We are almost in 2nd month of megaservers and you still say “but they said they are working on the megaserver issues. Why don’t you be patient”. I can’t see any improvements. I don’t have any trust about improvements.

Just because you, and your kind of players, wanted lower level maps to be crowded, we are all suffering an endless zerging, 0 communication, 0 care, 0 community, 0 coordination game. Thanks.

Clearly you have much expertise at these sort of problems and have all the solutions and programming know-how to automagically fix the current state of the game in less than 2 months!

You are thinking about only yourself and not about the whole picture. In my opinion an mmo needs a constant supply of new players and most new players aren’t going to want to play an mmo with dynamic events by themselves. It’s not as fun as having a group of random people run in with you and tackle the event together. That is how it will be with new areas and content being released all the time so you can see why this was needed. Could it have been implemented better? Yes it could have, I don’t disagree there.

Just because you don’t see immediate change it doesn’t mean they’re not working on it and there has been communication, just not enough. The problem isn’t “zerging” either, the problem is that the game hasn’t been optimized for a megaserver atmosphere. There should be over 100 players trying to take down world bosses! Bosses and events just need to be changed to accommodate this but that takes time to do and patience on our part.

I wrote a wall of text about idea behind megaservers for you a month ago:

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Feedback-Questions-MegaServer/3966741/quote

And my opinion about megaservers is they should not have been implemented at first place. ANet is still wasting its sources for a “never-gonna-be perfect” system. They could make megaservers a little more tolerable if they also implemented a district system. However, they stated that their current architecture does not support such technology. So, we are trapped in a megaoverflow system which is not better than old system.

“Optimized” is not the word to use here. The games has not been DESIGNED for a megaserver atmosphere. Hence why rushing out such a system that was undeniably incomplete into the game was not only a terrible idea, but also incredibly negligent of ArenaNet. Work should have been done to shift the game’s design to support megaservers BEFORE it was implemented, so that the transition could have been as smooth as possible. Instead, we have a system rushed out that thoroughly breaks many features of the game and causes drastic changes to the way that it’s played. And now we get to wait until they rebuild the game around it.

And I’m going to reiterate this as many times as a kittening have to, in as many threads as I have to. We were told to “wait and see” when we brought up major concerns about the megaservers at the very moment of the announcement. Players, who were not working on the system and likely are not familiar with game design were able to almost immediately identify the core issues that would arise from this system. But they were told to wait and see. And what happened? Every concern was validated. The players were right. But no acknowledgement from ArenaNet. Everything’s going smoothly says their Facebook. Full kittening steam ahead on converting those zones. Flat. Out. Ignored. They’ve worn out their player’s faith, so asking us to be patient now is a joke. How long until they admit their failures, own up to the system’s shortcomings, and give some kind of insight as to how they’ll fix it? It’s already been 2 months too long.

yeah it would be one thing if there were constant changes and reworks coming out with speedy iteration, but essentially they make a huge change without the background work it needs to mesh well with the game, and then we have to wait for them to figure out how to deal with it. Worst of all, they havent communicated which issues they intend to solve, and which issues are just lost for the “greater good”

Was just looking at this game in the view of maybe coming back to it.

Then I noticed Megaservers.

Been playing ESO (which is on a megaserver), have to say it’s been a poor experience and that’s just looking at the megaserver aspect of it.

Megaservers do nothing for RP they do nothing for fostering an MMO community thanks to all the phasing.

I guess companies choose this option probably because it’s cheap and cheerful. Well not cheerful for the players.

Oh well looks like I’ll have to find something else to play, as I won’t play on any more megaservers.

1. A lot of servers had enough players in lower level zones, thanks very much. Why punish the higher populated servers by lumping us in with the underpopulated ones, and overpopulating everyone? Games do server merges pretty frequently; that would have been a better option here.

On Tarnished Coast, we weren’t lacking for players before the Megaserver. Sure, you didn’t see a player every 2 feet while mapping, but why in the hell would you want to be one of ten players camping 4 mob spawns for a heart? Seriously, how is that more fun than there only being one or two people there?

2. The majority of players have obviously voiced their opinions on the zerg epidemic. Most don’t want the current population on world bosses. No, it doesn’t matter if you make them harder. The only ones that should require even close to 100 players to down are Tequatl and the 3-Headed Wurm. The rest of the bosses were just fine with less players, were designed with less players in mind, and having 100+ people and all their skill effects on your screen is hell even on high-end computers. This is not an improvement.

You like having your entire screen filled with players and not even being able to see any AoEs or, hell, the boss itself? Good for you. Everyone I’ve talked to hates it. Personally, I stopped doing world bosses about a month ago. It was fun back when the most we had on a boss was 30-40 at the very most. Now it’s pathetic and boring. I’m not the only one that gave up world bosses because of the Megaserver, either.

World bosses were designed with a smaller zerg in mind – that’s why they aren’t scaling well. In order to actually make them a challenge (though not too much so, like Tequatl), you would have to completely re-design every single world boss, Karka Queen included. You would also have to make sure you had a good balance between difficulty and easymode – make them too difficult, people get angry because people who don’t read chat will make bosses fail. Make them too easy, people get angry because bosses meant to be more difficult than mere champions are too easy. Why do that when you can lower the softcap on server maps, have smaller zergs, and not have to do all that work to change them?

3. There has been no communication on this issue. The only mention they’ve made of the failure that is the Megaserver is that they’re happy with the results and will continue to tweak it. That’s it, and it was in a general news announcement. There has been no dev response on any of these CDI threads about whether or not they’re even reading our suggestions or working on the issues we’ve brought up, even though they were actually started by ANet, so I’m not sure why they’re even still here.

If they’re actually working on softcaps/server-specific maps or chat/whatever else hundreds of people have suggested in these threads, great, I’ll be happy to see that, but so far we have gotten no sign of this piece of kitten ever being improved. I’ll be ecstatic to be proven wrong, but until we actually get a response (and let’s face it, almost two months after the fact, we should have gotten something by now), no one’s going to think they’re actually listening.

I like the megaservers, but it does make some items hard to complete. an example would be the heart “Assist the Ash Legion” in diessa plateau. Everyone always completes it so there’s about 1-2 spawns of charr to kill when it’s not running. It makes completing the heart VERY difficult.

I don’t know why we’re just not given the option to choose whether to be in a Megaserver or not. I mean, megaserver has its own pros, but sometimes the zerg is just too big for what the events in the map seems to be designed for. I dont know if this is a design fault or anything, but if its too messy to redesign, at least you gotta give people the choice. I think everyone has their own preferences.

Seriously the only reason i can see why we cannot choose shards conveniently named by a raising number (updated to the clients every 30 seconds), is that the Megaserver sorting AI Skynet is actually sentient and it would be murder to kill her off now. Too bad she is the biggest troll of all.

So much this. I hopped in on a Karka Queen run (something my friend has missed 5 times in a row because it spawns randomly and dies too quickly…) and there were so many players on it the actual boss didn’t load. I got rolled over and Downed in what seemed to be random. Funny on one end, massively irritating on the other.

Many alts; handle it!

I thought the idea behind megaserver was suppose to make it so you were paired with your friends and guildmates. Why am I constantly having to get a taxi to their map version? I play with them all the time. Wasn’t there suppose to be a smart system that paired you with friends and guild mates if the maps weren’t full?

A map have two states of full though.
First state of full is when no new people can join the map on their own and requires a taxi to get in.
The second state of full is when it is completely full and you can’t even get in with taxi.

Popular maps hit the first state of full rather fast, and as such you will be put on another one.

World bosses were always pretty easy. But sometimes they would at least be a challenge. You had to call upon people in the area and fellow guild mates to come and help you out and if there weren’t too many people there it took some degree of challenge. Since the megaserver came out it’s just a massive group of people jumping from world boss to world boss with 0 challenge and 0 need for tactics of any sorts. You can’t even see the boss because there are so many people there. I know those of you that just want to bounce around from waypoint to waypoint looking for a quick buck probably love this, but for those of us that actually enjoyed having to call for assistance and some element of actual gameplay as opposed to random button mashing and then picking up your undeserved loot, it really sucks. You have taken all of the fun out of the world bosses. It would be stellar if this could be fixed somehow.

I’ve heard other players mention similar concerns. Idk much about how much server space and how much programming it would take, but maybe a possible solution is to have an option at login screen to uncheck the megaserver. I’m thinking currently the map limit is like 500 players, so maybe unchecking the megaserver box could place players into a miniserver, with a max of like 50-100 players. Miniservers could have the same boss scheduals and cross server capabilities.

How about if they have more than one of these bosses scheduled for the same time. Even 2 at a time would help to split up the zerg.

That would be awesome also.

Some world events of orr are not available for most players. I use my characters for scouting out temple status, but the world events rarely start. I spent much time trying to convince people of the benefits of a failed temple defence. Nobody can do the world event, if only a handful of people decides to defend. These defenders are seldom only the inexperienced players, who dont know about the mechanics. Its the same people over and over again.
I observed this for a while now.
They farm the temple defence. Its very profitable to deal with countless mobs with only 5-10 people. The drops are insane. As opposed to the zerg, where you can hardly hit monsters once, before they die.
This works only, because the majority of players keeps away from temple defences in favor for the resulting attack event. Even if there is a farming zerg on the map.
The result is: a few people are stopping world events to happen for everyone.
Thats why guilds need scouts now check the temples for hours to allert other players of the rare occurence.
btw: dwayna is rarely defended, no loot-greed to satisfy there

Something must be done
