Is the current gem to gold rate good or bad? Right now it’s sitting at 1300-1400 gems for 250 gold. I’m not sure what the usual rate is because I haven’t played in awhile. Also are keys worth buying if im looking to get stuff to sell for gold or no?

Personally I’d wait for the next Living Story episode release when it should jump again (possibly over 20g/100 gems).

Look for yourself at http://www.gw2spidy.com/gem

Black lion chest keys are almost never worth buying if you’re looking to make gold.

A few days ago, you could get 100 gems for 25gold. Today, it costs about 28 gold. When Black Lion Keys go on sale, the price has been going over 35 gold; it’kitten a similar rate when servers are relinked for WvW. With bothing happening at the same time, it’s gone as high as 40g/100.

In other words, today’s rate is relatively low.

I haven’t paid as much attention to gems→gold rates, but I’d guess that you might be able to get 30-70 more gold from your 13-1400 gems… if you wait for the ‘ideal’ time. It’s up to you whether you think that’s worth the wait.

I use https://www.gw2tp.com/gems , this one updates roughly every 30 minutes. It’s up a little bit today due to the outfit. If you look at selling then maybe the next sale in a month or so. When something popular comes up there should be a spike.

Black Lion Keys are worthless now.

One slot in a Black Lion chest is permanently lost to a seasonal item. Your chances were to get something good were horrible to begin with, and thanks to that, they’re now worse. People need to boycott Black Lion Keys and send a message to Anet to stop jacking with loot and good items in this game.

Lately, if you can get 250 gold for between 1300-1350 gems that’s not bad. If you can get 250 gold for under 1300 that’s very good. Anything over 1350 gems is in the buy high category I’d say. Like people have said, whenever stuff people really want come out or goes on sale such as cool outfits or keys being on sale is the time to buy gold which is kind of an obvious conclusion. It’ll almost always dip under 1300 gems for 250 gold during prime time of big sales.

I don’t think that really made any difference. Before that one slot was always a booster, which is not completely useless but considering you can buy them directly for less than the cost of a key I doubt anyone was buying keys to get boosters.

Black Lion keys have nothing to do with the OP’s question about when to convert gems to gold, except that, despite your claim, people continue to buy keys in huge numbers whenever they are discounted.

(Besides that, your claim suggests that Black Lion Keys were ever anything but useless: BL chests have always contained garbage or junk or worse, with only the tiniest chance of something noteworthy and an even smaller chance of something of high value.)

Was just going to add what IWN said. Also – that slot that’s now always a Seasonal Item? It was always a Booster before, so if anything the economic value of that slot has increased from Zero to Insignificant.

Yeah that’s what I was saying – at the Living Story releases you could get over 20g per 100 gems compared to right now about 17 gold per 100 gems.

At Episode 3 release I converted 1600 gems and got over 360 gold. That is over 22 gold per 100 gems.
