Game still active enough to buy?
If you don’t mind false / misleading information and slack content. Sure.
Its a lot more active then say all the mmorpg game that have come out in 2012 to 2013 if that that your asking. There a lot of talk that the 2014 games are going to fail too but that just seem how gamers are any thing that coming out in that year will fail and every thing that come out the year before has failed and things that are coming out 2 years down the rode or more will changes every thing.
Yes GW2 is still very active at all points WvW activeness tends to be related to the world. Most pve is playable on any world so there will always be some one to play with. As for spvp its a bit more active on some worlds then others but i am not comply informed on it i do not spvp often.
Guild : OBEY (The Legacy) I call it Obay , TLC (WvW) , UNIV (other)
Server : FA
It takes me about 10 – 15 minutes to get into a Solo Queue match, which in my opinion, is way too long (in the Guild Wars 1 days, it often took less than 30 seconds to get into a Random Arenas match).

If you choose one of the three top tier servers then you will get to see people. If you choose a server other than the top ones, be prepared to play alone for 99% of the game.
Some servers are very active on the PvE side. I wouldn’t ever advise buying this game for its SPvP, it is almost completely dead. I’ve heard WvW is active, but couldn’t confirm that myself.
I also heard that GW2 broke 700 viewers on Twitch recently. Not sure that has happened since the pax event.

It’s not even close in terms of active players to FF XIV
Yes, the game is still active, and in my opinion, yes, it’s worth buying.
Just stay away from these forums. They’re quite likely to have you believing the game is dying/thriving, and that there are more/less people than there ever has been, and that people love it/hate it and that Anet cares/doesn’t care about its player base.
In other words, only you can tell f you’ll like it or not. Don’t let other people tell you it’s worth/not worth playing.
sPvP is in a bad state. Very few players. And only a single game mode.
the problem is that companies always like to split their games into many different servers and by doing so, they make the population seem sparse. that’s where all the problem starts and new players come into the new zone and it’s a dead land and they start to form their own opinions.
they should seriously consider getting rid of servers and use progressive filling of zones instead. that should bring by the hustle and bustle spirit when gw2 just launched.
Do not buy this game. It has aged badly. Wait until a trial longer than a week is available. If you made a mistake and bought it, ask for refund immediately.
The game is active, there is plenty of people in there but aim for the very high populated servers so you will have a lot of people to play with.
IMO Yes it’s worth buying, and there’s no subscription fees after that.
If you happen to be playing on Oceanic timezone, do look me up!
Happy gaming!

Im not sure at what hours you play. But im quite certain its way shorter for both eu and US.
Queuetimes typically vary from instant pop to 2-3 minutes. In some rare occasions during offhours it can take 10 minute but thats really rare. In 99.9% of the cases my soloq pops during the hotjoin match i joined to fill the time while waiting in queue.
Quite comparable to wow arena queues for example.

I’d mainly be playing to Soloq pvp not sure what queue times are like etc
As a regular solo q player, I can definitely say that the queue times are quite horrendous right now; it takes roughly about a 1-5 minutes to have a game start during the first 1-4 hours after daily reset, and then it goes downhill after that…
For example, it usually takes a minimum of 30 minutes to find a solo q tourny when queuing 13 hours after daily reset.
The upside of GW2 pvp is that it requires no grind to participate (although this is the complete opposite in the game’s pve aspect right now); you can create a character, finish the first personal story (extremely fast), then enter the sPVP area without having to gear yourself up.
However, like what some of the previous posters have mentioned, GW2’s sPVP is heavily monotonous and lacks build diversity in the current meta; Conquest mode is the only format available, and only about 1-2 working builds per class exists in competitive PVP (solo q or team q) at any given time/class “balancing” patches.
I’d highly recommend trying the PVP yourself through a trial version of the game first (if such a thing is available). You never know whether or not you’d enjoy the experience despite the obvious issues that sPVP currently has.
I’m a bit confused by the title of this thread. You must have an account (i.e. have already purchased and registered the game) to post in the forums. Are you asking if you should buy a second account?
As for PvP, there is an informative stream on Twitch which outlines the different game modes coming. It shows some of the new maps, as well. You might find it interesting.

He says that he’s been too busy to play it after he bought it, misleading title yeah.
Anyways, if your aim would be to focus on ‘sPvP’, then it’s not really worth it, to be honest.
That’s about all the detail you need really.

This might be a bit of a US thing due to the timing of the reset to be honest. For me its like this 16.00 – 0.00 are regular hours with short queuetimes (1-5 minutes). 1.00 at night the daily resets for us, so it basicly prolongues peak/busy hours.
During the limited number of soloqueue games i played (150ish in total) ive never seen a queuetime of more then 10 minutes. Ever. And i play till deep in the night even on working days at times.
I dont play in the morning tho.

Not really fair to compare a 15 month game to a ‘fresh’ release.
OT; if you pick a good server, yes. IMHO more could be done to help the population circulate particularly for dungeons but really I think it’s active enough to be enjoyable.
You have the game, give it a try. If you want others to make up your mind for you just stay on the forums.
IMO there’s far far too many problems they have yet to address, sure you’ll have fun leveling but once you reach max you will be highly disappointed unless you like Korean grind games.

I take it that your EU then? That might explain differences in queue times. However, it is without a doubt that solo q wait time gets progressively worse (reaching that 30 minute wait eventually) here in NA.
I’ve soloqued countless times, being part of the leaderboards as well as earning 4 of the champion class associated titles through solo q (or structured “hotjoin” when they abolished tourny tickets) and team q (before tickets were abolished), and ever since I’ve participated in structured PVP it has always been the case that these wait times have been a bane for me and some of my friends/guildmates who do spvp.
It has arguably gotten “better” ever since hotjoin/tourny tickets were abolished since one does not have to waste time anymore forming teams to play tourny, but it’s still pretty wretched when you hit that 10-30 minute (or worse, according to some of my guildmates who’ve seen longer wait periods than what I’ve seen) waiting time when you go past 4 hour daily reset here in NA.
Maybe I’ll make a screenshot of a long wait period later.

Obviously trolling. I never had that much waiting time. It’s also 30 seconds, and in the few worst cases, at most 3 minutes.
In all honesty? Of course it’s still worth buying. You will get significantly more play time out of this game than you would a single player game on console, for example.
Even if you play this for 100 hours, that’s more than your average RPG/Single player, non-multi-player game.
Most of the players talking smack in this thread probably have at least 1,000 hours on the game themselves. I hate PvE, I hate LS, personal story is a snore…. but between WvW, sPvP and a few other niche activities… there’s enough. Not sure why complaining.

There is actually very little “smack talk” in this thread, which is pleasant for a change.
However, the OP specifically mentions sPvP, and it really isn’t all that great in its current shape.

The game is still very active, and qeue times are anywhere from instant qeue to 5 mins maximum. Anybody who is saying 15-30 mins is either full of it or waited in a broken qeue.
I enjoy this game, as do many others. I suggest buying it.

I have more then 350 ranked soloque matches (EU server) and haven’t seen que times longer then 6 minutes.. on average I’d say que times are between 2 and 3 minutes.
During peak hours I’m guessing que times are around 1 minute on average.
You might want to check out teamq as well. Wait times can be up to twice as long, but rewards are quite enticing with ~1200 rank points per win, nice sum of cash and gifts (more cash).
As far as overall population goes, it is allot better then it was few months after release, but it is still ailing.
Check the date of OP right top. For crying out loud,Necromancers… This body ain’t fresh.
It’s kind of funny that the OP’s name in this thread that got necroed is Bump.
