GW3 - Next Gen
That is a single player game.
They have not finished telling the story of GW2 yet, I don’t think GW3 is even an itch in its daddy’s pants as it where yet.

Ye,and pretty generic, you can find these graphics and gameplay in many preceding games.

I’m sure they have ideas on how they can improve upon GW2.
And it doesn’t hurt to ask some questions about crucial game features.
-Will there be mounts ;p
-GW had no jump,GW2 has jump,GW3 will have double jump?

GW3 will need a good story , gameplay as well as creative environments. Next gen aside, GW2 fails in the story area for me compared to GW1.
GW2 fails in the gameplay area for me comapred to GW1.
GW2 does succeed in creating interesting environments compared to GW1.
GW3 will not be for a very very long time if at all but hopefully the devs will learn from their mistakes and make a decent game.

I’m sure they do, but as far As GW3 is concerned, it is a pointless topic. Lots of things changed in GW1 from the time it launched to the time they stopped adding content. GW2 now is very different to what it was at launch, I’m sure ANet have many ideas as to what they want to do. The only time we will see a GW3, is when they can no longer do what they want with in GW2 dew to limitations with the game engine.
Maybe then we’ll see a GW3. But then look at WoW. There has been no WoW 2, and I don’t think we will see one, not anytime soon any way.

So .. where are the 50+ people battles in that game that shows how superior
DX12 on a Playstation is ?
Oh and btw. .. if GW2 will maybe released with DX12 at that time DX15 or 16 is
the new FotM.
Best MMOs are the ones that never make it. Therefore Stargate Online wins.
I don’t think we’ll see a GW3 – I think GW2 will simply have a long enough life to not require it. And if I am wrong and there is one, it will be 10+ years before we see it. If there is stuff they can’t do with GW2, then I expect they’ll start from scratch rather than redevelop the previous engine. It took them a long time to get GW2 off the ground and even then it wasn’t fully finished (although I;d argue more so than most MMO’s I’ve played from launch)
What would be interesting is if they did one in say 10-15 years time, we’d be getting into more fully steampunk/archaic SF style backdrop for Tyria judging by the way technology is jumping forward so rapidly in game. That would be interest me a lot.
There are a number of factors:
1. Risk that market changes, average dev time is 5 years + for an AAA mmorpg
2. Cost/benefit -would 5 years of GW3 development be covered by replacement of GW2 with GW3?
3. When is it needed, i.e when should focus switch from expanding GW2 to GW3?
point 3 – new version of mnmorpg generally means expansion of IP and new/modified engine/new classes/ new skills. I would imagine most would want the devs to focus on expanding the GW2 universe and content over the next 5 years. gGfx wise it is already gorgeous, and customer PC’s move on in terms of performance each year so that facet is moot.
So for me an educated guess would be that they will start developing it in 5-10 years, with an eta of 2025-2030

If there wont be a serious new competitor they will keep the release pace they have now. Can see that tyria map is like revealed at around 50 % now and still they can pull out cantha or elona any time , even drop in a new continent.
So gw3 is maybe 15-20 years from now or never.
this might be too early to bring up but when do you guys think anet will start working on the next gen gw3?
i just saw some gameplay of a unrelease game for the first time and i couldnt help but notice some similarities with gw2. (not promoting the game, just comparing it)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T5Xx3MdqdgMthe graphics are unbelievable, the art work, environment, culture, and even the game combat style are so alike to gw2. however, the most important thing it lacks is magic elements and the touch of fantasy.
point is, could we be taking a look in gw3 with directx 12 and much more?
because if anet heads this route in the future, i fear for my wallet lol
This is a PS4 game…. a console game. Why do you look at consoles for graphics marvels? PC is where it’s at, PS4 cant even handle 1080p 60FPS so it makes no sense to look for new awesome advances in gaming technology on it, or any console for that matter.
I don’t think we will see GW3 until ANet outgrows the current engine. And even then I hope that they are working on upgrades to parts of the engines with their bigger updates (read: expacs) so that its life will be longer
i dont want a gw3, not for at least 10-15 yrs
There’s no such thing as “next gen” with PCs, and Anet have already said they have no desire of developing for console market, so even if GW3 would happen (which at the moment is extremely unlikely, and would be a dumb idea for Anet), it wouldn’t be a “next gen” thing.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
You don’t put a cow that still produces plenty of milk up for slaughter as it were. GW2 still has enough life in it left that GW3, if it ever happens, is likely not even talked about.
Companies have to look 5-10 years ahead. There is no way that they aren’t setting up the foundations for GW3, unless they are taking a chance with a new IP.
GW3?!
Wait what?
I am still waiting for this game
I just realised the manifesto is 5 years old o_O
i think some people are misunderstanding the main idea. i know the game i showed is for ps4 only, a single player rpg game and in no way a console can be more powerful than a pc. i dont own any consoles and i will not buy a console for the sake of one game lol. i just happen to be browsing youtube when i ran into the video. i watched and the thought of having a gw3 look like these crossed my mind, thats all. im really not a casual gamer and only stay loyal to a few games at a time. (for example i been playing gw2, bf4 and gtav for the longest)
i know gw2 still has years to go but do you think anet will adapt to directx 12 and new technologies or will they go for directx 10 or 11 in order to get as many players as possible. thats what i meant as next gen, since gw2 is currently running directx 9 lol
Anet moved from GW1 to GW2 for two reasons :
- to create a MMO (GW1 was cooperation game)
- because GW1 graphics were too old.
None of this reasons exist today, GW2 graphics are cartoonish enough to seem correct for 10 years and more (like WoW). Everquest needed a sequel because they targeted too realistic grapics, and Everquest 2 couldnt beat WoW in the long run for the same reason.
So no GW3 before at least 10 years (and probably never).

From a MMORPG aspect, GW1 was ahead of its time. GW2 was ahead of its time. If something like GW3 happens someday I’m sure they will craft it top notch. But there are limitations when developing an MMO. It will never be a match for single player games visually.

Reason 2 is incorrect. They reached what they could do with the GW1 engine. And that was holding back what they wanted/could do. So they got to work heavily modifying the GW1 engine so they could do all the things they wanted. Now if they ever get to that point with GW2, we may have problems, as I can’t see them being able to modify the engine anymore than it already has been, in terms of complete game changing stuff, so they would need to make/buy a completely new one. That alone could take a very long time, if they didn’t buy one of course.

Long ways down the road if that….
Only reason Guild Wars 2 even exists is due to limitations that Guild Wars 1 had…
- No Swimming
-No Jumping
- Couldn’t walk up hills
Unless NCSOFT holds a gun to Anets head and tells them to release GW3 or the doors will be locked, i don’t see it happening any time soon.

All graphics improvements can be done to GW2. Re-modeling maps is easier than making completely new and different maps.
Black Desert quality character models would be nice.
Armors/clothes that fits on. Most gw2 clothes are “fat” because otherwise they would clip. There are software which can make that quality clothes.
Armor pieces from different sets does not look nice. Clipping between pieces. Color differences when they use the same dye.
Big shock: Anet are working on other games, they have already said that. They might even have started the development of GW3 – who knows? Even if that is so the development would take several years, meaning something like a 2020 release date might be possible, if they really, really pushed development. It is still unlikely as they are still working on GW2 updates, patches and releases.
Problem, in order to take on games like WoW there needs to be a large amount of content in a game, we haven’t got anywhere near that in GW2 and not even if you included all of GW1 in the mix would you be near.
Probably. Most projects are started while their predecessors are out or shortly after their release and take years to put together. Very few games really have no backlog years long that are terribly popular.
What if VR takes off like smartphones ?
I remember the devs saying it can’t be added in GW2 because the engine wouldn’t allow it.
Clearly PvE would be huge with VR.
Maybe they’ll focus the next expansion around rewriting the engine though creating a new engine from scratch for VR might be easier.

The problem with VR is it would require two different views, one for each eye. That might not be as difficult to provide as they are trying to make out.
Everything else should be easy.
I think the issue is more about implementing the VR SDK into the existing rendering solution.
