Getting 1 shot
I don’t know what they were thinking when building the thief. “You know guys lets have the thief have a lot of endurance regen so they can dodge a lot, also lets have then go in and out of sealth while in combat, also lets make it so they can basically 1 shot people with their burst damage.” I’m fine if thief can do large amount of damage via backstab but for kitten sake REMOVE their ability to go in stealth in combat, a lease add a cooldown to it. Even a freaking f2p Korean mmo had it right when assassins can’t go in stealth when their in combat. Fix it Anet.
I’m kinda fine with Mesmer but they can use a damage reduction.
there is a cool down to stealth, it’s called the ‘revealed’ debuff. but what would you know, you just wanna QQ about the class right?
i wish the ignore function actually worked on these forums. i’d have half the casual population that dont care to learn how to counter a stealther ignored
I really don’t mind getting one-shotted if they’re built for it, but there needs to be counters. The thief is a problem because it can one-shot from a state where it can’t be attacked or defended from. Furthermore, if the player in question fails to one-shot he or she can just stealth away. It is a zero counterplay zero consequence playstyle.
They are working on class balance. Expect mast fixes and balance to be done by around February (WvW patch). If it isn’t done by then, I don’t think they can ever expect any esport scene from this game, which is sad. If you are getting one shotted, your doing it wrong. Try some more toughness/vitality.

Because not being able to stealth for only just 3 seconds immediately after destealthing is severely devastating to the thief. This also is tacked upon the non-rendering of character models in WvW. Once a character becomes invisible (including mesmers) they are kicked to the back of the line to render making them quite the predator.
You can argue that you can still target them even if their model hasn’t loaded. I would retort saying good luck with that amidst the chaos of WvW if you are in a situation where rendering is an issue.
There are quite a few things that thieves need altering as well as other classes to create a more balanced game. Take Necromancer for example. ANet views it to supposed to be able to be a “chase” class. It has “multiple movement disabling abilities, while allows them to chase down enemies who are low on health.” However nice that sounds on paper, in the game it is a completely different thing. Bugs, inconsistencies, and just the shear lack of “chase” skills make it ineffective at this job. As a result, thieves capitalize on this allowing them easy spike damage and retreat. Thieves are a low risk, high reward class.
People who think thief needs an adjustment are not in the wrong and more specifically are not “QQ about the class.”

I have not ever seen someone get “one shot” . I’ve seen folks get rooted and hammered to death, or anchored and mobbed to death. Heck even with being an Ele I have had to play tag with the occasional thief.
I tried playing a thief. I promise you its not as easy as every one makes it sound. At lvl 40 I deleted it because I realized I just suck at their mechanics.
The only thing that make the thieves thing tough is as has been pointed out time and time again and that’s the culling. Just dont get caught alone…especially if your fragile!
My ele can survive enough of the initial attack should I get caught unawares but never do I get burned down in “One Shot” to where I can’t lose him/her in the crowd. Or atleast get a couple of licks in myself. I absolutely hated dagger Storm….. as a staff ele in Wv that takes about 3 or 5 shots at them out of my attack …. unless I want them headed back to me… until I figured out the ground AoE’s aren’t effected!
Play around ….key word PLAY…one more time ….PLAY….. if its frustrating you …your not PLAYING your competing. Pay attention to what you did… what they did… oh and more importantly….. that he/she that hit oyu the first time…is the same he/she that popped out of stealth after hitting you again.
Two major problems here:
First. You clearly are spoiled by gear difference power so I would advice to go play some dota or something of the likes of it (no FPS, most of them have “gear treadmills” too). Adding to that you are probably doing nothing to counter your problems. Play with the classes you don’t like, do some research and at the end change your build.
Second. Complaining for the sake of it and saying other people complain about stuff means nothing. I can complain too – it doesn’t mean I am right.
In the end just shows lack of knowledge on what you are talking about and it doens’t help your “problem” get fixed.
Note: I’m nowhere saying thiefs need or not rework/balance just pointing how not constructive Soul’s post was.
