Generic Armor Skins
Completely agree! A new gem store armor a month doesn’t cut it especially since it’s not even in the game it’s in the cash shop. We need some armors that actually look good and that people want instead of the same boring generic stuff that we get like ascended which was a total disappointment, you look like a chicken in the medium armor. This would be very nice if they could add more armor skins to the game but I highly doubt it. Knowing how Anet is we wont see any actual skins added to the game until their expansion if they ever make one.
a deep hood for my warrior/guardian would be awesome, would pay for that even. phantom hood and grenth hood dont count, a deep hood that covers the upper part of the face a bit is what would be cool. and cross-class armor would be cool too, always did want my engi to wear some plate armor
id also like to see armours specifically designed for charr and norn, the majority of armours on those races just look stretched and badly fitted.
Just a quick shout out to the fact that after Two years, the gear skins start to get a bit stale.
Lets take the Medium class for example, You either get to wear a Trenchcoat or a Trenchcoat. In my case for example I’d love to be able to make my Ranger actually look like a Hunter, with furs and such but apart from the Norn Cultural gear its a bit limited.
Same goes for the Heavy class, your choice is mostly Bulky plate and Chainmail most of which don’t like to play well with each other when you try to mix and match. Now this is a bit on the extreme side of the scale but I’m sure there are some people who want to wear Full metal armor on an Elementalist or a Robe/Leather on a Warrior.
I can’t really voice my opinion properly but I know others in the community see this issue as well, so feel free to respond and add input on this post.

(more furs, scales, wood, leaves, (anything else that’s not leather) would be nice.)
There’s like one chest armor that actually qualifies for the definition of ‘trench’ coat. I think the problem is the way the models are made. Almost all the pants look the same with minor texture differences, and are forced to be made that way so they fit under our many coats and don’t clip with anything. This is different from Light and Heavy Armor that have volume to both the chest and leg models.
It was probably too much work to give all the leg models a complex, detailed model with volume, and a less detailed simple model for when there’s a coat or other stuff getting in the way. This would reduce clipping overall, and allow Light and Heavy Armors to Have coats as well, instead of butt capes. But still, a lot of work, and during development, Anet probably thought the investment wouldn’t be worth it.
This is already done with Gloves and Boots, so some chest and leg models cover them up entirely except for the hands and feet, but sometimes, there are weird results.
But still…., Not a Trench coat :::
Imo class specific designs are lacking a lot. Doesnt even need to go out of the weight class zone. Just make some armors with bones, gears, scrolls, potions or what not on them and put them into the gem store…or game itself. Ya know.. armors with a certain flavour to it sorta like the magitech armor..thats a good start. Obviosly meant for engineers in design but also liked by rangers and thiefes. Why? Cause it got personality. Just do that to more armors.
Put out a complete grenth armor like this here:

And make the green parts dyeable for example. People who like the design will use the armor, dye the “magic” how they want or mix it with other armors and got a kitten light armor with personality. To try to appeal to all classes within the armor weight class is not a good approach. It limits your possible designs what makes many armors extremely generic, so much that they actually blend together. Im not saying there arent obviosly for a class designed armors in game and obtainable via random drops or something.. but these are too rare (or not obtainable at all like the tribal set that reeks of necro) Imo a-net should just step out of the comfort zone and release armor sets that reek of certain classes, nothing would go to waste and people WILL use these skins, specially if they are well made.. what shouldnt be a deal. Some will cause it fits the class and others will cause they just like how it looks.. or both. And if an ele wears a skull mask or a thief looks like he escaped a steampunk convention (or the movie tron for that matter) or a ranger looks like an assassin covered with knive holsters its fine and its fun
I don’t think you would find one player that would not want more/new armors. Especially veterans. After 2000 hours I am so tired of all the standard armors…it’s just sad. I would love to see way more added both in game as drops/rewards and in the gem shop.
Agree… I’m so sick and tired with all coats for medium… And most of the clipps tail with Charr (wich is thye only race I play). That leaves me with 3 good looking options atm… out of loads…. The new PvP, medium armour is NOT a coat either and at least that is good! But, there need to be more… Whatabout differentlooking tribal armours…? The one that existed was removed and it was one of the cooler armours. Why didu do that?
Only about half of the skins I have unlocked for medium armor wearers are coats. There are a TON of tunics and such out there. >_>
Here, check this out. Yes, there are a lot of coats, but there are still plenty of non-coat items. A lot of the cultural armors are un-coats as well (humans being the only medium cultural I can think of off the top of my head with a coat).

Also maybe having the armor/weapon skins change as you level up would be nice.
Getting the EXACT same armor/weapon skin from lvl 1 to lvl 80 from quest rewards/drops is disappointing. Having to spend transmutation charges every time you upgrade is a pain.
This doesn’t include all the various exotics of course.
something came up in another thread about some sort of region based (ie Metrica, Blazeridge, Southsun, Drytop) reputation or prestige system where completion of events or repeating hearts (not as a requirement for said prestige but just a bonus outside of events) in that area gave prestige point/tokens where higher prestige gave access to items that could be bought with these tokens (kind of like dungeon merchants). And one of the rewards being armor skins (amongst other things).
The variety of armor appearances with the mix and match possibilities still continues to capture my attention from time to time with those who pull off unique looks I never considered.
I don’t really have an issue with some need for more stock appearances.
