Since Karma is an account-wide currency why do we still have to open the containers to receive the karma? That’s pointless clicking. Just have the karma be attained on acquire.

Clicking the item and seeing it being acquired provides a greater sense of reward to a player than it automatically going into their wallet.

That’s arguably subjective. And there’s a precedent in other currencies that go straight to the wallet (geodes i think?). I would personally be satisfied with just seeing the karma listed briefly on the right side like loot, or pop up briefly as text in the middle of the screen the way XP does. If there were an option to have karma be consumed automatically, I for one would tick it.

Karma Boosters don’t affect consumables.

Perhaps, that’s why there are still consumables (containers). /shrug

It’s entirely subjective; there’s no argument. However, the vast majority of people undervalue things that they don’t interact with. “Out of sight, out of mind” applies here.

You’re also correct that there are precedents for just mentioning it in the sidebar and that’s a good example of why they don’t do it for everything. Spirit shards pop up this way and, as a result, a lot of people think they stopped acquiring them from basic foes and champ bags.

You’re also correct that there are a lot of people that would be fine with no more double-clicking for karma, for transmutation charges, and so on.

The problem is: the vast majority of human beings would continue to undervalue the amount of currency they acquire. For me, it would be better to reduce the number of steps/clicks. All the same, I believe it would be worse for the game and the gamers in the long run.

It’s the opposite. The direct karma gain is affected by karma boosters (and karma bonus from achievements), but karma containers aren’t. So, Anet’s using karma containers in order to make those boosters useless.

Actions, not words.

While we’re at it can we make more things available for purchase with karma? I’m sitting on 3 million karma and 500 obsidian shards.

Don’t tell me mystic forge, burning a few hundred karma at a time doesn’t burn millions of karma on human time scales.

You can use them to buy armor (or is it weapons) in the racial cities and temple armor (level 80 exotic) in Orr. Most events give you the karma without a container, not sure why LS3/BF is different.

Laughed for 10 seconds. That’s just embarrassing to read. Its karma, the stuff people get millions of with the only real easy sink being orrian jewelry boxes which sadly give lots and lots of karma potions.

At the Christmas festival i spent 5kk at the NPC in Divinities Reach on little sacks containing leather and cloth mats.
I’ve already made that 5kk back and are now back to over 15kk again.
I have several stacks still left and will do the same this Wintersday. Much better than the orrian boxes i think.
Anyway might be idea to save up some karma for that again.

But most of your karma from events and hearts are automatically added as has always been the case. Containers made senss when karma was character bound though. It wasn’t meant to be cumbersome or provide you with satisfaction, it was built so you could transfer karma between characters.

It’s obsolete.

I like opening them and seeing how much karma I get. Buying pact scout mapping materials at 5,200 karma each or 31,200 karma a day puts a dent in your karma supply and I like seeing it replenished when I open a karma container.

Be careful what you ask for
ANet may give it to you.

I’m saying why it was likely done. I’m not saying that it was perfect or applicable to karma specifically. I know the thread is about karma specifically but this can be applied elsewhere.

Liquid karma tastes like grape soda. I like knowing I’m about to enjoy that sweet purple fizziness, it allows me to appreciate it all the more. Don’t be messin’ with my grape soda.

I guess a compromise would be to allow players to consume an entire stack of karma items at once like we can for luck. The last that I checked, we couldn’t do this yet.

How often to you regularly have more than a 2-4 in your inventory at any given time? The essences of luck I can understand because those pile up huge (and they did get a consume-all fix)… but liquid karma? I personally have never had many at any given time… clicking them is part of inventory management, and there are never that many for me to click.

I have no issues with clicking to consume the karma consumables. This was just to give those that do a little bit of release if clicking more than once on that rare ocassion was too much.
