Gemstore prices are a rip off.
this kind of thing should be obtainable in game through some quest or achis [maybe in guild halls if these are ever introduced?]…not from shop for such ridiculous price…
You are making a massive mistake here.
You are under the impression that the gem-store is priced based on what the conversation between Gold – Gems is, which is very much incorrect.
They always base prices on gem-costs, not gem-gold costs.
The game needs to make money in order to survive.

For some reason I think they want to make as much money as possible which sadly goes to other MMO’s because a lot of the money from the Gemstore goes to NCsoft not ANET…. and these prices are just plain wrong. I don’t feel obligated to purchase this AT ALL. The price is crazy.
I saw this item and I thought it a nice addition considering the price of metals on the TP lately- so it seems to me like a way to increase supply and taking a bit of pressure of people.
pity for me is that I have been selling those metals on the TP.
The price is fine- it is a permanent account upgrade- and it won’t kill you if you don’t have it.
I have exactly one node- the krait obelisk- in my home instance and my game has not gone up in flames because other people have more nodes

Most of the money goes to other games anyways, so don’t act like it doesn’t already make enough money. gw2 has earned more money in 7 months than gw1 did in 7 years which sold far more accounts than gw2… and yet everything new costs $$, at least gw1 gave everything at events away for free for the most part.
Secondly you have to be smart upon purchases, who wants to buy the new dye packs with a 1 in 5 chance (550 gems/60 gold for 1 dye on average) when they are all listed for 20-45 gold each and it would be wiser to just buy them off the TP and get more for your money? Those that buy the dye packs are generally unaware of this situation before buying.
Actually prices matter a heap, some people can see when its obviously not worth it.
If it was gemstore armor/skins or tools that are considered priceless that would be a different story, this item offers us in-game items that give us money in return.
You do the math, its by far not worth it.
(edited by Osi.3504)
i haven’t used it but based on the ‘Candy Corn Node’ which yields about 10 pieces daily, you’d be making about ~20s a day in mats (which are currently borderline useless except for maybe upgraded to the next tier.) So this little ‘gem’ of an item should pay for itself after, roughly, 400 days of continual use. go ahead and spring for the unlimited mining pick and, after 4.5 years you will have ‘free and unlimited’/time-gated copper, silver, and gold that you can do all kinds of nifty things with like craft level 5-60 trinkets (fine print: pebbles, lumps, and nuggets sold seperately)
(edited by Tman.6349)
^ I have 2 sets of unlimited tools and I love them^
they are a convenience nothing more and I use it as another avenue of character customization. I will definitely buy more sets as they come out

And how long do you think NCSoft would continue supporting ArenaNet and GW2 if it didn’t bring in enough money?
Of course, but in order for them to be available on the TP people would need to have bought them from the gemstore in the first place, so if everyone was “being smart” there would be no dyes to buy.
No, those who buy the pack simply want to either get them fast, earn extra money from selling them, or simply want to support the game.
Something being worth it is very subjective.
Checking the maths none of the permanent gathering tools (nor the salvage robot) are “worth it” and yet I find them priceless due to the massive amount of convenience they offer. Same with the nodes released with this update.

Yes but the gathering tools are priceless for the convenience, these ores you find all over the place anyways and you have to go to a certain place to get them which makes it less convenience right now so I would view those differently even with the price. I just find it absurd to sell 3 ore nodes for 80 gold that is 1) tedius) and 2) would take forever to get your money back.
What is this ore pack? I haven’t seen it.
What is this ore pack? I haven’t seen it.
copper node, silver node and gold node for your home instance- 800 gems.
it went up in the store today
along with some rng dye pack and a metabolizer item that makes your food boosts last 12 hours
40 gold to expand character tab
I’m glad they chose copper, silver and gold nodes. Most useless ones in the game.

Hmm… not really enough uses for those to be worth 800 gems to me personally, but I do like that they’re adding home instance type things. If that covered all the ores I’d be on it in a heartbeat. Even if it was just the other ores I’d probably get it.
This is the down-side of a the B2P model.
70% of developer attention is given to the gem-store, the only source of revenue.
The whole concept of converting Gold to Gems was only ever implemented to combat inflation by offering an endless money sink as well as to stem the tide of QQ that would have ensured if gem stuff remained exclusive to real money spenders.
The thing is though, ANet gains nothing from people converting Gold into Gems. That’s why the ratio keep increasing and the Gem-prices are balanced around the assumption that people are paying real dollars.

Convenience item for when you have too much gold, no, could just buy mats. How much ore would you get from it? Permanent gathering tools, now that would be really convenient.
I’m glad they chose copper, silver and gold nodes. Most useless ones in the game.
i would love to craft gold with gold nodes
silver with silver ores
and copper with copper ores
I think a certain point is being missed, and that the nodes are a “convenience” item, one that isn’t necessary to game play and quite honestly one that’s easily done without. Anyone could find these nodes in the map with their eyes closed if they wanted to. For the convenience though, 800 gems is rather cheap for the convenience of getting part of a daily done without having to go very far.

Someone suggested temporary items that would last a month they could wear a santa hat during christmas that could cost 1-10gems. I would love that.
It’s probably been said, but you don’t need to buy it if you think it’s overpriced.

Then you’re a poor investor. Think about it: jeweler is going to be level 500 soon and these precious metal nodes aren’t really that common.
In the CDI threads there’s been a dialogue regarding rarity/supply of mats during the increases to 500. To avoid the issues we’re having with linen and silk the devs have taken the feedback they were given and are implementing an item to alleviate the some stress that would come from finding these nodes and farming them to craft jeweler to the max levels. Additionally, this fresh and readily available supply will prevent these mats from inflating to the levels we’ve seen with the cloth mats. They didn’t just choose these nodes all willy nilly as they have a purpose in the very near future.
I just hope this doesn’t devalue the existing mats too much considering I’ve already bought a fair supply of silver, gold, and platinum ores and ingots in anticipation of making a huge turn around. I hope this item doesn’t turn me into a poor investor!

In order to do the math, you have to have all the numbers. You’re making a huge number of assumptions here that not only can’t be proven, but are likely wrong.
Most of the money goes to other games…you know this how? Guild Wars 2 made more money… probably but it has a much much larger overheard…bigger staff, more investment initially, bigger offices. If you’re not Anet’s accountant (and I’m pretty sure that’s the case), you have no idea if they’re making more or they’re not making more.
Different day, different game, different overhead, different market. Your guesses are just guesses and should be presented that way, instead of stating things as fact.
People are never happy are they “we want more reason to go into our home instance”
Then suddenly “OMG 70% of developer time os going for the GEMSTORE, WHY’!?!?!??!?!?!?!,” seriously these are convenience items that you can buy to have even more incentive to go to your home instance, and stop saying developer time is used on gemstore which it is not.
Buy it if you want some more convenience, don’t buy it if you don’t it’s that simple.
Also gold and silver are are aplenty in a few areas and you can get 100+ in 1 hour already.
People seem to forget that this game is a f2p mmorpg with standards and gameplay as good(opinions my vary) as a p2p such as WoW.
Nothing in the gem store makes you a stronger character or gives you an unfair advantage to anything. It’s just things that may give you more convinience throughout your gameplay.
GW2 players are truly spolied sometimes and they really seem to forget that.
Meh convenience item that some will feel is worth the cost. I have no issues with either the item or it’s associated cost.
It would be a rip off if you needed it, that’s for sure.
True convenience? Buy a stack of ores from the trading post.
you know i get the whole Anet wanting to make money thing, i really do, its a capitalist world where money dictates almost everything, the more you make the better off you are (not that i fully believe that but thats how the world thinks these days) the thing is theres a fine line between whats a rip off and whats value, and for me too many items in the gem store have just started to look like any attempt to squeeze every last drop of money they possibly can before they move on, yes all the stuffs “cosmetic” , no one is forcing me to buy 1 thing, but why do they want to by so scrupulous about it, for me the gem store has just become a negative association, everytime i see “this new item available in gemstore” i think how are they trying to rip ppl off today, when initially i was pretty keen to see what it had to offer.
I’m glad they chose copper, silver and gold nodes. Most useless ones in the game.

Ugh don’t remind me….
Although, haven’t seen any of the crafts use this yet. Since it uses silver and gold (theoretically) and only jewel crafting uses thoses, I’m going to assume (at this point) that it will come into play when jewel crafting gets bumped to 500.
I often hear complaints about how all Guild Wars 2’s money goes to support other games. I wonder why there weren’t complaints during Guild Wars 2’s development time about other NCSoft games supporting Guild Wars 2. I am pretty sure it wasn’t created without support from the producer. I’d say they (NCSoft) were pretty generous with their support over the 5 years of development. Just my opinion, of course. =)
More on topic, I don’t feel every bit of content is only in the Gem Store. I enjoy the LS, and all it offers me to do each two weeks. Free. At no additional cost to me. Pretty sweet…again, just one player’s opinion.
If I find what’s offered in the Gem Store of interest to me, I buy it. With gold converted to gems. Free. No cost to me. If I don’t find it of interest, I don’t buy it. Seems pretty simple, and win/win from my perspective.
If the price is too high… don’t buy it!
I might be buying one just to have it as decorative item for when we get customizable houses. I want a cavern with shinies, so…
But I agree that the material value is in no reasonable relation to the cost of these items.

Me too. The talk about home instances in the CDI has me excited, and I’d rather it not go the route of Town Clothes.

True… Hopefully a toxic spore plant at the end of next quest line…
I don’t feel obligated to purchase this AT ALL. The price is crazy.
You’re not suppose to feel obligated to buy things in the gem store. Unless you’re using the word ‘obligated’ incorrectly, for example I am obligated to pay taxes, obligated to follow the law, obligated to not scream profanity in the church etc. There is no obligation on your part to buy anything in the gem store, it’s all items intended for convenience. You don’t have to by the infinite mining tool, you’ll be no less or more capable of mining then someone who did. You don’t have to buy the basic ore node since it doesn’t enable to prevent you from accessing those node resources in the game.
Vanity and convenience items are targeted towards compulsion. So while you’re not obligated to buy them, many players feel compelled to do so. The real problem is pricing. While I have no problem with employees at Arenanet or NCsoft making a living, with the average cost of items released monthly in the gemstore I could just as easily buy another game(s) on steam. You can’t nickel and dime people at $10 a pop. While i’m no economist, at the end of the day a $20 taco, is still just a taco.
this kind of thing should be obtainable in game through some quest or achis [maybe in guild halls if these are ever introduced?]…not from shop for such ridiculous price…
Or, you know, you could just grab a mining pick and make a run through one of any number of zones with copper, silver, and gold ore nodes. It’s not like these gem shop nodes are going to give someone so much ore they’ll have an advantage over someone who doesn’t buy them. The RNG dyes, on the other hand…I’ll NEVER support or defend RNG in cash shops so long as the odds of obtaining the rare/desirable items aren’t made public.
You are making a massive mistake here.

They always base prices on gem-costs, not gem-gold costs. The game needs to make money in order to survive.
I was always under the illusion it needed to fix the bugs, listen to its community and veterans and maintain actual expansions in order to survive.
I will have a word with my old university professor immediately to let him know my business degree is now USELESS!
Also, I’m wondering how much of my gem store money they “needed to survive” with went on those 300+ PS4s? Care to do the math on that?
Basically more stuff you don’t need with a pinch of RNG (the R stands for RUN! not sure about the last two.).
Don’t support the Gem Shop, it’s that easy.
Whilst I agree the gold to gems conversion is expensive and does make certain items very expensive if you attempt to go that route, I can’t exactly complain about it. It’s the cash shop. They want people to spend real money on things. That’s the whole point of it. They’re nice enough to allow us to get things entirely through gameplay if we so choose with the conversion. They didn’t have to do that at all.
I’m glad they chose copper, silver and gold nodes. Most useless ones in the game.

Nope, Jeweler isn’t going to 500 any time soon. I’m not aware of any plans that have been stated by Anet that include jewelry going to 500. If you know otherwise please provide a link.

Jewelcrafting and Cooking will be going to 500. We just have no confirmed release date at this time.
Its NOT about how they want you to buy these items with money, it’s about the fact that the pricing is not matching up with the current inflation.

pre-pav 800 gems was 25g. Now its 67g. Its just not justifiable now to keep charging 800 gems for minor things. Even a blc key is now 10g.
