GW2 on Surface Book or Surface Pro 4?
I can play it on my SP2, not with the highest graphics, but it is very playable.
I believe the 4 and 3 use the same intel Core i3/i5/i7, the only difference being that the new core is the 6th-generation vs 5th and the M3(fanless) is replacing the Core i3. I’m not sure how much faster a 6th-generation would be compared to the 5th. Possibly 10-15% real world.
The graphics are also similar since they both use the integrated intel i3/i5/i7 GPU. The Surface book does however offer NVIDIA graphics. The ram on the SP4 can go up to 16GB though so that is an increase.
If you were to get the i7 SP4 w/ 16GB ram I’m not sure you would see much difference between that and SP3. I currently get around 25-30 fps. It may be better to go for the surface book since you can get it with a NVIDIA GPU.

This game will run on integrated graphics chipsets. I played it for a long time on my 4 year old MacBook with 4 gb ram. Turn everyone down or off, and expect lower frame rates, but it’s playable.
Even players with high end machines get slow down because of server issues though.
Playable, but doesn’t look very good. Wouldn’t try it in a warm room, either.
Heat and the power supply will be the limiting factor for gaming on laptop.
I have a i5 SB with dGPU and it plays acceptable for a laptop that’s not specifically gaming. 1080 with High settings I get around 15 fps. Freaks out a bit in large meta events and drops below 10. Medium I get high 20s and Lowest settings I get around 40.
There is a new driver update from Nvidia. I’ll be installing and letting you know if its makes any improvement.
I previously played GW2 on a HP Omen and really don’t see a difference.
Hope that helps.
SP3 had about half the performance of the SP2 due to the fact they slimmed it down and crippled the CPU and GPU . Hopefully SP4 is reaching decent performance again?
I play GW2 on my Surface Pro 2 from time to time as well when traveling for work. Great little device. As others have said, graphics on lowest as you can get, even undersample the resoution (At the screen size, you cant really tell at range anyway). Works with 25-30fps then.
Limiting aspects are keyboard that is tight to control your action and the small screen. But as an on the go sollution its pretty good.
I would say with 2 years of iteration it should run just fine on a SP4. You have to accept low quality though, and always keep it powered.
No one with the Surface Book?
It runs alright on my surface book, usually ~21 fps. PvP is doable but can get a little annoying sometimes.
