Q:

So after i bought GW2 i played it for a week and haven’t really touched it since i only have one problem i love the storytelling and combat but leveling in general has been a problem for me. I want to go straight to threw the personal character story content because i enjoy a good story and the story is the main reason i play a game, the combat/game play usually comes second to me. Now of course to continue the main/personal story quests and such you have to level in order to be able to even do more story quests. That in and of itself doesn’t bother me too much, i like the tasks and random events for exp but i rather don’t like the points of interest and vistas nearly as much i prefer combat to get exp. but from what i can tell you have to do every side thing in order to level at a decent pace. i would prefer if i could solely level form story quest and other combat related things, its more entertaining for me but i cant grind because the pace of leveling would be too slow. But my main question is am i missing something? is there more to leveling than doing EVERYTHING in an area then moving on, i feel like you should be able to choose ur style of leveling, so you dont have to do a certain part that you dont want to.

Compared to many other MMO’s this game is not made around leveling so you shouldn’t think about that too much but I see your problem.

But there has to be more fun for you to level on since you get exp from almost everything in this game, Crafting, exploring, defeating enemies (Incl other players in WvW), breaking stuff, compleating events and tasks.

Events: Also you can visit “old” outleveled maps and still get good exp and just go around and look for event and tasks if you like the story, some event’s are realy interesting and fun

Dungeons: As soon as you are level 30 you can start doing Story mode Ascalon Catacombs and next story dungeon at level 40 and so on, and if you find a good team you can do Explorer modes on these dungeons as soon as you are level 35, 45 and so on (also these gives you good exp even if you have outleveled them).
I think you get something like 75% level from a compleation of a Dungeon no matter what.

WvW: Don’t bother if you arent level 80, try WvW.
IMO it is fun and it is quite easy just to dive in to and leave whenever you wan’t, I always goes to WvW when I don’t have anything “better” to do and only got an hour to play or so.
Even though you are up level to 80, you can still gain levels by doing just participating in WvW activities.

Crafting: The this game has the most enjoyable crafting of any MMO imo but it is still booring, sadly at the moment Anet have made crafting necessary if you wan’t an Ascended weapon in the future so by leveling your crafting from 0- 400 is 15 levels just by crafting no matter what level you are on.
(There will be other means to aquire Ascended weapons)

By the way you don’t have to do everything in an area to move on, there are enough maps to do to level you to level 80 two times around, atleast.

Well you could level just by doing Dynamic Events and the hearts if you like.

It will be slower but if you gather some stuff when you come across it, it will help too.
You can sell the mats for money or you can craft for even more xp.

Use food/sharpening stones etc to get an xp boost, that will also help you as well as those random boosts you get from Black Lion chests and sometimes dailies.

Nothing forces you to do everything in a zone but you mostly get nice rewards for completing a map- and if you ever want to make a legendary weapon you will have to 100% complete the whole map.
But mostly you could level entirely from doing Dynamic Events if you wanted

Level to about 60 and then start doing the personal story. You can pretty much go non-stop from there to the end.

This is what my husband and I have been doing. We do some crafting, some map completion, etkittenil we get between 55 and 60, then we just start going through the story. It’s more enjoyable to us if it’s not broken up so much by the leveling process. Probably because it takes us a while due to the short hours of play on weeknights. Being able to go from story mission to story mission makes it flow better, and makes the storytelling better (at least for us). Its also a pretty decent way to finish leveling the character to 80 in a hurry. =)

Don’t look at me like that. Whatever you’ve heard, it’s probably not true.
