Game of the year!
Congratulations!!
yeah…congratulations.
Congratulations Arena Net! Keep up the good work everyone.
This means the world wont end this year afterall.
Anet saved the world by pleasing the gods.
Grats A.NET! hopefully you bag the IGN too.
(edit: any official links from Game Informer?)
Congrats Anet for developing and bringing us a great game. Now lets polish this gem by getting those bugs fixed
Sorry alcopaul, I get the paper mag version of GI. In order to do their issue via their website I have to unsubscribe for the mail version and convert to digital and I’m one of the ppl out there who insist on having a hard copy of my games/mags ect. But it is on page 54 in the top 50 games of 2012 section of the issue. You can pick up free copies of the mag at Game Stop.
“Best MMO”
“Many players’ hopes for the next generation of MMOs were riding on Guild Wars 2’s August launch, and ArenaNet’s fantastic MMORPG delivers on almost all fronts. Dynamic events are an immeasureable improvement on genre-standard static quests, the action-oriented combat allows far more skill and strategy to every battle, and player-driven endgame many have dreamed of since Dark Age of Camelot. The small matter of not charging a subscription fee doesn’t hurt Guild Wars 2’s legacy one bit, either.” – Game Informer Web Edition.
I could nitpick at the action oriented part and the “player-driven endgame,” but I do agree that it is definitely the best MMO of our time. Still a lot of work to be done though, but keep it up Anet.
Congrats Anet.

Congratulations Anet.
InB4 the poisonous users destroy this thread with their bickering completely (As since it’s already started).
Congratulations Anet. Taking the MMO world in another direction. Took some risk removing the holy trinity and doing away with the normal questing system, but came away with a great game, that I will be playing for many years.

Attaboy Anet! Keep up the good work, can’t wait to see how GW2 will mature over time hopefully in a positive way.
Mmo of the year, yes.
Game of the year, not even close.
and player-driven endgame many have dreamed of since Dark Age of Camelot
…lmao.
Exactly what was it competing with for MMO of the year? Secret World?
Where is the link?

I think that’s specifically referring to WvW. DAoC also had a similar feature.
Congratulations! A well deserved honor, I think, for creating a new kind of MMO that will live for years to come. Good job.

I played DAoC for about 5 years.
And no, comparing WvW to RvR is insulting, the similarities end at sieges.
Oh yea my bad, GI named it MMO of the year,..however a bigger and wider reaching publication called TIME magazine did name it “Game of the year”.

Apparently, Gamespot just named GW2 the “RPG of the year,” so that’s another one that can be added to the list.

World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria (expansions usually count as new games)
TERA
The Secret World
Star Wars: The Old Republic (was released in 2011 but after most GotY awards so technically it’s considered a 2012 game as far as awards go)
Congratulations Anet!! Keep up the awesome work You have our support.
Whether or not they count Expansions as new games (for GoTY purposes) usually depends on the award giver. I’ve seen it done both ways.
The difference being this year has 3 MMO expansions that all came out within weeks of each other (WoW: Mists of Pandaria, LoTRO: Riders of Rohan and Rift: Storm Legion). All 3 expansions also have their own unique/noteworthy feature:
— WoW – Pet Battling (aka Pokemon) System
— LoTRO – Mounted Combat
— Rift – Dimension Housing System

I highly doubt this game would come up as MMO of the year if compared to WoW. It’s not a bad game but it has the same sort of content except less polish.
Only benefits I can see for this game is its more solo friendly and no monthly fee.
Gratz. Adore this game even though it has it’s flaws. Been sticking around to see if the bugs get fixed and there is more balancing. I have faith still, even though most don’t.
Congrats ArenaNet, well deserved.
Congrats to Anet, I concur that this IS the MMO I have been waiting for to get me out of the other sub based monster that has held me for so long (not bashing it, I loved almost every minute of it, it’s just old now and pressing 2 2 2 3 2 2 2 4 to win a boss fight is stale and boring).
I moved away from being a hard core raiding player to a more casual player and GW2 allows me to go at my own pace and rewards me for exploring every nook and cranny. I love the combat, I love that it takes some skill to play and avoid damage. To me, the whole system is brilliant in it’s complex simplicity.
It doesn’t hurt that the game is absolutely gorgeous and doesn’t require me to validate my enjoyment per dollar spent on a monthly subscription.
