Gfx in character select screen vs in-game
Does anyone at least know the answer as to why this is the case? I don’t understand why the same level of quality shown in the character select isn’t present in the actual game, where it actually matters.
because of the light beeing different form place to place.
And yes character presentation can be different, because of your graphic or may be for the game not be down on frame. It is not uncommom for Char presentation to be different.

But ‘ts not just the light, as I’ve clearly made sure to mention.
My graphics settings are at their highest.

As a programmer i could tell few simple explinations:
– range texture mapping (characters textures are mapped from atlas as we call it), and distance between your camera and character might be the case. Character in selection is distanced maybe 10 range from camera. But in actual game you can zoom maximum to 50 range. Which means they maybe created that only characters which are zoomed closer then 50 range, are getting the best textures. Better explanation is here http://maryditson.typepad.com/.a/6a00d8341cea4653ef017d411501df970c-800wi
– Other things that make graphics worst are lights, defuse specular and ambient lights that define how some materials are presented. Some lights are stronger then in other ares, and some lights are closer to character in character select, which could be easily seen from character select ( we have a very close light on top right little off center)
I hope this helps.
Is your character model quality set to Ultra?
It’s more than likely just a case that the game can show and display a nice high res textured character in the character select screen as that’s all it is trying to render. All that said, looking at the images I think its down to lighting and area. The Character select screen will have a well lit scene where as the in game could have a number of factors changing the way your character looks. Between the two I see very little differences in texture quality themselves.
…in my opinion anyway!

Yes. The screens I provided are the final results of having max settings enabled. The settings you have enabled effect your character model both in-game as well as character select. That means that the character select page is using the game’s engine to render your characters, obviously. Why, then, do the in-game models not look as good?

There’s quite a difference in the hair mesh as well. Also, AA in-game isn’t at all how it is in character select. But like you said, it could be because there’s nothing else to render. But I argue that not just the characters, but the entire WORLD should reflect the fidelity of the character select models.

If it did, you’d need a higher end machine to play at max settings with the same fluidity.
Frankly, I think GW2 does an excellent job of looking great without being too resource intensive.

Do you have high res character textures enabled?
