Similar to how i have a wishlist on steam and i get an email when something goes on sale, let me setup a wishlist of gem store items and when they come on sale or come back into the gem store, notify my so I can give you my money.

I want to give you money, please take my money.

I’ve no idea if the API works with the Gem Store, but if it does, you could ask over in the API sub-forum if someone could create such an app.

Good luck.

The API does not have information about gem store items, but it would not be an unreasonable request to the developers that they consider adding it.

It likely already has one, actually, since the entire gem store and trading post are implementing as a web page, using an embedded web browser, so… it’d just be a matter of them exposing info in a public way, I guess?

Unfortunately, the only gem related API we get is gem to gold and vice versa. If Anet would add gem store items to the API then I could make a website that would give alerts but more likely than not, one of the established websites would beat me to it (which is fine).

I just want a way to make sure I don’t miss any good sales this month but sometimes I am very busy with work (I work 70+ hours a week sometimes) and if I can’t login every day to play, I’d still be willing to login for 2 min just to buy something and log back out. I’m probably not the only one in this situation.

You could ask the API developer if it’s possible to release a new node that would expose (a) the items available in the gem shop & (b) the costs. Then fan-coders could write an app that would display changes.

The relevant forum is:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/community/api
(The developer is extremely open-minded and usually gives quick feedback about feasibility and time frames, i.e. he’d say if it was a practical impossibility with current data, if it were more work than it sounds, or if it’s something he could whip up over coffee.)

Well, in the meantime, if you would have 2 minutes (per day) to log in to buy something, perhaps a reminder to check the Sticky above, each day, about Gem Store offerings would suffice. It probably would not take more than 2 minutes.

Good luck.

This. That sticky is updated generally within 30 minutes after the items show up in the gem store, usually more like 15 minutes after. So if you check this forum at around 9:30 am Pacific, you’ll see what the day’s offerings are and if you want them you make sure to log into game to buy them once you get home in the evening.

You can check even faster if you remember how many posts are in the sticky thread. If the number hasn’t changed since you last reviewed the most recent post, there’s no need to load the forum page.

You don’t even have to remember how many posts; if it’s not greyed-out, AP or Just has updated it (with the minor exceptions of when someone else posts [which are usually soon removed]). Oh, of course, that relies on being logged into the forums.

Good luck.

Right — I was saving the OP the time of logging in! I only log in on my home PC myself, so when I check the forums on tablet or phone (don’t want to key in my password on those) I have to rely on memory of what I have and have not read. Add in the long load times for the multipage sticky on a slower device and yeah, I do tend to take note of the post count before opening the thread.

I’ve seen gem store offerings posted on one of the Guild Wars timer pages as a widget, showing new and returning items and their gem prices. Are those updated manually by the website administrators or is this information pulled from an API? I always assumed it was auto-generated from an API but the replies in this thread tell me otherwise. The widget lists all current promotions, their gem costs, and their price in gold (via gold>gem conversion).

I can link directly to the timer page but I’m not certain that hotlinking to external sites is allowed so for now I’ll just say it’s one of the more commonly used event timer websites with a fairly obvious web address.

They’re missing out on a lot of revenue by not including an API for this. There’s a ton of stuff I would have bought if I’d known it’d been on sale. I don’t always have the time to logon every day just to see what’s going cheap :-)

The post directly above yours shows a tool that uses the API for gem store item availability. It’s newly added, but …

I think this is really good advice. I don’t know what technological requirements such a system would have, but with kind players willing to do some of the work in creating an app, I do this it’s worth asking our API-knowledgeable folks — who are some of the most amazing at participation here! — if they can offer an opinion on the possibility of putting some of this info in an acccessible form.
