Age 45

First member of my family in the US not born on a cattle ranch.

Received my first full sized horse (family raised Morgan quarter horses when I was growing up) at age 5 and my first long-arm (Winchester model 94) at age 6 (hmm, may have been my 7th birthday actually).

I love both shooting and riding though I havent really had the opportunity to do much of either in years.

I am a long time pen and paper RPer, but have yet to participate in RP in an MMO.

I am happily married to a woman that I met in GW1. She is a much better player than I but I am a better build theory-crafter. I will (in a number of games) design builds that we both use-her with much better results than I.

My wife and I had a medieval fantasy themed wedding with Tyrian elements. I wore armor/tabard/baldric/sword, she wore a gown modeled after one in a medieval fantasy painting. Yeah, I am (we are) that geeky.

I am firmly of the opinion that two people debating (arguing) about something from opposing view points can find solutions, truths, or insights that would not otherwise ever be reached.

I am firmly of the opinion that I don’t have to agree with someone in order to respect their right to their own opinion and their right to express it.

I am financially conservative but socially liberal.

My favorite movies are The Searchers (John Wayne) and The Adventures of Buckaroo Bonzai (Peter Weller and John Lithgow).

My favorite musical artists are Johnny Cash and Queen (with special shout outs to The Ramones and ACDC).

My favorite book is a toss up between To Kill a Mockingbird, Ender’s Game, and The Black Company.

We do Ren Faire every year, we did have a video game themed wedding, sort of. I think most of our family wouldn’t have understood a full-blown geek/video game wedding. Not sure how people manage those without most of the family saying WTF?

We did a wiccan hand tying ritual, which most people really didn’t understand at all, but they found it pretty inspiring, least that is what they told us

Sticks and stones may break my bones,
But words can also hurt me.
Sticks and stones break only skin,
While words are ghosts that haunt me.

Slant and curved the words-swords fall
To pierce and stick inside me,
bats and bricks may ache through bones,
But words can mortify me.

Pain from words has left its scar
On mind and heart that’s tender.
Cuts and bruises now have healed,
It’s words that I remember.

-I used to be an Oracle/ArcGis specialist. I had problems remembering variable names,,
-I didn’t finish university , I failed when I was 23
-I used to row at national and international level, I had to retire when I was 23,
-I’ve got a very bad memory de to the stoke, and I have epilepsy since I was 23, not operable, non repsonsive o medication, medication free for the past 4 years, suffering numerous attacks (absence/petit mal, daily 4-12), partial attacks mostly cramping of hands and feet (once every few days), partial complexattacks once evey 2-3 weeks, luckily no more tonic-clonic seizures for the last 4 years now, I often suffered series of TC attacks and have been in hospital dozens of times, and been given up more then once…

-I also have a personality disorder not otherwise specified, but containing parts of PostTraumaticStressDisorder, due to suffering bullying, including physical violence for several years, mostly by a select group of people, leaving me afraid to go outside, even now 25+ yrs later
AutismSpectrumDisorder, which is probably a misdiagnosis due to the fact i fear people so much, and going out, and talking to strangers.
HypoManicDepression (MDD), which causes mood swings very bad ones…

-I have played computergames from the age of 5, maybe 6. on z80,8080,x86 for the past 35 yrs….

-I’m not allowed to drive cause of the epilepsy, I ride bycicle (I have a HUGE city bike, with a trailer for my kids or another for cargo or go by public transport (which I hate, due to the fact I am forced to join into te crowd)
-I own a German Pointer (short haired) He’s white/brown, 6yrs old and warns me for epilepsy attacks (no training, way to accurate to be coincidental) and he is the main reason why I go outside, other reasons are groceries at a local market, and bringing my daughter to and from school.
-I loved to read in my past but cannot remember enough to fully enjoy books anymore…. I sometimes try though. Favorites are Dune and Hitchiker’s guide to the galaxy and it’s sequels, on TV the series I love: Mash and Dr. Who, I do not care for many other shows…. unless Anime, I’m watching anime when not busy with wife and kids, walking/entertaining my dog or playing gw2.
-I love a wide range of music….. classical, jazz, folk, alternative, light metal, electronica, house, I have listened to a lot. No clear favorites though, It seems to shift with my moods, and having MDD it tends to vary, I can listen to Sol`ey and move on to beastie boys or marilyn manson then switch to radiohead and spice it with some prodigy before some miles davis and topping it of with vivaldi… all perfectly normal.

I like this thread.

  • I am from Spain (actually living there).
  • I am 25, currently unemployed but for the past 9 years i’ve been writing a novel between jobs (mostly as programmer or databases designer), which i hope i can publish someday.
  • I spend most of my day playing, coding, lurking the forums and speaking with my guildies while listening to my music.
  • I use a desktop computer and i’m against laptops. For some reason I was never able to like them, first it was because of overheating, then it was the keyoboard and nowadays i just make other excuses.
  • I play Guild Wars 2 more than 8 hours per day, which i know it’s insane but well… it makes me happy. I like the community and i’m one of those players that it’s 50% of their time asking answers in queensdale or lions arch.
  • I built one of the first chat-bots in the world for TeamSpeak, based on ServerQuerys and Telnet (nerd stuff, yeah, skip this one if you want xD).
  • I was the 1st player in the MMO LOTRO to get the most hardcore achievement of 2012-2013 (ivar’s champion). I also had some of the First Server Kill titles that only 1 group was able to obtain (I did like to lead raids for years). After that i pretty much burned out and went to play a casual MMO, and here I am.
  • Now i play for no rewards, I never farm, I just stay around hanging in a virtual world while I have fun with my friends. Although I play casually most of the time, my old habits still give me some work to do leading other players once in a while. I’m a known commander for the spanish community (mostly because I was the guy that lead 24 Wins on the Marionette, and then 75 consecutive Scarlet Holograms kills (all 3 platfoms, not just one) on the lion’s arch attack). Now I just command random Tequatl defenses (which we still do the old way, with 4 players at the 4 specific pulls each 90 seconds, not just randomly positioned at the turrets) and The Triple Treouble Wurms (I’m the commander for Amber each saturday at 15:30 +1GMT), that usually dies without problems.

I guess that’s me. Ended up talking about my gaming experience more than my real-life experience :\ meh, let’s fix that.

  • I love The Crow, best movie ever.
  • I like Metal music but most of the time i’m listening just slow and calm down progressive rock such as Anathema (Search Anathema Universal on youtube, epic concert).
  • I’m a male, just if you are wondering xD.
  • I like to drive, I don’t do it often anymore, but I made more than 20.000kms in my first year with a license and it felt awesome.
  • I’m one of the few persons in Spain with a diploma about videogames design in 3Ds Max and Maya (I don’t even know how to translate it into english, but it was a… course? about how to create a videogame. This one is only for 30 persons each year.
  • I was one of those guys that was dump on 14 feb (Valentine’s Day)… 8 hours after my grandmother died (3 years ago). Talk about bad luck streaks uh?
  • Oh, i almost forget it, I love the Aetherpath, already done more than 400 runs there (I wish someone at Anet could give me the exact stadistic of my account for that dungeon).
  • I’m a self-taught person, which learns almost everything without tutorials. I don’t like to be told how to do something, I like to be told what to do and i’ll find the most efficient way to do it (of course this does not applies at work, when my bosses told me they needed something done in an specific way haha).
  • My biggest dream would be to publish my novels and find in the real world a person that looks like 2 of the characters from there. One is the main character, the other one is the main antagonist. I could die happy if I ever find someone like them in the real world.
  • I don’t farm, but i do put in the mystic forge all the yellows that I get (and not all of them are weapons). Twilight precursor dropped twice with that method, I recall a yellow helm with some gloves and a dagger and I think a pistol in one of the drops. I did also get the hunter precursor doing the same. And the lover dropped from Tequatl (i have 100+ spoons, i won’t sell them)

Ok that’s better have fun.

- I’m as boring as it gets; 46 years old, a certified accountant
- I work full time and have lots of decisions to make every day along with lots of responsibilities, so when I come online to GW2 I just want to have fun and shut off my brain for a while
- I have 2 grown up kids that introduced me to GW2 (they’re now 24 and almost 21; neither of them still plays, or hardly ever at least)
- I’m not OCD but I am a perfectionist to the Nth degree
- I’m from Canada, so I have a favourite colour (oooo so many "U"s in there eh!), and it’s red
- I love red wine
- my husband and I have a baby, his name is Ozzy and he’s an almost 4 yr old Yorkie who is the sweetest and cutest creature on the planet
- I love seafood but my hubby hates it so I almost never eat it
- I don’t play the TP because I get pretty sick of accounting and economics :p

BTW – I really like this thread. I love to learn stuff about people!

I made this last year after some of IoJ’s epic WvW battles.

Ozzy is the Splendiferous Red One flying off into the sunset – inspired by a pic of Ozzy in his “super-dog” halloween outfit.

BooDuh, that is an awesome painting! I’m so happy our super dog inspired you. I don’t think I could ever get as good a shot as that one again. He even looks like he’s about to respond to a distress call…

  • I’m 34 years old, and roughly 2/3 of that has been spent around computers and gaming. As such, my first actual gaming PC was a Texas Instruments 99/4a unit with expansion box and tape drive. My second was an IBM PC jr, and my third was a “let’s put extra parts together and get this working so you can stop hogging Daddy’s PC” special.
  • I’ve been playing MMOs since the first one to hit the net, though I gave a wide berth to World of Warcraft due to not wanting to spend money on a subscription fee. Already playing GuildWars at the time may have contributed.
  • I’ve played consoles for a large chunk as well, but around the time of the XBox 360 I kind of deviated from it due to console games moving away from what I enjoyed.
  • I’ve written two things which have been published, though on a strictly local basis. One was a nonfiction article, the other was short form fiction. I continue to write lightly as a hobby and to keep my skill sharp but I have neither time or money to spend chasing anything more than hobbyist writing.
  • I’m a tabletop gamer, and have played at least five systems: AD&D 2nd Edition, D&D 3rd Edition, D&D 4th Edition, Ars Magica 5th Edition, and Ironclaw. There are at least two books I am aware of where I have “Playtester” credit.
  • I am a huge, long-time player of Magic: The Gathering. (Since the end of “The Dark” distribution period.) I have seen quite a lot of interesting things happen to that game, and had some time to listen/read material by the lead designer (Mark Rosewater does a “Drive to Work” podcast) and the others on the team.
  • I play other sorts of tabletop games, recently Settlers of Catan and Splendor are the top contenders. Munchkin is in there but we wisely determined to keep breaks between games long.
  • I am a fan of many things which are produced by Rooster Teeth Productions.
  • I am a reader any time I get a chance to read, and need to start reordering to rebuild my book collection so I can begin reading. (Favorite reads include “Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn” by Tad Williams, anything I’ve picked up by Timothy Zahn, the Vorkosigan Saga by Lois McMasters Bujold, and the Amber series by Roger Zelazny.)
  • I own a startling amount of LEGO for someone who is 34.
  • I watch a small variety of television, but the number of series dwindles yearly.
  • I do not think the Star Wars Prequel movies are as bad as people insist. I do, however, think they could have been far better.
  • I watch anime very carefully and prefer subs to dubs – I like to actually pay attention to what is going on rather than the bottom two inches of the screen. So far I have a favorite character in Major Motoko Kusanagi, and runner up is Spike Spiegel. (Yes. Runner up.)

Just turned 35 (got into the GW franchise at 25).

Divorced (quite bitterly)

One young amazing daughter I see every other week, who went to PAX with me.

I have an “IT Career” that got derailed some years ago and these days I’m a fairly well-paid phone monkey. I hate it.

I’m hoping to get my career back on track and jump into a Linux Admin direction, hopefully this year.

I’m posting on my “lunch” break at work right now. (lunch = 1am). When I get out of here, I’ll go pick up my princess and take her to school. Then sleep for 5-6hrs and go pick her up again. Rinse and repeat all week.

I’m otherwise pretty much a hermit. I don’t “go out” needlessly, unless on behalf of someone else (like taking my kid to a movie, etc). For just me? I dislike crowds, noise, traffic, people in general and am more content at home.

I haven’t owned a game console since the N64. 100% pc from then on, with Starcraft and Diablo II being mainly responsible for the conversion. DII was the first game I actually put some years into. Then GW1, now GW2. Haven’t spent more than a few months on anything else. Mainly, after D2, I “outgrew” much of my tolerance for repetitive grinding, and I just don’t have that kind of time anymore.

I am 25, male, studying for a PhD in mathematical analysis.

Every time I feel down, I remind myself that what I do is basically magic to more than 99.99% of people on the planet.

I exercise a lot but I am getting no closer to my ideal figure, since I cannot be bothered to eat healthy.

I often contemplate the pros and cons of taking over the world.

Even though I understand morals and pretend to be a nice person, I have no conscience whatsoever.

I prefer pirates over ninjas.

Okay…I’ll play too.

I’m a female with more than 35 trips around the sun. I have a wonderful husband who also plays GW2 and together we have a rotund feline and a tiny canine.

I have two Masters Degrees and now work as tech support for a college library, and most days it’s fun…sometimes frustrating but I enjoy my job.

My free time is spent in guild wars 2. I picked up GW1 a few months before launch and got my 30 HOM points in a whole 2 months.

We have an extensive video game collection and I still have my original NES. While I started out a console gamer I’ve come to love the beauty of PC games….though nothing has been able to hold my attention as much as GW2 has.

P.S. Pirates are way cooler than ninjas.

- sailed to over 80 countries, 100 islands, crossed 3 oceans
- I was living as an illegal alien on Hawaii for 5 months
- I took part in the biggest sailing expedition and oceanic sampling since Charles Darwin
- The prior owner of the expedition vessel was a Knight of the British Empire and was killed on board by pirates in the Amazon
- I sailed for 2 semesters on the Tall Ship with the red dots on the square sails pictured in the loading screen of Frostgorge Sound
- That ship sank in real life about 5 years ago off the coast of South America, so i am happy to see a pic of it every time i lead into FGS
- I searched the FGS map for hours, over and under water, for that ship or its wreckage
- crossed heart surgery off my bucket list last year, unfortunately the passive part
- Right now I am working for a institution that promotes international exchanges for young people doing their vocational education and training, while getting a postgraduate degree myself
- planning on creating the first vocational school in the world that is located on a sailing ship
- playing video games for 25 years but GW2 is just my 2nd mmo (lotro the other one) because online games and traveling dont mix well
- Tiger Woods Golf was my favourite game while sailing in the South Pacific because I enjoyed all those green gras and trees in game that I didnt see for months in real life

Im a landscape engineer (aka i cut grass/cutdown trees and etc) for the school board where i live.

Hmmm… I have a love / hate relationship with these types of threads. I love reading them; I hate contributing to them. What can I say? I hate talking about me. Let’s see what I can come up with…

  • 31, female
  • Met my husband online back in 1999, happily married in 2010, and celebrated 15 years together this past January.
  • Joined the GW community when Factions launched in 2006
  • Avid reader, I own more than 4500 books. Mostly fantasy, with a smattering of sci fi and romance. Some of my favorites include The Black Company Chronicles by Glen Cook, The Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan, and The Black Jewels series by Anne Bishop
  • I don’t have “a” favorite movie. I have a “current” favorite, but it changes quite regularly. Presently the current favorite is ‘Frozen’ (what? it was adorable!)
  • I work full time, which significantly impacts how often I get to play. I’m a bit of a jack of all trades developer. I’ve done front end (ugh), I’ve done back end, but my real love is SQL. I currently have a SQL Developer role, which I’m enjoying.
  • Alt-o-holic. My husband’s account doubles as a secondary account for me. I had 4 accounts in GW1 (total of 44 or 45 characters across them); he’s limited me to 2 this time around. But I’m still up to like 30 characters. Most of which I’ve gotten to 80, but oddly I never take the time to really gear them at that point.

I’m sure there’s more, but this is getting….long-ish…

Don’t look at me like that. Whatever you’ve heard, it’s probably not true.

Lets do it humbly:

-I’m 20 years Old, Male
-I’m a First Generational Immigrant and am from Kashmir (disputed territory, I’m from the side Pakistan controls). From a tiny border village and the only boy in the village (rest were toddlers).
-I’m a Govt. and Int. Politics Major and minoring in Legal Studies, International Security.
-I can speak 5 languages (including one dialect) and have learned about 4 years of Latin.
-Growing up my playground was a 300 year old graveyard. I played hide and seek in open graves alongside the bones. (they were open because of land slides and earthquakes).
-I have survived through 3 earthquakes (one was very minor and one was very major) and 3 floodings.
-I love history and social studies. Growing up I used to draw maps for fun.
-I love to read. There weren’t many books in my village so when I came to USA I read at least 3 books a week.
-I have fallen into wells, been chased by cows, pack of dogs, baby goats and small children.
-Bird eggs have hatched in the palm of my hands. It was quite scary (they were so alien looking and one was bleeding).
-I like computer graphics and love making stuff and also photography (I have thousands of pictures of Kashmir).
-I like to play RPG and Strategy Games. My first game was either Age of Empires or Roller Coaster Tycoon.
- I don’t think I can ever play another MMORPG after GW2.
- I love to learn but am too lazy.

Ok.. I guess it’s my turn…

In west Philadelphia born and raised
On the playground was where I spent most of my days
Chillin’ out maxin’ relaxin’ all cool
And all shootin some b-ball outside of the school
When a couple of guys who were up to no good
Started making trouble in my neighborhood
I got in one little fight and my mom got scared
She said ’You’re movin’ with your auntie and uncle in Bel Air’

I whistled for a cab and when it came near
The license plate said fresh and it had dice in the mirror
If anything I could say that this cab was rare
But I thought ‘Nah, forget it’ – ‘Yo, homes to Bel Air’

I pulled up to the house about 7 or 8
And I yelled to the cabbie ‘Yo homes smell ya later’
I looked at my kingdom
I was finally there
To sit on my throne as the Prince of Bel Air

Wish it, Want it, Do it!

Ha, I’ll join that club! No one believes I’m about to hit 50. Probably because I’m thin with very long brown hair and have no wrinkles. I had one early 20’s client in for a discussion of his case once and I dropped a comment about being in my late 40’s as part of an anecdote to help him get things in perspective. He flat out said he hadn’t been listening to me because he thought I was some new rookie lawyer but now he’d really pay attention. One of the few I’ve met kittenpected me more for being “ancient.”

People also think I’m a vegetarian due to the skinny long hair thing. They’re always shocked to hear how much I love meat and loathe veggies.
