PLEASE STOP making only one click wardrobe outfits. I want to customize my toon with different pieces from these sets, not an entire costume set. I prefer individuality and not 1000 toons looking the exact same. Why aren’t they all by piece by piece Armor skins? Once you unlock it, it could also automatically go into your wardrobe as costume, so people have both options. I’ve seen several sets recently that i would buy on the gem store,(Ceremonial Plated, Crystal Nomad, Imperial, Jungle Explorer, Shadow Assassin, Noble Count Outfits) but because they are entire costume outfits i don’t even bother with it. It seems more recently Outfits have replaced Armor skins. Why?

Kelly, the most logical reason is… It’s far easier to make 1 outfit and release that to everyone than make 3 sets of armor. Keep in mind the lite/med/heavy framework is very different, so it would take more time/resources to make each set, that is assuming A-net wouldn’t release just a heavy armor skin… For example, the upcoming countess Anisse(sp) outfit; if it was lite armor only, how many heavy/med users would be unhappy?

A combination of things, I imagine. They sell very well as is. If they can sell some gear as a outfit, it saves them having to model each bit as an individual piece that would have to interact with pieces of other sets – clipping and other issues are kept to a minimum as a result.

If they were to release it all as just gear unlocks, I imagine some would be unhappy that its the same skin for each gear type, which may irk some. likewise to have a heavy, medium and light version which is different is 3x the time and effort than to create a one size fits all piece. They can’t win there.

I don’t know if the way I enjoy and consume gem store items has changed, but back when there were more armour skin unlocks, I couldn’t really be bothered at the time, and have only bought a couple since. With outfits, I seem more inclined to buy them as an impulse buy, and, when I was buying gems with IRL money, I was buying gems purely for the outfit just released.

Perhaps because the designs are incredibly good, perhaps the slightly lower price point (700 as opposed to the usual 800 of skins), perhaps the psychology of marketing and buying these things. Whatever it is, I do feel the outfits seem a bit more special than just the armour skins, and have greater anticipation for them now.

Perhaps if Anet went about skins as they do outfits, it may show they will have similar successes with those skins. But Anet have found a winning formula for getting us to part with money for gems. Until those sales drop significantly, they’ll likely keep on as they are. And there is the issue to those who are completely against the outfits as they are and added. For Anet to radically change the approach, it would need a lot of reduced income from these sales. The excitement around them, as well as the sheer number of players about with it, show Anet are making a healthy wedge of cash from these.

Yes with all the effort that goes into making them i understand Anet is being lazy/cheap and not making them armor skins, It’s more profitable for them to make outfits instead. I probably shouldn’t of said ‘why?’ since i know why:D I just want Armor skins like it used to be—regardless, I pref customization, which i thought was the point of this game. The vanity aspect.

There are a lot of people like myself who wont spend IRL money because they are ONLY outfits. I use to spend money on the gem store a lot, then outfits came out and i stopped. Do you guys still get little thankyou gifts from Anet for from buying things monthly from the gemstore?

Me!!! I hear you, Miku. I would be a little sad if the new countess Anise outfit was a light armor skin only. I’m looking forward to getting that one for my ranger main.

Another cool thing about outfits is that you can wear them on newly created toons instead of the 1/2 dozen different assortments of bland rags that are in-game as armors for pre-lvl 80s, especially if you’re a medium armor class! (And no transmuting needed!) And have you seen the plethora of ugly kitten (even for lvl 80’s) to select from for rangers, thieves and engineers? So many hideous coats that I wouldn’t want to be found dead and revived in…. just bury me! hahaha!

Ideally, imo, it would be nice if Anet released some things in both – as an outfit for the masses and then as armor for a single armor class. So things like the new Balthazar outfit would also have been released as a heavy armor, the countess Anise outfit as also a light armor, etc.

Anet, you listening? (Is this thing on?)
