If you have read the feature pack page about the new Trading Post (which is looking a lot better), you probably saw in the first picture a interesting button “GET MORE GOLD”

Straight to the point: this game depends a lot on luck (RNG if you want to call it so), and if you’re not lucky, you will probably buy what you want from the Trading Post. But another thing this game has a lot is terrible rewards

So combining the terrible rewards with your probable inability (aka lack of luck, virtually non-existent drop rates), they just want to make easy money instead of making improving our experience (better rewards/less RNG)

Think of the cool items you can make using the Mystic Forge, the materials we need, or the gold to buy them if you don’t want to grind. Now think how you’ll spend your time getting 100+ T6 materials. Without an incentive to play, people will just quit

So what does this post have anything to do with the new TP?

As posted by Curtis, an anet developer in the TP thread, all the get more gold button does is open the currency conversion interface to show people it exists, just for a more connected UI and improve exposure for the other UI elements.

If you are looking so hard to bash Anet that you identify this button as some sort of money grab and take the time to make a thread about it, maybe you should consider taking a break from the game (or go find another game).

exactly, it’s funny how people have to pick apart this little thing as if it’s a gamechanger and makes the whole update kitten.

I’d prefer that the button wasn’t there, but I’m not going to make it into such a big deal to rant about it on the forums.

Really it is nothing that was not in the game already, the button itself is intrusive though and I would rather it was not present.

The button is bit on the tacky side, but only because of they way it’s worded. I’d personally prefer something a little more honest like “Convert Currency!” But I totally get why it was worded how it is (because marketing!). It is all about selling gems after all.

Fact 1:

  • The new button takes you to the gem exchange (confirmed by Dev).

Fact 2:

  • The more new, confused and overwhelmed people (many of whom are MMO first-timers) in the game clearly see that they can legitimately buy gold, the less purple whispers you’ll get hint hint, can say no more.

Fact 3:

  • The more people in the game who need to buy gold do buy gold legitimately, the less you have to pay and the more money developers get… which in turn can go into the new content and rewards many of you are talking about!

Fact 4:

  • Wording it “Get more gold!” is necessary to let the new, confused and overwhelmed people understand that they can get gold and not some useless gems. For us, veteran players, it doesn’t really matter; for new players, I’m sure it makes a big difference.

They want to make money. That’s just a fact of life. You can’t be subtle about these things if you want your business to stay afloat, and as a customer, I have to live with this.

Now if there was a popup telling you to buy more gold, that’s a reason for complaint.

Rather: They need to make money. MMOs are costly things to keep running (and growing).

Although the RNG is a bit of an issue though.

You know when I feel pressured to buy gems? When the design/developers put something in the gem store that I want! That I WANT.

I don’t feel pressure to spend money in order to convert gems to gold to get more in-game money. I don’t think anyone feels this pressure, ever. Now, that isn’t to say some may want to buy gems to get gold faster, that is their call now isn’t – it? (some odd forum moderation thing going on with that)

TL;DR: I don’t see the issue.

Exactly, its NOT like the “In game shop button” that WoW added, in like 4 different places .. now THAT is a blatant cash grab ( appauling for a Sub based game)

In GW1 (prior year to EotN) I remember players begging, pleading, they wanted options to spend money on the game. Namely character slots. At the time Gaile was the PR type persona and was doing some back and forth with the internal powers that be and the players. They brought in PvP packages and such later after the character slots. I left the game shortly after this as I wasn’t interested in EotN, but the point is…

The PLAYERS were demanding this.

Fast forward: GW2 built to give players options to spend their money on the leisure activity Anet provided. Yes, it monetizes the game, you aren’t seeing an expansion every year or 6 months since they can do content from this monetization. Players get what they asked for, company gets paid.

I don’t see the issue with them ensuring players have access to this option easily available. Adding shortcuts to access this hurts no one.

Hey dude you are walking into a wall.
