It’s a bit dramatic, but yea. I was fully prepared to excitedly return to the game and buy some fun things from the gem store (wide rimmed glasses hype) but every day I became more and more disappointed that this apparently mega sale is absolutely trash. Does not make me want to buy things…
In a game that’s so focused on making money from PLAYER PURCHASES will do so little to encourage us to actually buy things we want. A PET ROCK TO CONCLUDE YOUR CELEBRATORY SALE? WHAT A JOKE.
I’d really like to meet the person who selected these items and shake their hand.
They are truly a Master of Disaster. <3
Not really sure what you and others were expecting. It was sales with a discount and returned items. 100% what was advertised and brought.
I said exactly what I was expecting. I was expecting items that were from outside of the last 6-10 months. 3 of the skins i listed in the OP would outsell anything else that they had “returned” for the sale.
I wish I could offer upvotes, a sticky, a personal entourage of anet employees. But I can’t. So /agree!!! Oh, and +1.
Complaining over a sale? How would you feel if there aren’t any more sales? Can’t complain about “bad” sales if there are no sales to begin with, and Anet might learn that to our detriment.

I expect Anet’s sales team to consider their ‘success’ here and realize that they could have done much better.
You don’t have to make things sales prices. Things that were available in the past 6-8 months can go on sale for 10-20% off or something and items that are consistently available are at 25-30% off. Items that haven’t been available for the past 2-3 years (and have changed functionality since then from simply townclothes which were pointless to now actual armor skins) can go on for regular prices OR EVEN INFLATED PRICES. Nobody who wants the bunny ears or hipster glasses would mind paying 500-800 gems, I think because the anniversary sale could be a sale in that it brings back things that we really really want.
The demand is there. It’s been 2 years since they were available. I don’t want skins that were available to me in the past 6 months and I passed on because in my opinion they were pretty ugly. They are still ugly. It won’t change my mind.

they might as well have not had a sale since all the products on sale were terrible
I found some of the discounts exceptional. Certainly no disaster or any equivalent description from what I could see.
Yea i like to see skins with seperate Armor pcs instead we get this Outfits that u cant mix and match with at all. 800gems for an outfit isnt worth it, 800gems for Skins then we are atleast in the ballpark…

Some of the stuff I liked, some I didn’t. My wife bought the pet rock today, which was pretty cheap. I even bought some of the XP boosters, to get my masteries leveled a bit faster.
I know some people wanted specific items, but I ended up buying some of the stuff. Could it have been better? Probably. But better for who?

I think the point is that we didn’t use the sales. Of the GW2 players willing and able to buy items from the gem store, I’m sure a number didn’t actually buy anything because we were disappointed by what was actually on sale. I could sell a literal pile of garbage for 50% off and NOBODY WOULD BUY IT. It’s on sale, sure, but the demand isn’t there for my garbage. Now, Anet didn’t sell us garbage. They ended their sale selling us a rock, which is cool, I suppose, but they could have had everyone in my guild and most of my friends list, and even most of the people I know casually to buy the wide rimmed glasses and bunny ears for 500 gems each. Maybe there are a few other things in there.
If you want to have a sale to draw in some sales, you might want to consider buying things that people actually want. ESPECIALLY considering the fact that Anet’s PR will have to work double-time in order to make up for the disastrous Mordrem events.
I’m happy with the sale. I was able to buy a few things that I wanted. I guess if I was interested in things like the bunny ears(no way in hell would I use something like that) I would be disappointed though.
I found some of the discounts exceptional. Certainly no disaster or any equivalent description from what I could see.
It was a 21 day sale and you probably found things that you wanted to buy on maybe 3 of those days. I’d wager that they could have condensed the GOOD items from this sale to a 4 or 5 day sale, maybe 7 day and we wouldn’t have noticed the difference.
It really grinds my gears that Anet promotes a massive sale for 21 days but it quickly becomes apparent that the only reason they made it a 21 day sale was for publicity and they kitten at least 7 of the days.
give aviator glasses o/
Don’t worry boys, Blade and Soul is coming.
They have over 60 pages of feedback in the other thread of what items players were waiting on the edge of their seats for, and Anet delivered non of them but bagslots…

Are you sure about that? What if a recycling plant wanted to reimburse you for the energy or even recycled resources the garbage would transform into?
I bought an extra bag slot the day before the slots went on sale. Oh well, such is life and don’t feel like I’m owed extra gems back. The bunny ears are great, but Anet feels they shouldn’t be released. I personally think they should due to clear demand for them, but it’s their company. Maybe a good compromise would be as a ranked PvP reward for achieving the equivalent of 2200+ Elo (to use a WoW metric).
I agree 100% that the Mordrem event was terrible. No loot, no EXP, no copper to make up for the waypoint cost. The shoulder and glove sets are nice, but requires unreasonable amounts of playing in order to obtain them.
Yes the sale was very boring. I wish I could have spent more money, but there was almost nothing of interest to me.
I spent way to much on this event, and by the jumpo in gem conversion, people enjoyed it

Yes, but like 6 people on the forums didnt get the items they wanted, so clearly it was a failure. I hope anet gets the message and not only fires the person who came up with it, but sends every gaming company a copy of this thread so they never get hired again and have to go work at mcdonalds.
Judging by the massive jump in the gold to gems conversion price a lot of people have been buying stuff in the sale (and I’m sure comparable numbers of people have been buying with real money).
I doubt anyone wanted every item on sale, but that’s probably a good thing in the long run because otherwise it would get extremely expensive.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
i was kinda hoping for boxing gloves to make a return too,
still i’m not too bothered, they didn’t have to do anything atleast there was a sale so people could buy some stuff for cheaper.
I think most of the complaint about the lack of bunny ears and whatnot is an acknowledgement that there is a huge playerbase that want specific items and would be willing to pay money or gold for those items, but we’re not seeing them go on sale. In a game that is so driven by player purchases in the gem shop, I’d imagine that Anet would want to make that money (especially in a sale coming right before an expansion which might make them want to bank a little extra money to put toward the expansion or things that will be developed after the expansion.
We just don’t want to see revenue streams for Anet lost or closed because they’re focused on these 21 day sales that probably should have been 7 day sales
The worst part is how Gaile told us the marketing team were listening to our requests, yet that seems so far from the truth at this point, I don’t know how to feel.
Feels like they’ve been battin’ on zero lately… Bad sales, Bad event, and well… I can only hope the expansion keeps trudging along, because that was the only light in the darkness.
People will always spend on a sale, as some people have spending compulsions and it’s an easy outlet. The point is huge amounts of the player base voiced their suggestions and wishes for months in multiple threads, that were then merged, which got peoples hopes up even more. Just to find out, basically nothing from the thread was put in. If Anet wants to retain customers, and wants new players to purchase HoT or even the veteran hold outs like myself, they should start listening. Other game companies are listening, and waiting to poach all the players they can. If Anet doesn’t step it up on delivering what players ask for, how can they expect us not to jump ship?
There’s FFXIV, WoW xpac, Blade and Soul, lot’s of choices are about to be made on where the next year or two of gaming will be done. It will be hard to justify sticking with a game where you know nothing changes, the best armor skins in this game are 2+ years old. The new stuff they are coming out with looks like a 5 year old drew it.

The marketing/sales is questionable and has always been questionable in this game. I am not surprised at all.
Meh, i picked up some nice things, so i’m satisfied. Did everything i want go on sale? no, but i didn’t expect it too
Whether you personally like the items or not, someone will and that person will be quite happy with it.
I feel ANet is becoming more and more disconnected from their player base.

You’d be 110% correct about that, they messed up the mordremoth event, and their response is, opps we’re sorry we will watch you guys complain in the threads and do nothing. They didn’t want to play in the event with us because they know it’s bad, and instead of extend it so people have time to grind 20+ hours for an item, they are just going to end it tomorrow and leave everyone hanging. All while we are supposed to be happy with a bunch of old items we already had, or just don’t want because they look awful, in their “big anniversary sale” 3rd year same garbage, and the new stuff looks worse. That mordremoth outfit is hideous, almost as bad as the dragon skins for the “final day”.

I would have been satisfied with 21 days of nothing instead of ArenaNet selling things players haven’t been asking for. They couldn’t even make a day for bunny ears or aviator glasses, and instead, wheeled out something that the majority of players were left disappointed with. A good number of my friends and guildies were frustrated and severely disappointed that ArenaNet never re-released the skins a multitude of players have been requesting for since last year.
There has been some speculation that ArenaNet simply wants to release outfits instead (as it was most likely answered in several other threads), but if they had the potential to re-release the Shadow of the Dragon armor skins for helmet, shoulder, and gauntlets, I don’t see why they can’t re-release the aviators, wide-rims, wizard hat, and bunny ears. With the failed bloom event and the non-exciting “Anniversary” sales, seems like their business goal is to disappoint again and again.
Though the game itself is fun, it’s sad to see the staff utterly ignore gem store feedback.

My girlfriend would buy your garbage if it were on sale. I’m absolutely sure of it…. As long as it was on sale, that is.
I have to admit here: 2nd year ‘birthday sale’ was WAAAY better. That sale had about 90% a player could wish (almost every single armor skin on discount, lots of outfits on discount, char/bank/inventory slots on discount, collection expander on sale. So good it was last year. Now? Quite bad. I know Anet needs money, but hey, i’m litteraly holding my gems for me still. They are meant for Character slots, discounted ones only. So either you sell char slots, or the gems sit in my bank.
Also second year sale had no amount limitations (now it did).
No excuse anymore for not giving ‘hide mounts’-option
No thanks to unidentified weapons.

While I agree that pet rock to conclude the sale is pretty April foolsie; the sale itself I found to be pretty good. There were items I missed from previous sales, like black wings, and silver fed salvage-which only appears few times a year. I’m also big into outfits so once again this worked for me. I also know some people who make huge money off Taimi’s Dye. It pays to plan ahead I guess.
I wish deluxe upgrade had gone on sale. I’d like the banker golem for key farming, but I don’t blame Anet for not hitting everything on my wish list.
It’s pretty bad. Terrible in fact. But worse than Amazon Prime day?
Not putting character slots in the sale is such an obvious push to pre purchase for the ‘free’ slot and for people like me who wanted to just wait a couple of weeks after it was out and see the lay of the land its a big penalty.
They would have got more cash out of me if they had just ponied up a slot discount as I would have got 2 – now im less incentivised to get HOT straight away and if I do I will just delete a character if I want a revenant and wait until it goes in sale somewhere.
Disappointed.
I was planning to buy a discounted or two char slot, and most likely more if I wasn’t able to keep from making new chars in the time before the expansion. Now I’ll buy one, maybe at the expansion or more likely later, when I have time to work with my new Rev.
More gems sitting there unused, so its all good.
ANet may give it to you.
I am completely disapointed with the items sale. I saved some gems just for the sales, but after 21 days, I bought only 2 watchwork mining picks and some minor items with great discount but limited to only 1 purchase.

This is the impression I got as well, either that or trying to promote people to upgrade F2P accounts instead of buying character slots. Regardless I find it odd that probably one of the most sought after upgrades wasn’t put on sale.
The sale itself seemed lackluster, mainly because it was really just bringing back items Anet pulled themselves. It didn’t even seem like many of the items that were brought back where discounted. Creating artificial scarcity by limiting availability then bringing them back at the same price during a “sale” seems shoddy to me.
For a game that is running on its 3rd anniversary and trying to recoup players for the release of the first expansion, the sale seemed more counterproductive than anything. It will be interesting to see if the gold:gem conversion tanks from people offloading gems they preemptively bought but didn’t use.
who knows, maybe the week of or before, will have charter slots for sale. It sucks an item you want did not go on sale, but saying the whole thing was bad, just because it did not come up or go one sale, is just awful to do.
anet have stellar knowledge on what the community actually wants and will pay for in their game. they are faultless.
to sell pet rock for 87gems, or bunny ears/wide rimmed glasses/aviators/devil horns/halo for 800-1000gems. the obvious choice is clear to everyone but anet evidently
Ominous Threat [oT]
While I agree, I keep seeing people say things like, they could sell the sought after items like bunny ears at inflated prices 800-1000 gems and cash in on the super high demand and people would gladly pay it.
But lets be honest, when they/we say “we want this item to come back during the sale”
We at the very least want it at a reasonable price. Yes some will complain if its not “discounted” but then you could give it to them for free and they’d still complain.
Price them higher and there would be riots, pages of people raging about cash grabs, milking your customers.
Sure some would pay 1000 gems for the bunny ears, heck price em at 10,000 and you’d probably get a few just buying them cause they’re expensive, but not every person is going to sit there and thank you for charging them 2.5 – 25x the original cost.
And the few paying 10,000 most likely isn’t going to outweigh the many who’d drop 400 without batting an eye.
There is absolutely no evidence to support that it would.” -AnthonyOrdon
Even If bunny ears was made 500-800 a piece, I’d probs buy it lol.
Why not host a poll to determine what the community wants and call it a community sale. Then have your anniversary sale and release each item slowly.

A “sale” where not much, if any, of the items on “sale” sell, aint much of a “sale”.
I was kinda disapointed.
Actually there was nothing I would have bought.
In fact there was a single category of items I was gunning for: Armor Skins
I think they never went on sale (aside unfinished sets). Especialy the phalanx armor would have been an instand buy for me.

The sad thing is that stupid rock won’t even generate any serious income for them.
The few who will want it will probably just buy the gems using gold thanks to the low price and the dropping gem price as people sell off their excess gems that never got spent.

Because we would never hear the end of the rant if those things would go on sale for 800-1000 gems. Would people buy them? Most likely. Would it be a kittenstorm of complaints about anet being greedy kittens? Definitely.
