Are we gamers really so shallow that all we can think with is our wallets and not our love for a game?

The gaming companies only think with their wallets. I honestly thought Anet would be different. So why not give them a taste of their own medicine?

Every company i n existence is like this thats how our economy works you know welcome to reality my friend,.

I know, but thinking only with their wallet isn’t the same as wanting profit. Two completely different things, my friend.

Thats probably true but companies today do everything to make more money they sell weapons, destroy our eco system, child labour and so on who cares about a gaming company “lying” about some virtual items. there is always way way worse stuff going on out there .

After seeing the recipe for the new ascended items and after realizing ANet has destroyed drop rates to make this game even more of a pitiful grind – I’m pretty much done with the game. Lost Shores will be the patch that killed GW2.

So why are you playing a game when there are children suffering? There are far more important things to do in the world than have fun. Why aren’t you out there helping the starving, abused, suicidal, eco system…?

This world needs more people being frank and less people being offended.

I know, I know. Calling on people to try to keep in perspective is not the done thing. Maybe it’s my age, but I’m patently less inclined to throw the baby out with the bath water than many of the “that’s it! I QUIT!” people out there…I mean, seriously? Quitting a game that’s already been paid for but continues to provide stuff to do for many? I admit it, I just don’t get it.

I think you are wasting your time if your purpose, and those who think like you, are to come on these forums and “call on people to try to keep things in perspective.” What you people don’t realize is that some of us “hate, hate, hate” gear treadmill MMOs. And if we had been told that GW2 was going to become a “gear treadmill” MMO, we would have stayed far, far away from it, just as many of us have stayed far, far away from the leagions of copy/paste WOW clones in the MMO genre.

It has nothing to do with having things handed to us, or desiring ease of game, or being over-dramatic about what many of you call a “minor” change. It has everything to do with the fact that we were promised GW2 would be the anti-gear-treadmill MMO and we purchased the game under that premise, only to be back-stabbed by turning a game we planned to play for a long while into a hated gear-treadmill MMO.

I understand many of you wanted GW2 to become a gear-treadmill MMO. I read your threads from time to time on these forums so I know you are out there. You are all the same people who are chastising us who are voicing our displeasure because Anet has done a complete 180 on what they had promised us this game would be.

All I can say is you got what you wanted. A gear-treadmill MMO. Just please stop trying to minimize the feelings of “the deceived.”

There is no point in trying to change something that cannot be changed.

I actually typed the whole logical argument against this, but then realized “Why should I?”. No point in trying to change your opinion as it cannot be changed. And besides we are all self-destructive.

Not when you love playing MMOGs, but have been sick to death of the end-game gear-treadmill power-creep skinner box design that literally hundreds of current MMOGs employ …. and have been not playing MMOGs for several years because of it, or have been enduring playing in such MMOGs until something different comes out … and then a company that has a 7 year track record of a game (GW) of defying those conformist MMOG mechanisms promises, advertises, and goes with a full-blown media campaign that GW2 is going to be just such a game … and you pre-purchase the game and play in betas and – unbelievably – realize that they really are delivering what they said. So you get your friends – who are all burned out on the gear-grind end-game treadmill games that offer more casual gamers (meaning, cannot or will not gear-grind endlessly) nothing but a long slide down the power-curve into increasing irrelevancy and scrub-ness – excited about a game that is going to be different, that is actually going to be structured in a way that you and your friends can max out characters, be on an equal footing with everyone else, where only skill really matters. Then the game goes live and holy MMOG, Batman it really is what they claimed! It delivered! You and your friends spend hundreds of dolllars in the cash shop for not much reason other than to just support ANET and make sure they don’t have any difficult financial decisions to make, make sure they realize their work is loved and appreciated!

Then, without warning, without even trying to make the original model work, without any discussion with their fan base, in the very first real content update that was obviously planned and well into coding since before launch, even after a very successful launch and having to add servers and capacity since launch, this company threw 7 years of credibility and trust out the window and gave all of us avid, adoring fans the finger and refuse to even face us now.

It’s not that it’s just a video game, or that it’s just a few items of gear or some stats: does nobody care about principles and ethics anymore? Everyone should be condemning ANET for this betrayal in the strongest terms, even those that wanted gear progression, even those that this change doesn’t even affect, even those that play WoW or don’t even play MMOGs, because this kind of behavior is just flat out unacceptable.

If next week they change all the graphics to pink kittens and lollipop weapons, is that okay? If after people grind all their top ascended gear ANET puts the exact same set of armor in the cash shop for $20, is that okay? After all, it’s just a game, right?

I didn’t ask for a gear treadmill either, so quoting me and then lumping me in with some mythical group of your own invention just for suggesting that people try to stay on planet earth?

As I said, I understand the frustrations, some of them I share. I’m just not having a brain fart over it. You however, are probably a prime candidate for an accute myocardial infarction if this is how you carry on whenever you hit a few wrinkles in life.

You selectively picked a portion of my post that was merely used to clarify a point, and in so doing you you missed the entire point of my post. Perhaps I should not have included you in the wanting a gear treadmill crowd. But that was not my point. To clarify, my point is that “people are having a brain fart” and threatening to quit for a legitimate reason. You may not think it legitimate, but others do for the reason stated in my post. And I am far from having a <insert big word.> This may be news to you, but unlike many people, video games have no impact on my personal life what so ever. I only play video games every once in awhile to have fun with a hobby that my bf enjoys. Right now I just happened to be reading the forums while he is at work and I voiced my opinion about the matter. Simply that and nothing more.

Incorrect. Mostly it is just bad companies that use deception for a short term gain. Successful companies generally take actions to maximize their profits over the long term, sacrificing future profits for a quick buck is generally not the greatest of strategies… unless that quick buck (box sales from anti-treadmill players) was really worth the blow to the company’s reputation and future box/in game shop sales to this group.

To me, most of the bad experiences around this game have come from customer support and quality control.

They have to have some of the coldest, most robotic customer support I’ve ever experienced in a game. You can tell them that you checked your system specifications and they’ll reply back asking you if you’ve checked your system specifications. They don’t seem to read your ticket or try and make things personable. It’s worse than waiting for an hour on a phone in order to get a hold of your local telephone provider.

Then comes the quality assurance. Something is wrong. When you come out with an event that lasts 3 days, it should be imperative that your event works and is not bugged. Last night we had an npc from Lion’s Arch bugged, the npc in Kessex Hills bugged all to do with the event. This does not even include the other countless skillpoints and events bugged on a daily basis.

EDIT: I should also mention the story questline that took 2 months to be fixed. I actually know people who left the game as a result of that alone.

To me, the game is great, but the way customer support and quality assurance handles things really could be the stake in the heart if they don’t fix it.
