very dependent on the speed of a single core.
So it’ll never happen.
RIP City of Heroes
I don’t play at a desk on a small screen anymore, my PC is now in the living room plugged on a 65" Samsung LED TV, problem solved. You could do the same while waiting a few years for it to show up on consoles, if ever.
Steam Machine it.
