Ghastly Grinning Shield
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
Honestly the Grinning Shield is one of the few good looking shields in GW2.
I was waiting so long for the Tormented Shield and find out that it is in GW2 just to small at most races (Just like most skins in GW2 – the size doesnt suit.)
I waited for the Chao Axe just to find out i cant color it like in gw1 -.- (missing my purple chaos axe with purple chaos glows. The merging of bouths is unpayable).
And one point more why are most of the skins just flat. Look at the Tempest Warhorn from the front or back. Also alote of staffs or other weapons (like Dreamthisted Hammer -.-) are just flat. Its a hammer not a dualhanded AXE.
Anet gave us alote of skins that mostly are oversized or to small for alote of races or are just made without any love.
And the Grinning Shield is one of the few good ones, so give it back to the ppl that missed it.
Sry went a bit off topic.

Agreeing with a lot of people here about allowing others to get items they may have missed by ‘not being here at a particular time’. The Mawdrey item is an example of good design, agreeing with Danikat on that too.
The ghastly grinning shield is an awesome skin and many people made their GW2 fortunes off of selling them. That skin is not an example of exclusivity or prestige unless you find that being loaded with gold is both exclusive and prestigious. ( Not talking RL here. Money does buy both there. )
If it can be bought off of the TP then it’s only exclusive/prestigious to those with enough gold/CC credit, and is not indicative of how long the player has been in the game nor whether they were present during the event.
I see mini Liadri and think at the very least that player was persistent and at the best they had awesome skills. That required being at the event and accomplishing ‘something’. Fight for that kind of item if you must but not these BLTP traded ones.
Devs: Trait Challenge Issued
They never said Grinning Shield would be exclusive one time only thing.
Since they didn’t say that, there’s no need to make it one. If they did say that then they should stick with their words.
There’s plenty of first time event items that I got when they released them the first time, then they released them again. I didn’t rage over them and neither should you.
I am glad that I bought mine when I did for 34g.
That being said I think that it is one of the coolest shield skins in the game…too bad I don’t have alot of uses for shields

Bring back ghstaly grinning skin plz
Yesh bring back ghastly grinning skin its almost expensive like a legendary and thats not ok
If you want a exclusive shield skin, make The Flameseeker Prophecies. I’ve seen one player with one of those, in the 2 years I’ve played. One! Ghastly Grinning Shield I’ve seen plenty of (and I find it to be the ugliest shield in the game quite honestly).
Why are people so obsessed with “exclusive” stuff anyways? What sad little pathetic reason is it that drives you to need to be some sort of special snowflake? I’ve gotten 10 legendaries over the past two years. Did I get them because I wanted to be special, no. I got them because they were a challenge to aim for, I wanted to get every weapon a Mesmer can wield as a legendary, and I really enjoy their looks. Do I feel less happy about them now that I see so many others with legendary weapons? Of course not, I still enjoy the look of them, I love to the able to swap stats outside of combat, and at any rate, with transmuted armor, I’ve aimed at creating a distinct look that stands out (and that doesn’t mean everyone likes it, but what matters is that I like it), more so as a whole, than to rely on some silly single item, just a weapon skin. It seems to work even, people say they’ve noticed me when I end up chatting with them.
If you want to stand out, don’t just look at your weapons. Look at your entire appearance. All of your armor, skin color, hair color, hair style, dyes and weapons are what makes you distinct. I’m all for them making every exclusive little piece of event items I’ve gotten over the past 2 years (and I’ve participated in every single one, done every achievement, hunted everything I wanted and even stored up extras of things I didn’t want (which are valued ridiculously high these days)) available for others in some way or form. E.g., I like how Guild Wars does it now. You can get past event-items in the current years event. Perhaps it could incorporate a similar token system; You either buy new stuff they add or maybe you want stuff from the past more, so you go for that with the tokens you collect. Either cap it so you can only get the new stuff or the old stuff, or perhaps a mix of both. Or even let people farm their brains out if so desired (I’d prefer this option, as I hate limitations) to get as many of the items as possible. Old skins, tonics and so on forth could have a more expensive token cost as well. It’d be harder to get them, but at least people could get them. I don’t need to be all that unique and special, I can combine skins from things to stand out in the crowd.
Seafarer’s Rest
Wow, that amount of players being upset about “prestige”…
Every char on my account has a unique style including armor, weapons, minipet and so on – If I meet another player who looks the same that’s totally fine with me. They like that style as much as I do and maybe even 2343246236124 other people like it. I don’t have to be unique as long as I am content with myself.
Time-gated content is not a good thing to have. Statistically the visibility of that content is low, really really low. And it only get’s lower with time going on until it vanishes completely. Is it cool for the designers if their work just never sees the light of day? No it’s not. And, aside from the low visibility, it’s a slap in the face for everyone who didn’t have the chance to play at said timepoint.
If a game goes for 6 years there are a lot of new players who start over the course of those years. Just because they couldn’t play all 6 doesn’t mean they don’t deserve having the same chance on something. If they earn it, it should be theirs.
That’s why there was such an outrage about last years halloween/christmas btw – They decided to make it “different than the previous year” and therefore didn’t introduce the skins again – That pretty much slapped all the players who had no chance playing the year before or just joined afterwards. Given how they handle rewards nowadays though I’m pretty sure they changed that attitude which is nice.
I’m also a huge fan of the season 1 rewards system nowadays. If you didn’t have the chance to get it, there’s still a chance to get it now. Sure, it takes time and money but it is there. Same chances for everyone – That’s exactly the way you should do it
I’d be surprised if they didn’t bring back these skins, if only so the Chinese players have a shot at getting them.
iirc, the halloween weapons were entirely RNG originally, and there’s nothing “prestigious” about being lucky or grinding gold.
I say it will be craftable with Gibbering Skulls.

@ OP Yes.
Arbitrarily making content temporary is never good in a game without good reason, and the only reason half the people in this thread are against it is because their special snowflake points will melt.
Your exclusivity literally means nothing to anyone but yourself. Quit thinking that people care about you having your shield and let people enjoy the game to their maximum potential. People who don’t like the skin won’t get it anyway.
