• I’m a highschool student.
• I’m OCD about maximum efficiency in every game I play. Whether or not the guy next to me is at maximum efficiency, I couldn’t care less.
• If there’s food in front of me I’ll probably eat it.

• Part of the reason I play the TP in game is because economies fascinate me.

I really enjoy the people I game with on a daily basis and like to think I have made some close friends even though I have never met many of em. It feels a bit odd that I have known some since they started high school and to know them as they become drinking age adults going to college, learning a trade, and starting jobs like I was when I met them. It makes me feel like I’m getting a bit old.

I realize he’s not a wolf or a bear, but he once beat a karka all on his own, and even participated in an event while I was selling stuff in the TP, so he’s cool by me.

First member of my family in the US not born on a cattle ranch.

Received my first full sized horse (family raised Morgan quarter horses when I was growing up) at age 5 and my first long-arm (Winchester model 94) at age 6 (hmm, may have been my 7th birthday actually).

I love both shooting and riding though I havent really had the opportunity to do much of either in years.

I am a long time pen and paper RPer, but have yet to participate in RP in an MMO.

I am happily married to a woman that I met in GW1. She is a much better player than I but I am a better build theory-crafter. I will (in a number of games) design builds that we both use-her with much better results than I.

My wife and I had a medieval fantasy themed wedding with Tyrian elements. I wore armor/tabard/baldric/sword, she wore a gown modeled after one in a medieval fantasy painting. Yeah, I am (we are) that geeky.

I am firmly of the opinion that two people debating (arguing) about something from opposing view points can find solutions, truths, or insights that would not otherwise ever be reached.

I am firmly of the opinion that I don’t have to agree with someone in order to respect their right to their own opinion and their right to express it.

I am financially conservative but socially liberal.

Huh. I’ll bite. I’m usually such a hermit on these sorts of forums that I may as well tempt fate.

I’m 33, been married for 14 years to my childhood sweetheart and I’m a senior aerospace engineer and am very fond of woodworking, microbrewing and electrical engineering at the hobbyist level.

I tinker with a lot of my own computer hardware and make a lot of my own custom cooling, electrical and lighting arrangements as case mods.

My wife and I both make occasionally great beer, and we pretty regularly have friends and coworkers over for grilled dinners and a new batch of cider or over of our stouts.

We have three cats that are fonts of amusement, and no intention of having children.

We travel quite a lot and visit other countries fairly regularly.

• I started playing Guild Wars waaay back when Prophecies was just released. I was active on-and-off until GW2 came out.
• My girlfriend is an avid console gamer, while I am more into MMOs. She likes romcoms, and I like action movies. She is really good at math, and I need a calculator for the simplest of things. Opposites attract, I guess?
• Despite living in Canada my whole life, I hate snow and I don’t care for hockey.

• I am currently attending classes at a university under the department of Linguistics. I have been a TA for my department for 4 years. My major of study is interesting but not particularly useful, so I don’t really know what sort of career I should look into after I graduate.

• I used to be heavily involved in various drama programs throughout school. When I was a kid I wanted to become an A-List movie star. Although I don’t pursue that passion anymore, I still daydream about it every once in a while. haha

• I have been to many different places around the world including, Tokyo, London, Waikiki, Kuala Lumpur and Juneau.
• I think that “variety is the spice of life” and try to do something a little different every day. Repetition is boring; I avoid doing the same thing too often. When I play Super Smash Bros, I am that guy who picks “Random”. In GW2, and I try to balance my playtime between all of my characters, and I try to participate in various activities.

• I have a degree in behavioural biology and work for a wildlife conservation charity in the UK. It’s probably the most unpredictable job you could do in an office and can be incredibly frustrating but I love it.
• My landlord doesn’t allow pets but I keep giant African land snails anyway.
• My favourite colour is purple, which is what most of my character wear.
• I love rock music and Guns N’ Roses and Nirvana in particular.
• I’ve been playing video games since I was 2 years old (Hungry Horace on the ZX Spectrum was my first) and RPGs since I was about 8.
• I was terrible at RPGs until I was about 12 but loved them anyway.
• My first MMO was Ultima Online. I was almost entirely focused on taming dragons, unicorns and nightmares.
• My second MMO was Guild Wars 1. I saw my brother playing it, found out it didn’t have a subscription and I was sold.

- in summer 2014 after a year working in goverment laboratory i finally broke down under heavy mobing and constant sexual harrasments and had severe anxiety attacks that ruined me mentally (a proper mental burnout and i couldn’t eat for 2 months or leave the house) and forced me to quit a job that basiclly was a dream job in my country since they can’t fire you whatever you do and you are pretty much set for life. But i quit that job and still am trying to overcome my anxiety and i’m slowly succeeding. Only positive thing that kept me going is my bf that i met at work during that hell year, he was only reason i endured it for a year and kept comming to that hell hole every morning.

- now i work in private company and make nasal sprays and baby creams with cool equipment, and my bf is working in the same company since he quit along with me

- love my family and close friends and bf who sticked with me and i will allways be grateful to them for so much patience

- gw2 helped me a lot in forgetting about outside world and helped and still helps me cope with my anxiety

- I’m 23 as of last Thuesday
- I’m female and will be finishing up my Master of Science, Biology degree in roughly 7 months. My main area of interest is medical biology/developmental biology, especially birth defects highly fascinate me. Though, currently I’m working on synthetic organs.
- I used to be highly fascinated by evolution until I learned everything about it. I think it’s because it seems highly rare, special and unproven for a layman, but it’s actually not.

There’s not much to say about me.

I’m a guy, 36 (i’ll be 37 in May). I’m disabled, had a heart attack two years ago. I’ve been playing games since pen and paper D&D, then it was text based games run through a telnet client on a 56k modem. Also some bulletin boards (L.O.R.D. if anyone has ever played), then UO, and some others after.

My taste in music is eclectic, I can go from listening to Bach to Pantera or ParagonX9. My favorite color is black. I don’t take video games seriously. I have enough issues to deal with. Married three times and divorced three times, now single because I just don’t want to deal with the headaches.

Interesting thread with interesting people replying! I don’t usually post but I’m kinda bored so here goes:

• I’m 24, Female
• I have a degree in Computer Science and worked as a Software Engineer in Japan for 3 years. Went back home for almost 2 years and will be going back to Japan again as a Network Engineer.
• My japanese is pretty good, I could basically watch anime without subtitles on.
• I’m a home buddy who would rather binge-watch anime, movies, etc and play mmos.
• I love eating so I really love watching cooking shows! But I rarely cook cause I’m really lazy but when I do, it’s so yummy(or I might just be biased on that) Lol!
• People’s first impression of me is shy/timid but I’m really very talkative! Haha
• I love reading books and travelling. I’ve already read hundreds of books in my 24 years of existence.
• I’m extremely laidback BUT extremely driven(Phlegmatic-Choleric ftw!). It really drives me crazy. It is really hard for me to get started on a project due to my inherent laidback attitude but once I start something, I won’t rest till I finish it. I never do anything halfway, it’s all or nothing!
• Due to my all-or-nothing attitude, I either PvP exclusively or PvE exclusively. No mix. Lol. I played PvP exclusively for many months. I got 5 champions but ele and warrior are my favorites. I really love PvPing in almost any MMOs I have played. I love winning 1v1 and team fights (no more than 5v5). And losing makes me reflect on the mistakes I’ve made and improve on it in the future. I go exclusive PvE to grind for legendaries(currently I have 5) and pretty armor, coz above all else, I love looking pretty. Lately, I’ve been doing PvE exclusively coz I’m saving up gold for the upcoming new legendaries! And PvP does get boring with only 1 game mode. So Im pretty excited for the upcoming new pvp mode as well!
• WvW doesnt interest me coz I’m too lazy to gear up for it. I play lots of classes and I wouldn’t be bothered to gear them all up just for zerg vs zerg, zerg vs door, loads of running around, and occasional 1v1, when I can just go to HotM, hop on any class I feel playing atm, and kick butts to my heart’s content.
• I love jumping puzzles. I’ve finished ALL the JPs in gw2. Looking forward to new JPs in the next expansion!
• Finally, my favorite colors are blue, yellow and pink. My toons are always dyed in these colors.

I’ve raised exotic animals including insects and arachnids, as well as reptiles and birds.

I’ve been a gamer my entire life, starting with pen and paper D&D when I was about 15.

I’m a fantasy and science fiction fan, an avid reader (though I read less now that I used to) and a WWE fan (I know, I know!).

I suffer from chronic back pain and complex post traumatic stress disorder from the events of my childhood in Brooklyn.

• I was a super active poster during the development of Guild Wars 2 and made a tremendous number of posts about sylvaris and mesmers. Honestly, both of them turned out exactly as I wanted… so my main is a sylvari mesmer and I love him to death.
• When I play games, I don’t care about winning. I just want to do something interesting. That might be why I am currently going through the game without armor. Level 40 so far. I don’t think that’s too bad.

Other MMORPG’s as the kids try other games- I’ve played about 20 for at least a 3 month period. I liked Rhyzom and Rift, the kids didn’t.

Rarely post here or “talk” in game because I can’t/won’t learn touch type. However, my daughter who lives locally posts here often, and I read here often as well.

If my kids didn’t play, I probably would spend all my on-line time at ICC (Internet Chess Club) which is my place to PvP.

Oooh good picks! I could toss off a lot of other authors to recommend, but I will stick to two based on your like of Hamilton and Weber:

S.M. Stirling — similar world building to Weber with lots of attention to detail and to socioeconomic implications of world changing stuff, excellent combat and adventure and characterization, not afraid to be grim but also has real heroes and epic scope. Avoid his vampire books to start, though, they’re a little out there, instead try the Nantucket series that starts with Island in the Sea of Time and the Change series aka Dies the Fire.

Lois McMaster Bujold (SF: The Miles Vorkosigan series; Fantasy: Several, but especially the Sharing Knife series) — Truly fun reads with characters you want as friends. The Vorkosigan universe is space opera, I suppose, with a lot of heart and humor, danger, heroism, and madcap adventure.

I made this last year after some of IoJ’s epic WvW battles.

- I used to be a graphic-designer (Retouching images for avatars and signatures, advertising posters.) but after an agression I quit. Now I’m living at my house and I don’t want to leave the house for any reason. I became a social phobic. (anxiety social). For me, life is impossible without having seizures fear, I easily enraged both pushed by this state of permanent paranoia. Even without thinking. I am suffering from approximately 7 years, following the very poor human experiences. although it started two years before.

- Since I was born, I’ve go trough nine surgical operations. (hernias, malformation of the lungs, and so on.)

- For the past seven years, I’ll stay at home and plugged to the internet, trying to found other people like me and help them. I managed to save five people from living in the streets by offering them a safe place at my house. I also helped them to find some work and get a new start in life. But I can’t overpass my own fear and do something for me.
Games saved my life, because after a year of confinement at home, I’ve been wanting to kill me to relieve my mind of my neuroses. GW was given and I found people I at first was terrified every time I received a message. And then slowly, I was curious, I discovered some amazing people. Away from anything I had experienced. Far from the abuse I suffered.
Slowly, I agreed to meet some, to befriend. And my faith, very slowly, I started to leave my house. I learned to defend myself, to assert myself through games, guiding groups. I have learned to tolerate the presence of people in vocal and written, and their actual presence. I discovered how to cope without annoy myself in situations that I thought too complex.
In 2011 I was able to go to the Paris Games Week. I met the devs team on site. My brother shook hands with Daniel Ducio and showed me the book art, I have had a teeshirt. And finally, very proud of myself, I thought you had a great Friday. On Saturday, it was horrible. I made three steps back and finally I returned to my isolation.
Presently, I finally get to go shopping alone and fight for my driving license without collapsing like a house of cards as soon as there are other students.
I owe it to the video game community that helped me, supported, shoved.
