General term and game mechanic question
Power tends to be synonyms with zerker (that would be focus on power, precision and ferocity). And yes they tend to be glass cannons.
I tend to stay away from pvp… me and pvp we just don’t get along.
Power is the name of the Attribute (stat) that boosts your direct damage. So a power build is one focused primarily around damage. You’re right that it’s a glass cannon build since it’s purely damage based with little/no defense (except dodging and moving).
It’s also called Beserker, Zerker or Zerk after the prefix or suffix given to equipment with power as the main attribute, and Precision and Ferocity (which boost critical hits) secondary.
Condition builds are different. They focus on doing damage by applying conditions.
There are many other builds, and sometimes different names for the same one. For example all defensive builds could be called Tanks because of their similarity to tanking builds in other games. Or they could be named after the equipment type they use, like Soldier’s or Nomad’s.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
owh thanks. i thought glass cannon is the build that use utility for damage, imean no defensive utility as i stated ;condition remover, stunbreak etc.
So normally, how we plan a build ?Select weapon then setup trait and then utility? Or we decide we go power the select weapon and utility synergizing the trait and weapon?
Thanks all:)
It’s mostly synergy between traits and skills, then how well you can achieve the role your build is trying to focus on compared to other classes. For exemple, you could possibly buy a “tank thief”, by taking a defensive amulet and trait setup, but it wouldn’t work since other classes just do it million times better and you can focus on other things better. A build without stunbreaker is a bad build, and teleports are indeed very useful to travel across the map or getting out of aoes ( and some of them also break stuns), so most pvp builds will try to have at least one of the two. Condi removal isn’t necessarily needed depending on the class.
Ok.Now i get it. Since with lots of weapon that utilities plus different traits make me confuse but excitely curious at the same time.
Thanks
- In PvE, Power builds are the same as your Zerk/Glass builds (just like everyone said above) But in PvP/WvW Power builds are just builds that prioritize Power as their main stat, the other two minor stats can be anything else. In WvW, soldiers and knights tend to be the way to go for your power builds (not zerk) some players will mix and match, as long as the priority/main stat is Power, they can be considered power builds.
- Other types of builds besides the traditional power, glass, condi builds depend on the profession. You have bunkers(generic for tanks), turrets(engi), minions(necro), terror(necro), shatters(mesmer), PU(mesmer), bearbow(ranger), etc.
- Cleanses are a priority in PvP (players have a low hp in general, so dot dmg is huge). Stun-breaks are a second priority (some cleanses are also stun-breaks so this is secondary to cleanses in general). Most teleports are used as stun-breaks so these aren’t a priority much. You may also want to invest in a source of Stability and/or vigor if you plan on PvP’n much.
