am i the only person that is having an issue with retaining my rune but changing my stats – or am i being really thick, i hope im not.

Guys i want to un-equip soldiers armour and equip knights, but as far as i can tell the only way i can do this now is to buy the knights and a new rune as i dont see how else i can do this.
the wardrobe only offers me a skin, so can will still keep my soldiers stats. If i equip the knights armour i cant get the rune from my old soldier armour – at least with the old transmutation stones i could get exactly what i wanted with no issues. i use 2 peices of armour, that combined the stats, rune and looks i wanted, and out came what i was after – now im just totally confused and seem to only be able to change the look but still keeps the old unwanted stats…. anybody help?

If the runes are valuable and the old armor wasn’t bought with karma or badges, salvage the old armor with a Black Lion Salvage Kit and apply them to the new armor.

If they aren’t particularly valuable (and most runes aren’t), buy them again.

Just dicovered…. That the outfits are nothing u can take on and off… once u take it off, it’s used up and gone! Shouldnt outfits be able to take on and off? This particular thing I dont like!

That’s not how outfits work. I reuse all of my outfits on all of my characters. I have 3 running around in the bloody prince’s outfit, 3 in the new ancestral garb and 1 in mad king thorn’s outfit. Oh, and one is in the fancy winter clothes.

I am having a very similar issue. I have the expensive perplexity runes and torment runes with torment sigils and force sigils on gear that I no longer use. Added it all up and its 127 gold worth of sigils/runes alone. I cant afford a new set of runes and I cant salvage it since it was all bought in WvW. So far the upgrade extractor is the only option but if I could afford it, I could just buy new runes/sigils and the old ones would still be sitting in my bank.

Some simple solutions would be to allow gear to be mixed or ALL armor/weapons to be salvageable . If they don’t want karma/WvW armor to be salvageable, set it to where the salvage kits only remove from the runes/sigils when the gear is destroyed. Or even lower the price of the upgraded extractor so its reasonable compared to what you be getting back. At the moment one upgraded extractor is 20-25 gold worth in gems. there is only 1 sigil that is more then that in the game so far so either way it makes more sense to re-buy the sigil. Please Anet do something! Really sucks to know you have a small fortune in runes/sigils that are currently useless to use

Hm. Just got back to the game after a long time away. I’m enjoying the additional items that fit into my Collections tab, and the universal wallet system. The Wardrobe is decidedly more of a mixed bag.

It’s brought some definite improvements like skin unlocks and an outfit slot, and transmutation is streamlined pleasantly compared to the original version. For all the good that did, the Town Clothes change is terrible, leaving me unable to dye it or mix it with other items. The conversion rate of my baubles is…uninspiring, as well. I won’t name any names, but there are a dozen other MMOs that GW2 could have aped a new wardrobe system from. What’s been implemented is, at the absolute best, a mediocre solution to wardrobes.

It’s sad to think about the amount of planning and development that went into this overhaul to produce such an unfortunate result. It’s pretty much ensured that I won’t be spending any cash on transmutations until I hit 80 on any given character, and get a relatively final set of gear.

Judging by the size and duration of this thread, it’s being received poorly by a fair number. Makes one wonder if it’s going to do more damage than good to the money gained through wardrobe functions.

The main problem is the way they handled townclothes – spectacularly poorly. I have no idea how this could have been approved as an appropriate solution. The outfit slot is lame too. All of the former townclothes pieces should have been converted into slot-specific skins, period, even if it required them being reworked.

How I’ve handled the wardrobe change:

No more outfits. I see them on sale but I just think ‘why bother?’.
Limited transmutations. Gone the opposite direction. Now they’re more limited and precious; I just salvage or store old armour and don’t bother with runes or transmutation till I hit 80. Which is twice now. Also means I’m not in a hurry to explore everywhere and get around the world.
Tonics. Still annoyed.

As I mentioned on a separate thread (apologies) the cumulative effect of removing transmutation and making karma and WvW armor and weapons unsalvageable is that the very expensive runes and sigils from my exotics are lost now that I have made ascended gear. They are stuck on soul bound unsalvageable exotics. It has cost me 200g plus and it is demorolising! salvage and transmutation is not just about skins you know, it is about stats and mods too!

I also have a “GW2 T-kitten” bonus, but doesn’t look good with the rest of basic outfit, not even color’s adjusting to white/red. Sad…

I haven’t seen a single person who supports the change of our old Town Clothes into Tonics. Clothing as Tonics is a horrible idea on many levels (this has been discussed to death many places. No need to go into detail here). There is no reason they should not be Outfits instead.

Please change all the old Town Clothing items that were turned into Tonics into Outfits instead.

Then make sure everyone (including new post April 15th players) has the “starter” Outfit in their Wardrobe.

Then restore the “instant swap” keybind functionality to change between Armor and Outfits with a single key press.

Wardrobe is kitten. Tonics are kitten.

You think the Riding outfit looks good? NO! That’s probably why I only bought the Boots and trousers, I bought a sweet Country Lace shirt to go with.

I don’t kittening wear hats.
I don’t kittening want goggles.
And I don’t want to be FORCED to choose between looking like a kitten wearing the Townclothes tonic, or looking like a kitten wearing the Riding Costume.

There is a REASON I buy all my clothes SEPARATELY, and never touch the jokes you call costumes.

I want my gems back.

Still waiting for some official response to this thread. It’s been almost 2 months now. I and so many others want our mix-and-match, dye-able town clothes back. Even if it takes 6 months to fix this cluster-kitten, at least let us know you heard us and are working on it.

Like the poster above, I am being extremely sparing in any future gems purchases. They lost my trust and loyalty. Not exactly on April 15th, but in the weeks that followed when they didn’t give a rip about responding to the outcry from their players on this topic.

If they aren’t particularly valuable (and most runes aren’t), buy them again.

This works for crafted armor but like many have pointed out Karma armor isn’t. At the same time, the runes that most people use due to the serious lack of interest in even their own trinity and their own diversity, most people are building zerker builds and as we’ve all seen those are getting more expensive by the day.

Hi, I thought id post it in this thread because id like a red post answer about this. So i decided i wanted to buy the monocle to unlock the skins in my wardrobe and i bought the medium version which is cheapest, but before i salvaged it for skin my friend warned me that it doesnt unlock the skin for all the weights. Is this some kind of a bug or will i be forced to buy all three weights to have the skins unlocked? I will just keep mine in the bank until i get an answer and possibly consider selling it if it wont unlock all 3 considering it did for all the other skins/armors i own. Please Anet reply on this asap! ty

Most items that share a skin name will unlock all iterations of that skin. You don’t have to unlock all prefixes of a greatsword in order to be able to use its skin on any prefix of a greatsword. That’s the inconsistency.

i didnt say it applies to skins only now did i? ive been lucky enough to get 2 wurm ascended chests so far and picked the light gloves and shoulders (which is armor btw) and unlocked the other skins across all weights and they dont even look the same so that makes even less sense. all monocles have actually the same skin so why wouldnt it unlock? there is no reason for it not to.

IMO, it isn’t so much a case of “able to” as it is “choosing to”. There has been 19 pages on this, with little to no official response from Anet’s side at all. I am still waiting on them to fix the kittened up forced exchange rate that kittens over people who wish to transmute as they level, and kittens over the people who want to be able to change runes from 1 item to the next. Those are just the issues that I (and many others have). This isn’t even considering the massive kittenup that the town clothes have become.

There were horned helm skins that were awarded for some event, and there were specifically 3 of them that unlocked the weight class separately. And the look in game was identical for all of them, if I remember correctly.

i think they should add one line more on the “free” style change, every single skin you buy trough the gem store.
buying the style is one thing, constantly having to spend money on charges is just ridicules.
i can fully understand the cost for in-game skins but gem store exclusive skins should not add more cost, we already spend enough on them.

ps. make the costumes cheaper, i can get the same for half the price for GW1 and they are at a higher quality.

I don’t even know if this thread is still relevant, but it’s a feedback thread and I’ve got some feedback.

I don’t have a problem with the wardrobe overhaul or any of that, my issue is with the town clothes/outfit garbage. I came back from a hiatus unable to find any of my town clothes and I was made aware that you had to visit a vendor in order to “get” the clothing that your character was wearing back. But since it doesn’t display town clothes separately anymore, the whole thing turned into a guessing game of which character was wearing what outfit before I left for hiatus. I’ve managed to get my Mad King’s Outfit and Witches Outfit (minus the broom) back, along with various head items but I can’t find my Celebration Hat anywhere (a hat you got free from the gem store during the first few weeks of the game opening, and also one of my most prized possessions).

I don’t know which characters of mine had what items, and there was no indication of what items they had from before. Hell, I don’t even know if I still have the character or characters that have the items I’m missing. I have a feeling they’re on a character that I deleted when I came back after checking them for town clothes (which of course, said nothing because the town clothes section of the wardrobe was removed and ANet didn’t have the courtesy to move the items back into your inventory before you were supposed to figure out that you had to hand them over to the vendor for skins). I know it’s my fault these items went missing because I deleted the character, but I’m upset because if I came back before the wardrobe overhaul it wouldn’t have happened. I would have been able to open the character’s wardrobe, switch to the town clothes tab and been able to visually see the items and remove them before deleting the character (which I tried doing after the overhaul but as I said before, it doesn’t show the town clothes, nor were they taken out and placed into your inventory or mailed to you).

Having to go through the vendor to get the skin versions of former town clothes was an extremely poor decision imo. You should have been able to get them through the Black Lion Trading Company, since it keeps a record of your transactions and town clothes could only be bought through the gem store anyways, or mailed to you (or at least some kind of notice about the wardrobe overhaul). I like the change, I just think the transition between the two systems was handled poorly, especially for people returning to the game.

I’m just starting this topic because I would love to see the inclusion of the Endless Riding Clothes Tonic to either be re introduced as an outfit or a medium armor skin.
Reasons for medium armor skin; most medium armor skins are in the form of trench coats, which tends to go with the theme that rangers and engineers are included, leaving the thief out of the loop. Now, the Riding Tonics is not particularily an appearance that thieves would catch on, it does however separate the physical similarities between those who wear trench coats and those who don’t.
Reasons for tonic; I’m sure many players would use this outfit on any number of their characters, such as they do with the ancestral outfit.

Hello, I recently crafted several pieces of Zojja’s Ascended heavy armor, and I want to put my current runes (Hoelbrak) on my new ascended pieces. However, the runes are stuck on my exotic set of armor that I purchased from the WvW armor vendor via gold and Badges of Honor. My plan was to salvage the exotic set with a black lion salvage kit and apply to the runes to my new set of ascended armor, but, alas, it is not meant to be.
I understand that, for whatever reason, ArenaNet is not comfortable with allowing players to use Badges of Honor as a way of making money [Purchasing armor through the WvW vendor with smaller amounts of gold (than their counterparts on the trading post) and some badges that the players earned through WvW participation] and then salvaging it to sell the materials they receive. But with the old transmutation stone/crystal system, would this rune transition not have been possible? I have been unable to overcome this obstacle through any reasonable means, if anyone has any suggestions on how to solve it, please let me know. I have edited an image to further explain my problem and how I feel.

I hope that this problem can be addressed evenly, or even better the Wardrobe System can be amended, but I feel that there is little that can be done, and that really bums me out, man.

They did this so they would sell more of the upgrade extractor, available on the gemstore. But it’s still more cost effective to buy new runes, since the extractor is a one-time use item.

Before the wardrobe was introduced, I saved armor/clothes items that I liked in my bank so I could swap them on and off of a character to see which one I liked best after playing with it for a while. I thought that with the ability to reskin things I would free up inventory space and have more flexibility.

Honestly, I feel like I have less, and I’ve pretty much abandoned concentrating on how my character looks. I’m not going to pay transmutation charges to wear some armor skin for a few hours to decide if I like it or not, and then have to pay another set of charges to switch to another and play for a while and see if I like that one. It’s too expensive and wasteful in my opinion.

The wardrobe is a great idea, but the transmutation charge requirement just depletes all the fun out of it for me. It’s not a carefree decision anymore. Just another thing I have to rudiment over so I don’t make the wrong choice because I have to pay for that wrong choice.

I read a suggestion that some people had for having free reskins for lower level characters and have the reskin cost transmutation charges for level 80 characters instead. It think that would be a lot better because then I could mess around with lower level characters and see what skins I actually like best before committing to one on my level 80.

This is also the major reason I don’t buy gem store costumes. I’m not going to buy a skin with my real money to have to either use it forever (meaning no reason to buy another one), or pay to reskin it? That’s ridiculous.

As it stands now I just ignore the wardrobe feature and most of the skins because there is basically no “try out” period.

I don’t understand what this post means. This functions exactly as it did before (though there’s a slight increase in the price of transmuting before level 80, and a slight decrease in price after 80, as a sort of happy medium) the change, but now you unlock skins that can be transmuted whenever you want, on as many characters as you want. What “try out” period?

I’m not sure how much development time it would take to do this, but why not have a Town Clothes wardrobe? It could function similarly to the equipment wardrobe, only with a different pool of cosmetic items, and swapping costs 0 charges.

So I guess that would add two tabs to the Hero Panel: Town Wardrobe and Town Dyes. Proof of concept exists already, it’s just a matter of making it work.

Sadly, that’s mostly a benefit to a small and put-upon RP community, but that’s a topic for another thread.

Three new outfits does not a trend make. Just because the latest skin was an outfit doesn’t mean they will never release a new armor skin set. Please remove tin foil hat and toss in trash bin.

So this was supposed to bring about new customizing ability to the loyal fanbase of GW2? Think again, Anet.

I know I’m not the only one who feels this way but let’s start off with the fact that as of the moment you do NOT appear to be able to dye your town clothes. Yesterday when I logged out I had a lovely pink and white set up for my little girly Asura in her default town clothes that you get upon starting the game. Today when I logged in, her outfit was turned into a tonic that is PERMANENTLY stuck on black and red! No. I don’t want to be black and red. I want to be pink and white.

One of the things I enjoyed about this game and looked forward to for this coming patch was the ability to play dress up with my characters. I do NOT want to be told “lol, no you can’t dye those clothes anymore because they’re tonics! Trolololo!” This goes for the “retired” clothes as well like the blouses and the hoodies and the short shorts.

Speaking of which, I used to run with a hoodie and shorts on my other Asura and I felt pretty grease monkeyish in it and loved it thoroughly. When I hop onto that character am I going to find out to my horror that I can no longer mix and match these two things because “LOL TONICS!!”?!

You boasted being able to stand out in the crowd, Anet. You said we’d be able to make amazing combinations to suit our cosmetic appetites. You were /wrong/. And after reading a lot of public chat in Divinity’s Reach, a good number of your players are outraged.

Yes, I am angry right now, yes I will calm down, but there’s also talk of people who are going to quit the game because they won’t be getting their gems back for outfits they bought in multiples that now is turning out to be wasted money. How, in the name of all that is holy, could you have ever thought this was a good idea?

I’m sure there are just as many who disagree with me and don’t mind the changes, which is fine. To each their own, right? But the people who care about how their character looks during, oh.. say.. role play? Photo shoots? This is a terrible oversight and feels outright lazy and neglectful. Especially since the town clothing, even if you’re okay with not being able to dye it, has a 15 minute timer. “Whoops, I suddenly appear to be in armor. Let’s break immersion while I quickly reactivate my tonic!”

This rant is done for now. Feel free to agree or disagree, but I primarily hope any responses to this topic will be about your feelings as a player about the change and not about my ranting.

I was very disappointed with this too, I liked having my norn in her town garb, or just the top and upper leg showing anyway but thanks to this brilliant new system I can’t pick and choose what appears OR what colours either, was half excited when the npc said you can convert town clothes to something usable but really didn’t want it to be like this either….

I don’t know how you count, but I count 10 outfits so far. And that are 10 outfits too much. And I know of atleast one more outfit that’s being developed.

Just have two versions of the outfits. One…well outfit like it is AND one skin pack neatly cut up to pieces, people who like the full look can have their costumes, slap their colours on and be happy, especially for leveling a costume can help make yourself a pretty looking char (cause these outfits ARE amazing and well designed), and people who want only parts of it to mix with their other favourite armor pieces to make something more “unique” can get the skin pack. Issue fixed.. all are happy…or would be. I for example would LOVE to have the bloody prince facepaint and parts of the cook outfit seperate. Same for the town clothes tonics while we are at it… it isnt like i bought them or something.. now i cant even colour them. Add a gem store item for all i care that transmutes town cloth tonics to armor skins or something lol.

I think the wardrobe was an inspired idea. And it makes sense that the options to personalize the Guild Wars 2 experience are collocated. But…it doesn’t make sense to me that those options are also tied to the equip mechanic.

Swapping out gear it part of gameplay, and the wardrobe has messed me up a couple of times as I tried to do that. Consider separating equipment from the wardrobe? I can’t think of a downside, and you’ll be making our lives easier.

Just skimmed the patch note about all the upcoming changes and all of that…

Curious, but did they ever fix the town clothes nerf from the April 15th patch? You know, the one where they converted the cash purchased town clothes into non-dyeable 15-minute potions that only look like 1/4th of the original piece of clothing.

They seem to have all these new in-game idea’s to bring back players and get them to spend money, but are they still overlooking this one? My wife and I have been boycotting the online store since April 15th. We swore not to buy anymore stuff here until they fix their bait & switch scam, which will probably turn out to be forever.

I would really like to see my feet on the wardrobe preview again, please. Having the ankle down not visible at all makes it hard to make wardrobe changes to the shoes. This is also an issue on the dying panel, not sure how much of one it is on the equipment one, however – didn’t really go D= at that one for lack of feet.

Though part of me wonders is it just a bug because of the newly put in Miniatures option? Because when you select one your character gets “tiny” and feet go away.

Yeah, the feet thing needs fixing for sure. And is it really unreasonable to ask for our town clothes as skins and/or outfits?

sigh I get changing the rewards for story completion for the future, but was it really necessary to change the level requirements on equipped items?

It was super uncool to log into a lower level character tonight and discover she was standing there in her bra and bare handed because her coat and gloves had abruptly out-leveled her. It was not a lot of fun to have to pay for a waypoint to a place where I could buy gear and then pay to replace items I’d already earned playing my story, especially since I was doing the walk of shame with a very obviously partially unclothed character.

Another character was no longer able to equip her active weapon and happened to be parked in a combat zone, which made replacing the gear even less fun.

Not a very happy player tonight. :-(

They really need to put back the instant swap function. Even WoW lets you change between appearances quickly, but GW2 can’t? Did they even bother with any use cases of what actual players want to do when building this idiotic “wardrobe” function?

Bring back Stalwart and Tribal armors to pve ASAP pls.
People see them in wardrobe and have no chances to get those
and they look so good.

Would even buy it in gemstore.
