Gem Cards Unavailable in Stores?
Just checked amazon, the gem cards are listed but they are ‘currently unavailable’.
My local Best Buy – I don’t know if they’re the retailer referred to in the OP – had lots of gem cards of both denominations ($15 and $25) when I went by there the other day. They weren’t on a discount, though – full price.
I’ve seen them at both Best Buy and Target recently. And I’d guess GameStop would also probably have them due to being a dedicated game store.
Wal Mart used to carry them, but I haven’t seen them there in ages. At least not either of the 2 I go to frequently.
It does seem somewhat individual store-dependent, though. My local Target doesn’t carry them any more, but a Target I went to a little further out the other day had them.
I’ve never seen them on sale before, so I can’t speak to sales specifically.

Not on any of the following web sites… Target, Walmart, GameStop. None of those stores carry them any longer according to the people I spoke with when I inquired.
Best Buy does have some at full price as you mentioned. Last year, Best Buy, Target, and Walmart all had them on sale. Best Buy’s sale lasted the longest. We bought several, and planned to buy 3 times as many this year if they were on sale because of having more family playing the game.
A few months back I had noticed my local Best Buy seemed to be thinning out the stock on these cards, I was begining to believe it was either a store choice as maybe they weren’t selling well in that store, or perhaps they were being phased out by Anet. However, I recently purchased one at the same store and they had quite a lot in stock.
smack..Wut?…smack…smack…
Maybe they are just selling like hotcakes everywhere, and cannot be kept in stock for the demand of them?

I just bought two of them for my kids for xmas as stocking stuffers. They have them at Gamestop here in ny. They were sold in $15 units.
They were in one of the Target’s near me last week when I checked. Didn’t have the game but the PC game section has been shrinking. Soon it will only be Blizzard and Sims.
RIP City of Heroes
Perhaps they’re just not in demand here and they stopped carrying them online. I wish Anet would comment...
Same problem here in BELGIUM
one store ‘free record shop’ that used to sell them went bankrupt and the other one ‘game mania’ said they don’t get them delivered anymore

Went to one of my local Best Buys today (parents TV died right in front of me while I was visiting). They too had plenty $15 (1200 gems) and $25 dollar (2000 gems) cards. Even a copy or two of the boxed Heroic Edition on their meager PC gaming shelves.
RIP City of Heroes
They’re not in any store near me, not even in the two major towns around me. I’ve checked Wal-Mart, Gamestop, Target and Best But, and there’s nothing. It’s a shame, really, since I like to collect purchase cards (such as Steam cards) for any future reference.

My husband got me a card from Walmart, here in our tiny town, the other night.

Is obtaining a Gem Card in actual stores still a problem? I saw online that my local Best Buy has them marked as “available” in my town, but when I went there to get a card tonight, there was shelf space and price tags for both the $15 and $25 cards, but the space was actually taken up by other game cards. No Guild Wars 2 Gem Cards to be found.

There’s three stores near me that carry them. Game Stop, Best Buy, and Target. But if there’s space marked for them and something else in that space, bring it up to someone at the store. It’s possible that someone simply read the wrong tag while stocking, and put something else in that spot. They may have them.
delicate, brick-like subtlety.
The four Targets in my area carry an inventory of 10 each and order more when those are all sold. One other Target in my area carries an inventory of 30.
All the Best Buys in my area have a fairly decent supply of the $15 and $25 ones but they have limits on how many you can buy each day.
