Yes, that’s right, it’s the only explanation. I had survived equivalent to 200lvls with 0 deaths, was doing Malcor Leap. Had 75% done, all of the most difficult sp, vistas etc and 82% world completion.

Then i got to do the last SP, which i have always found relatively easy in the past. The SP in question is just east of Doric’s WP, just b4 u enter cursed shore, in Karst Plateau.

I was aware that a champ risen knight sometimes lurks in the area so i scouted the place and saw him hovering above several NPC’s he had killed some distance away. He wasn’t within SP aggro range, so i thought i was safe from him.

I see a Vet risen guarding the sp, kill him, go to commune and right in the middle of it, this champ risen knight appears from nowhere right above me and basically 1 shots me while i was communing. Now that is lame!

I’m so mad to be killed off like that. I didn’t die coz of my carelessness but bc the game decided I had lived too long and used a trick to kill me off. Thanks a lot Anet.

PS. here’s the funny thing. after dying i went back to do the sp and same thing happened, only this time the champ didn’t attack me at all. I guess he was happy with himself, he achieved what he set out to do….remove my 0 death count, grrrr!

Yup, that champ always acts like that. Had to use pets to keep aggro on him on both my ranger and necro, while I had to get a group to kill it on my warrior and engineer. I think it’s pretty neat to have champs guarding certain points, but then again I was quite a bit over zero deaths

The only way a player can go that long with zero deaths. Is for that player to take no chances. You probably missed out on SO much loot by not tagging enemies fast in events.

How can you continue playing when you know you should be dead?

If you look at the mini map, you can clearly see the champion, as it is event-related. Also its role is to guard that SP. I conclude this though I have only 3 chars with that skill point, so I may be wrong, but everytime I went there, he was too. It’s not like it’s a surprise.

I think you really want to party up with a friend, so he can distract the champion for you. That’s the safest way to stay at 0 deaths.

Creatures spawning on top of you are part and parcel of MMOs (unfortunately). Sucks to have lost it on a spawn, but it’s part of the draw. It happens to everyone sooner or later.

well not sure seeing that death count has made me feel better lol. i don’t think any of my toons have hit more than 500 deaths and that’s probably my main and i have been playing since head start.

It just shows you how easily you die in this game. I don’t really understand what pleasure game devs derive from player deaths. They seem to gravitate toward designing games where players can die so easily, its kinda unnerving tbh.

Well, it was your carelessness. If you had dodged when you saw it pop, you wouldn’t have died. If you didn’t see it spawn, you should have been paying attention.

I must agree with the op with some of it, one shot kill mechanics = lame as..

This particular champion patrols the area around the Skill Point by teleporting from patrol point to patrol point.

And then he oneshots who he finds :p

how did he one shot you? he doesn’t do that much damage, especially since he’ll drop down and use that fire shield first.
you could just ask for a thief to help you and drop a shadow refuge, the champion will still teleport there while your stealthed but he won’t hit you.

maybe you should run a more defense oriented build if you’re trying for no deaths.

I’ve been one shotted by that prick on various different classes. Warrior, Ranger, Thief. He doesn’t always use his fire shield first, though perhaps that mechanic has changed. When I’ve died, it’s been because I got in the way when he drops down and strafes the ground with multiple burning AoE spots. That usually results in an instant down and roast, even if people are there to try and rez you, they end up downed themselves.

I figured, i’ll push this as far as i can. ideally, i would have liked to have gotten 100% world but 82% is pretty good in my view. I just feel disappointed it happened the way it did.

People say that champ pops up at the skill point all the time, but i’ve done 100% on 8 chars and i’ve never seen that b4. So perhaps things have been changed since i did it last which was quite a few months ago now.

It does not always use the shield first, sometimes it starts off with the fire path thing. This happened to me just last night. I assumed I could continue tapping the RMN in the ruined building while it used the shield. I was mistaken.

I don’t think there was any “tricks” involved. I think you just weren’t paying attention to your surroundings.

But it sounds like you like “hard mode” content. If you need a challenge, you can try the new Queen’s Gauntlet! It’s a more pure test of your skills. Why? Because you can get enough XP to be equivalent to a lv 200 with no deaths through safe means. It’s not hard to farm mobs in zergs, and run away before the zerg wipes. But you must use skills to beat the Queen’s Gauntlet. Give it a try!

tnx Wayne and cafard i can’t do that! i spent too much money on gearing her up and she has full set of perma gathering tools too! no way lol will i delete her. and btw have u deleted all ur chars that have died, like even once?

So this Champion ‘one-shots’ you say?

I wonder how true that is. Have to go try tanking it on my mesmer :-P
