Well, on a brighter note, the price of charges is at least reasonable.

Not IMHO, ppl will be using charges a lot more than they used stones or crystals, therefore the price should have been significantly lower than even stones. They will make more money from these sales, gouging us in the process.

I hadn’t thought of that. Why do you suppose they’d use them ‘more’? I don’t envision using them more, well, at least at 80.

Leveling up, that’s a different story, and I noted that. That part is still a pinch, since we used to get 3 stones per zone clear and that was useful on lower level gear. I figured I’d easily clear 2 zones for 10 levels, that gave me 6 I could use for armor (and I usually just did chest, legs, boots since I hide everything else) upgrades. Yes, that will get pinched, and it’ll be more expensive to keep up while leveling, I did mention that.

I guess it’s at least better that they are priced that much closer to stones than crystals. It wish we were given them for clearing zones still. Even 2 per zone would have been a nice compromise. From what I hear it’s 1, and it’s still not entirely clear whether that is only for clearing the major cities or all zones.

Eh, after a few weeks of being nasty, I was just excited there was at least a small diamond in the rough.

Let us preview all existing armor pieces, but give us the ability to use charges only on unlocked ones please.
The new dyeing preview is a cool addition, but we can’t use it on the old (but revamped) pvp locker system that you moved into the bank.

I may be stupid, but if I convert my original town clothes to an endless tonic, why do I need 3 of them? If an endless tonic is endless, why won’t 1 be enough?

I’m very displeased with the outfit system, i have never been interested in wearing full outfits, i always customize every one of my outfits with mixes from different outfits, and was pretty fond of them.
So in short, with the system as it is, i will likely never buy clothing on the gem store anymore.
The rest of the patch seems fine to me so far, though.

Yeah, I’m reading about the disappointment in the town clothes/outfit being un-mixable. I too am disappointed at this. I had my Pirate Outfit mixed with a few other things and really liked it on my female character. Unfortunately now, with the bulky shoes and the (for the lack of a better word) ugly hat, I don’t want to wear it.

Will we be able to mix and match at all in the future? This is highly upsetting.

It seems many are having issues, and many have lost their previously purchased town clothes from the gem store. I for one no longer have my witches outfit I had bought on halloween the first time it was in the cash shop. Will this be remedied or are out store purchases gone forever now?

Really REALLY not liking the tonic thing. Now, instead of wearing my GW2 shirt with the floofy skirt in town, I’m wearing generic brown booty-skort things that I can’t dye, a thigh holster, and my weapons. My Common Clothing is black and red, not my usual purples and blues.

And now they take up inventory space, so instead of being able to just toggle town clothes with H when I get into town, I’ll have to go to a bank, pull them into inventory, click them, then go thought that in reverse to go back out into the fray

Add in the lack of mix and match for outfits, and the set up for non-armor wear now is downright miserable.

I have to say I had read all the advance information and was really looking forward to the wardrobe upgrade, but it is nothing like I was led to believe. I can’t make heads or tails out of it! I don’t even recognize half of these “skins” in my wardrobe. Where did they come from? Do I need to use a transmutation charge to activate one? What do I do with the one Transmutation Stone I still have? Is it useless now? In Equipment, “Gathering Tools” only displays the sickles I’m carrying in inventory, not the picks or logging axes. “Weapons” only displays one of two I am carrying in inventory. Town clothes into undyable endless tonics? So now something that was stored for free and was fun and playful requires an inventory slot and has no flexibility – all amusement was removed? Maybe I’ll just take a month off and then come back to see where we are with all this foolishness.

Stick to the plan AND Go with the flow.

Was that outfit on somebody? If so, it is still technically in the town clothes slot and needs to be retrieved from a BL Armor trader. I had a jolly time this evening going through my alts trying to remember who had my Devil Horns. Not sure if there is a way of discovering who has what before going to the armor guy.

Hopefully that is what it is. if not, then yeah, bugged out, but thought I’d throw this in in case.

I’ve been heavily affected by this change in a very negative manner.

First off, I bought different pieces of the gem store sets to mix and match together and even dye them in different combinations. I used the default town clothes along with the designer hoodies with an awesome dye mix that added a personal flavor to my character. Having the tonics give you the default look with the entire set just kills any idea of creativity and freedom in using them.

Second, I’m a roleplayer on Tarnished Coast and I use town clothes everywhere. I don’t want to look like a bomber pilot with dark muddy dyes while roleplaying in the cities or out in the world. Just because I love the top and bought the top for that set does not mean I want to wear the entire complete set. I want my UNIQUE look in the world.

I’ve talked with friends who are equally disappointed with this change. I really don’t understand why it can’t be implemented in this feature patch with the new wardrobe system, which is excellent.

Please Anet, give us back our CREATIVITY! And if not, I want my gems back! Thanks.

I came here to agree with many of my fellow players and I’m not going to repeat what it’s been said about the town clothes system and/or wardrobe.
I came here to add another thing that caught me off guard (besides the gem town clothes stuff).

I have the title “The Emperor”, which means that I purchased every cultured armor from every tier and every race.
Don’t know if there’s others like me but after paying the almost 650g of armor, I disposed most of it, since I had no space to just hold on to an armor pieces.

Now with this new update, not only it comes with the wardrobe stuff, there’s also an achievement with said clothes.
Do I have to purchase the armor pieces again? Is there any plan to add the pieces to your wardrobe if you have the title?

With this said plus what has been said before, I’ll be waiting for new information and hopefully good news with a new patch.

I hope they make it so it’s auto unlock. But I lost too much faith with this update already.

I’m just going to say that I didn’t have a great emotional investment in the few town clothes I’ve bought (all for one character) but I’ve just converted them to tonics and they don’t look too bad. I do feel for the players that use them as a large part of their game, though.

I don’t have any problems with the rest of the update, and thank you very much for the armour sunnies!

Yeah, at the end of the day, the wardrobe change is more or less fine (though I have some small grievances about the availability of charges through map completion and altaholics wanting to wear one transmuted ‘set’ all the way to 80).

The clothing system is silly. I don’t really see a reason why they couldn’t have introduced outfits as a new thing that allows you to wear them in combat, but still keep the old clothing system.

On the one hand, it would be this left over mechanic they’d never make any new assets for. It would allow me to wear the shorts, top and boots combo I liked, but they’d never make any new pieces. What would be the motivation?

Their idea of what should go with the khaki shorts is really an ominous premonition, I think, of what is to come. They will never make a full outfit that would be of any interest to me.

Well…actually…you know what would be a great outfit? The female armor repair humans out in Queensdale. Have you seen them? They are in these black…overalls, I guess, with white shirts? I always thought that’d be a nice outfit.

But yeah, you’d never see anything like this come from them.

In the case of the town clothes ones, like the celebration cap, and others that were equipped on your characters, they haven’t gone, but are just invisible, as they are still in the town clothes slot, but that can no longer be seen. Need to go to the Black Lion Armour guys and speak to them to get them back. Good luck clothes hunting.

I swear, if it isn’t big sweeping changes that remove our choice and creativity (for reasons passing understanding), or Anet seemingly want to brush aside these concerns (haven’t heard any peep about the concerns for days, and even before then the substance of what was said amounted to sweet fanny’s apples), then it is some niggling little oversight like this.

I’m just going to add my voice to everyone else’s here on disapproving of the new changes to town clothes. Fable (thanks for the elaboration in that post of yours…pay attention here Anet), DonQuack, pho, Factotum, Johnny Rotten, pretty much all my friends (RPrs and most of the RP community…a large portion of the fanbase), and a ton of other forum posters are just complaining about this. Not being able to dye townclothes is just ridiculous. Not being able to mix and match (I just like using wintersday boots and leggings with silk brocade top as an example) is…not fun, and really not preferable; is it that hard just to be able to break the tonic/set up and allow -us- to combine it into a tonic/set if we so please?

Change the town clothes back to the way they were. It was much nicer to be able to mix and match outfits and color them with the dyes. This is really disappointing not to mention confusing.

What a convoluted process it was to search around online to find out that I had to go see some NPC and then follow (cryptic and unhelpful) instructions on how to change my town clothes into a nonsensical mishmash of potions and consumable items. Did no one at Arenanet realize that this was a bad idea before implementing it? I mean, I STILL don’t know what the consumable clothing items do. They’re only single use so I don’t want to mess around testing to try to find out.

Change this stuff back. The wardrobe which stores the different item looks is fine. It could definitely use interface tweaks because it doesn’t seem to work right, but it’s fine. Please change the town clothes back or add them to a town clothes wardrobe that can be freely mixed, matched and dyed without cost.

Discussed how? There was a lot of information that they were going to do this. There isn’t a single person playing the game who likes it better this way, but they did at least give us warning.

I’m more concerned with things not working. Mainly that I didn’t get the 5 free charges they promised, nor did any of the skins that were in my PvP locker unlock when I went to the Heart of the Mists. So now I only have the skins that happened to be worn by my characters. I’ve put in a ticket about it, but who knows what they can even do, if anything. I didn’t even get tonics for any of my townclothes, including some of my old unique hats.

You claim your free charges from the Trading Post, much as any of their giveaways of late.

Well, I definitely feel moderately better now. I got my useless tonics, and it seems my hats are skin unlocks, which is great, but I still have all my PvP skins missing, even after going to the Mists for them. Hopefully customer support can help.
Did you turn it off and back on? No…

It all works now, so I guess I no longer have any major complaints.

I still don’t like the conversion rate of transmutes to charges, but whatever I guess.

Could you please notify players on how to unlock gear skins, maybe through mail? I was about to salvage rares because I thought that was the only way to unlock skins, then I right clicked a rare and found out there was an option to unlock the skin (making the item account bound in the process).

how can i use my skin on my wardrobe where it only says preview? i also used those 5 free transmutation stones and nothing happened… huhu

is the legendary sharing only or the skin working>? help!

Using the old transmutation stones and crystals unlocks Transmutation Charges which are in the wardrobe UI. When you buy Transmutation Charges, you have to use the item up in order for it to unlock on your account (which seems a bit clunky), so those 5 free ones you got are now available on your account in the wardrobe UI.

Legendary weapons are account bound now, so you can un-equip it from one character and equip it on another if you want the Ascended, stat swapping ability. Also, the skin is unlocked in your wardrobe so you can apply it to any other weapon of the same type for the cost of one transmutation charge.

Not sure what your first sentence means.

I think ANET should just remove this whole “CHARGING” system all together…all this seems to be is one big TROLL on their part.

I believe we should be able to change the way our characters look on the fly, just like we can with traits. Its not right that we spend so much time working on getting new armor/skins to then be charged to change the way it looks…I barely used the stones before the April update to begin with, but the way they are doing it now is just an outright scam.

So come on ANET…show us some love for a “REAL” change, you get enough of our money on games sales and exclusives from the black lion trading company…MAKE SKIN CHANGES FREE!!!!!

By the way, what has happened to my character’s “personality”? You know, honorable or unpredictable or so on? Where did that go?

That was a Roleplaying element and as such had to be removed along with the Town Clothes system.

So, my sister and I have taken a look at what has been done with the update. We’ve discussed this at length, and have some thoughts, and suggestions. ArenaNet’s done a lot of good things with this update, so I felt it was best not to be upset. But, anyway, here’s our thoughts.

The outfit dyes? Not a good idea. My sister had a civilian outfit she wore more times than not when she was running around in a non-combat area. (Glasses + Blossom Top + Khaki Pants + Riding Boots + Witch Gloves). These were all dyed to her specifications. Me, I went for dress pants, a purchased shirt, and kept things simple, but dyed them. Neither of these outfits are possible now in this update. Honestly, this is pretty upsetting.

With the layout currently for weapon and armour skins, I don’t see why civilian clothing can’t be used the same way. Have a civilian wardrobe tab, and let the players put things into these tabs (as owned skins), which they can then select to wear on the character. It would free up inventory space (which these potions do not), and would allow players to mix and match the different parts of a costume, then dye them to their heart’s content.

The current update has freed up a lot of inventory and bank space (no more needing to store three different suits of armour just for the skins) – I think doing something similar specifically for ‘civilian wardrobe’ wouldn’t hurt at all.

As an aside – the one thing that’s perhaps a bit upsetting about the armour skins is if you want to make more than one ‘outfit’ for different occasions. Spending 6 transmutation charges just to look a little different is… let’s say “annoying”. I think it might be… kinder… to say if you’ve spent a transmutation on a skin for your current armour, you don’t need to spend again to return to that skin.

So, for example, if I have a Winged chest piece, and I spend a transmutation stone to access light zodiac. for the chest piece, I can swap between winged and zodiac for that piece of armour without spending a transmutation charge. If I get an armour upgrade (or just a different piece of armour), I’d have to spend the transmutation charges to access winged and zodiac for that specific piece – but to revert to the base skin that particular piece had would be free, and once I’ve paid, I could use those three skins without using charges again.

It would allow people to have the skins available, but be allowed to switch through different looks for special occasions without blowing through a bunch of charges.

Anyway – thank you for your hard work. I hope these suggestions might help in the future.

These changes pretty much remove weapon and armour skin customization from the game for my playstyle. I can’t bring myself to waste transmutation charges on gear that will be replaced, and I never stick with a character for long enough to get to end-game gear. As visual customization is a very important part of an MMO for me, I guess I’ll be going elsewhere, ‘cause it just ain’t here any more.
