Gem Store Level 80 Boost? <3
Not the worst idea. Since they’re giving away the L80 boost to new players now it really wouldn’t be imbalanced, and it’s a good option for people who don’t want to take the time to level alts or wait to build up a stack of tomes.
I’ve got all the 80s I want, but if I didn’t I could see myself paying maybe 200 gems for such an item.
Be even better if you could gift/trade them. Sometimes we figure we might want someone to roll a new char for raid or things like that so it would be awesome to be like “here, since we asked you to switch to ele, here’s a L80 boost and some gear in your mail”

This would be nice…..except that Anet would have to nerf the “rewards” for using the boost. This item was specifically marketed to new players to buy HoT after all.
No thanks. I don’t want to see GW2 as Pay to win nor I want to see the books useless.
Absolutely no reason to see them in gemstore.

Boosting to L80 is no more pay2win than buying xp boosters. It’s just faster.

they could strip all the out of normal reach bonuses, so you get boosted to lvl 80 and get soul bound gear but that’s all.

Lv80 boost gives you stuff with actual stat. With full spec unlock. It’s definitely pay2win if it was in the gemstore.
Anyway it won’t happen. The books deserves a purpose.

Everyone has full spec unlock at 80, save the elite specialization.

If they did introduce a “Level 80 Experience Scroll” to the gem store, I think they’d have to package it with different contents. Even aside from the gear (which is nothing to sneeze at,) the Celebratory Dye Pack is extremely valuable.
I don’t have a strong opinion about whether or not they should sell a level 80 boost, but I’m curious what people would be willing to pay for one, assuming no items came with it.
they already said they won’t introduce a level 80 boost in gem store.
I have no interest in such a boost. It isn’t particularly difficult to level a character to 80. I can’t see this as pay to win. If they were offering traits or gear that you could only get through the gem store that would be pay to win. Shortcuts are a convenience only.
I’ll be happy to pay 800+ gems for it, I’ll be happy just with the level80 boost like we have gotten, but with no other content with it. Just a simple level 80 boost.

800 gems? it’d probably be 4000 gems. WoW sells 90 boost for $50, and that isn’t even max level.
No need for an 80 boost on the gemstore. It takes almost no real time to get 80 leveling scrolls.

5 pvp wins is no joke, and to do that 80 times? takes more time than u think, took me 1200 hours to get my 2nd lvl 80 thru just tomes.

You get plenty of them from fractals. Like 10 per day.
I’d really rather not. If these items become consistent then they have no economic incentive to make other leveling systems better.
While it’s true that leveling a character manually after your first is definitely not the same experience, especially since ANet introduced the NPE and level gated everything, GW2 has many ways of making the leveling up much much shorter, almost instant. The Level 80 boost on the Gemstore would just make the experience all too empty and meaningless.
While it’s been years and many players want to enjoy the newest content, that’s why each account gets one booster. The whole end game inGW2 starts at level 1, and has always been so.
ToK’s say hi though, it’s possible to stack those up way way fast.

I keep dreaming about level 80 scrolls for the fourth birthdays.
After the boost item I’m worrying they might use something like that instead. I don’t care for all the hassle included in the boost item, I just want to instalevel to 80.
I have almost enough tomes to level the characters I want though, just waiting for the birthday to see if there’s better scroll this year. Could get even more characters… :/
I agree that it’s not needed. I think there are plenty of options for levelling quickly already.
Even if you’re only getting Tomes of Knowledge from the login rewards you can get 16 a month (if you choose them from the final chest), and they come from a whole variety of other places too. Add in XP boosters (which you can also get free), the XP rewards from dailies which can be given to any character, and all the old tricks like crafting to level up and it’s entirely possible to level multiple characters quickly in a short space of time.
Having said that for the same reason I don’t think it’d do any harm to add this to the gem store if the other items were removed. If it just levels you to 80 and gives you 1 set of soulbound gear then it’s not a problem. If it also gives you 5 Teleport to Friend items, a Celebratory Dye Kit, 2 gold and all the other stuff then it would either have to be too expensive for people to buy it just for those items (bear in mind some dyes go for hundreds of gold on their own), which would also make it prohibitively expensive for people who genuinely just want another max level character or it’d lead to people buying it over and over just for the bonus items.
But I think it’s unlikely they’d offer it anyway. They said it’s a way for new players to jump straight into HoT and play everything the game has to offer along with everyone else, and you only need 1 level 80 to do that. Especially since you can try out the professions to choose the one you like best.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
+1 I would definitely buy multiple level 80 boosts if they were sold in the gem store (just the instant level 80, NOTHING ELSE)
ANet can have all my money if they added such an option.
I disagree with those whom state it’s “pay to win”. Crafting to level 80 almost as fast or levelling via Tombs of Knowledge is no different.
We win nothing but the concrete foundations on which way we want to make use of that now level 80 character; (it’s not like people are paying for an 80 that comes with full ascended gear + weapons etc, ha!) a lot of content is catered towards max level users and having an additional option to instantly be viable or start that journey (buying gear etc for that toon) is a welcome addition to the game for many whom want to participate in things straight away. There is freedom to level to 80 naturally, freedom to use your ToK’s, freedom of choice to craft to 80 (people probably BUY gems and convert to gold for this) and I only deem it fitting the freedom of choice if one wishes to purchase level 80.
ANet is a business and a company needs to make money, one way or another.
Do I think ANet would add such an option in the gem store? I doubt it – people talk it down like it’s ruining their gameplay or somehow devalues their “efforts” or perhaps marginally do not like multiple options available to them for whatever reason. These people do not like change or find it alien to them or perhaps think it’s very wrong to “skip” things you could’ve played through whilst levelling up; I think it’s a different path of choice – now that you’re 80 nothing stops you from going back. That content will always be there for you to explore; World Completion is an example.
TLDR: Multiple ways to get to 80 are healthy game options; buying an 80 boost Is no different to instant crafting or using tombs.
Level doesnt really mean that much in GW2. You can participate just fine in any events that happen within your level range, PvP has normalized all levels to 80, it would only matter in WvW.
Selling an instant level 80 boost wouldnt bother me, if they strip the extra’s off. So it’s just an instant lv80 and nothing else.
Not that i’d use it since i actually enjoy leveling characters.

We stated in the Q&A after the April 19th update that we have no plans to sell the boost.
It’s sold with the HoT DLC pack so just pay the 60 bucks for it.

Wouldn’t mind if they added this to the gemstore, if you don’t want an instant level up just don’t buy the boost.
While I don’t think it would do much harm to our ability to play and enjoy the game, it may give the entirely wrong impression to see it for sale in the gem store.
It could create the impression of “Pay to Win”, turning off people that want to avoid games like that, and pulling in people expecting to be able to throw money at a game to quickly dominate their fellow players. Both would cost this game in the long run.
We have the tomes, let’s just stick with those and call it good.

It gives you Exotics with fixed stats (and the stats aren’t that great, IMO). You can easily buy Exotics with gold bought through gems, by that logic gold from gems are “pay to win”.
I personally couldn’t care one way or the other – I have 10 level 80s already and hundreds of tomes and scrolls, so I wouldn’t bother buying it myself – but it’s not “pay to win”.
Make it an Unlockable Gem Store purchase to anyone who currently has a Lvl 80 on their account IF this was going to be a thing.
Books of Knowledge etc could be reworked to give the player something else.
Note: I am at current max slots with 80s and have no intention of purchasing more character slots so this wont affect me either way. I just don’t see an issue with lvl 80 being purchasable for those who put the time in to at least get one character to 80 first.
Exotic gear doesn’t need to be included, they should still have to work for that, but regular lvl 80 so they don’t start out nekkid.
Just because the Free Lvl 80 boost given to the HoT purchasers included Exotics and free lootz, does not mean the additional Gem Store Lvl 80 boost would have to. I mean why would they include it? They have the items already for purchase on the Gem Store. It would cut into their micro transactions.
The boost would have to be a bit more costly and/or the xp boosters available on the Gem Store reduced to make each more appealing per the user, ie. some people just like to grind out the levels (This guy, for the most part but yeah I did use my freebie (-: ) so the xp boosters are more appealing to them than a flat 80 boost.
Again though either way, no issue for me. Just my 2gems worth of opinion.

Thank you.
Also, no. Please lets not. Dont be lazy. There are already (compared to the global amount of players) a small portion of players who complain about having too many lvl 20-30 scrolls, tomes of knowledges and writs of experiences. And now another (most likely not a majority) group of players who have the cash to spend on supposed lvl 80 gem shop boosters.
If you think a gem shop lvl 80 booster is the same as exp boosters then go buy exp boosters.
Please let us buy level 80 boosts it would be so much easier for the people who don’t have time to grind.

What grind? You log in you get tomes, you donany content you get tomes what more do you want everything on a platter with no effort?

How is this even possible? It took me about 500 hours to level up 13 characters to 80 via tomes from PvP and WvW. That’s 1040 tomes and didn’t even feel like a grind, they just kept dropping while I was having fun.
I’d be happy with letting us turn in tomes for a boost without the items. We can already upgrade Writs, let us upgrade Tomes.
I agree. Specially for us who have alot of alts...!
I’d rather be able to sell/buy tomes on the trading post.

Your skin will wrinkle and your youth will fade, but your soul is endless.
To be fair, the tome drop rate used to be alot higher, until people complained they had too many.
On my main acct I have over 30 characters, 10 atleast were leveled up the old fashioned way, 1 with the level 80 booster, 2 I’m piddeling around leveling and the rest leveled with a mixture of acct bound birthday level scrolls (we’re up to insta level 40 now btw) and tomes.
For 1 alt acct, after Hot, I needed to level 1 of each profession for something Hot related I was working on. I ran out of scrolls and tomes with the last 2 professions, and did encounter a bit of a grind. But, those last 2 professions, I knew I wouldn’t use much, so I didn’t mind waiting.
Tomes don’t drop in BL chests at the excessive rate they used to, and they don’t drop at a high rate in wvw like they used to. However, insta leveling, imo is not as rewarding as putting alittle work in, so the current system is actually pretty good.
[HaHa] Hazardous Hallucination
I miss unlocking weapon skills by killing mobs. It’s not like a new player is overwhelmed by using 5 skills after 30 minutes of gameplay
This thread is over a year old, and Anet already said they wouldn’t do this.
I think it makes sense. there are many ways to level up fast so why not something you buy that gets you all the up to 80.
