Play how you want? maybe, but not if you want a legendary. Now that PvP is planned as being mandatory if you want the new generation of legs, time to toughen our skin for that toxic environment of pvp. How I miss the good old time in Aspendwood. If you have objection to this requirement, as I do, nip it in the bud. Here’s a scissors.

And if you read the blog post again you would see there being a statement that Shards of Glory is tradeable, thus you can buy it from the TP if you don’t wish to enter PvP at all.

I wish they weren’t tradeable. The current legendaries already have the feel of needing to do most parts of the game to get them. I like this change.

In a way I do too since PvP is not that scary of a monster people think it to be.. well, it might be if you head into actual PvP rooms but there are daily rooms where you can progress your reward track by 25% per day, so you could get those 2 shards of glory in 4 days… or 3, depending where on the track are the shards located.
WvW on the other hand I can understand why it would not seem that enticing to people in case they’re not on a WvW-active server, not fun to go and do stuff there if your server is being beat down by the other two 24/7.

You know pvpers still have to pve a lot and wvw for that matter for legendary. They actually got it worse than you. I actually will have to complete entire HoT pve content to finally get non-toy troll pistol …eeekkk

I did beta weekends and totally horrified as thief. Might have to actually play other classes just to get that crap done.

Yet another one of these “I can’t play how I want and get exclusive items” complaint threads.

Seriously, legendary weapons are meant to be hard to get and exclusive to those who put in the work to get them. And part of that work is going across many forms of the game.

Dear ANet writers,
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.

dungeons are bad, raids are bad, wvw was bad when world completion was tied to it, pvp is bad. Seriously, this forum makes me wonder if the majority of GW2´s playerbase enjoys anything beside porting to world bosses and autoattack till they get downed and wait for a raise.

Oh no! I have to play PvP and WvW to make an item that is considered the best in the game! Now I have to play all aspects of the game to be considered legendary! Oh no QQ.

Next thing you know people will be all QQ, I can’t buy it from the TP QQ.

Unless I’m mistaken, you can still buy the old legendaries off the trading post with gold earned through playing how you want to. The account bound process is just for the new ones/crafting, and legendary crafting has been like that for ages, the gift of exploration makes me shudder.

I admit I am one of those who think PvP is scary, and the horror stories of getting bashed to all hell b/c you don’t exactly know what you’re doing aren’t helping. If one of the new legs is feasible for me to get, I might go visit though and hope I get someone newb-friendly to explain. Unless I chicken out and go buy that stuff

Just like players who PvP have to do PvE to get their shiny stuff.
But now that it’s the other way around it’s suddenly a problem.

Anyways like others pointed out the items are tradeable.

And hey, not everyone in PvP are little kids that get angry at whatever someone does wrong.
A lot of people welcome new players there because we all know that the more players we have doing PvP. the lower the queue times :P

As others have noted the items will be tradeable.

I would also like to suggest you post in the LFG forum or on reddit asking for a guild (that doesn’t allow toxic players into their arena) to let you join in on their pvp nights. Might even find one that wont require you to rep.(Make sure to offer a tip to the guild leads though because guild pvp arenas aren’t free. They might not take the tip, but offering is always a nice gesture!)

Maybe bring this up to your current guild’s leader(s) and ask them to get a guild arena and have a pvp event once a week or so.

@Cynz play a Rev it feels like thief did on launch in gw2 you know fast and stronK.

Play how you want has nothing to do with earning what Anet is trying to make a prestigious reward. This is the item, This is how you have to earn it.

That’s how you make something semi impressive by not handing them out like candy for anyone who will open their wallet wide enough.

  • “toxic environment of pvp”

It is what you make it. If you want to que up alone you should expect egos to clash and the blame game in any pvp of any game. Sure developers will never admit that because it looks bad but that’s how competitive people get at times.

No one owns up to failure these days and no team based mode is fun with randoms most of the time, especially if they’re wannabe esports or dont communicate.

That being said the legendary isn’t required it’s something you want, so make the most of it and try to get yourself a pvp legendary back piece as well while you’re at it.

Worse comes to worse Top Pvpers could offer their services for gold to carry you if you hate it that badly.

I may be harsh but i care deeply about the game.

I started PvP’ing recently. I had avoided it until this time because I kept hearing about how toxic it is. I have to say though, I have been pleasantly surprised. I’ve never had anyone say anything ugly to me. The few times people have spoken at all its been to offer helpful advice in a friendly manner, but most of the time no one speaks at all. It’s actually pretty fun. I started playing because of the tomes of knowledge, but I’m still playing because I’m enjoying it.

Having these items trade-able makes complete sense and allows players that might not participate in these activities a venue to acquire the material they may need via a common currency (gold) that all game modes produce. +1 on that approach here.

It can be quite toxic in ranked. A majority of people are silent, the next largest grouping are the trash talkers (somewhat expected), followed by the toxic, followed by the good sports. Sadly, people are quick to blame others for their own failings in sPvP. And since their lives are dependent on a game which is meant to entertain…..oh wait.

See what I mean? toxic. Only this much and we got all the sarcasm and sanctimonious statements from the pvp “cool” guys. “look at me, look at me, you pve peasants” attitude. Imagine the degree of malaise whispers from these people when you own them in a match.
Anyhow, thanks for pointing out its tradable on TP, I thought it was just tradable at merchant for gold. Though it is kinda … not right that “glory” can be bought with gold. Personally i will probably earn it rather buying though. Wonder if rewards will be retroactive.

Check the main website pages on the changes to PvP, the source is there. But that said they indicated that the new currency will be added to the reward tracks. So I wouldn’t bet on the retroactive part as of the information so far released. Hope that helps. And don’t get me wrong, there are a mixed lot in pvp. PvP is a blast most times and going in with a group only makes it better, plus you can also just turn off chat when mouthbreathers show up.

There’s idiots in all formats of this game, or any MMO for that matter.

I’ve been playing PvE exclusively the last few months after burning out on pure PvP and it’s funny how many make PvE out to be this land of rainbows, hugs and lollies with rivers of chocolate where bunnies skip and play all day while all the players stand in circles holding hands singing songs of love and all-welcoming joy while PvP is a depraved asylum of debauchery, insults and kitten-slinging.

Mis-informed threads like this do more harm than good, only breeding false animosity before a player has even tried the format. Sure pugging can be rough but that’s true of either format and PvE is not always the hippy holiday many of you make it out to be.

If your having adventurer problems I feel bad for you son, I dodged 99 arrows till my knee took one.

You should see what people are like in fractals when you don’t stack for every single fight, or don’t exploit a flawed encounter design by simply standing in a spot that completely negates the boss mechanics.

You do realize current legendaries require badges of honor right? I have yet to receive a single badge of honor for not participating in any PVP, while some say they have like 3000.

In PVP, I do what I do in PVP, I shoot at people, and if I die, then I die, I literally have no skill, so I’m no good at PVP. I’m not willing to get better either, because I don’t like PVP. I don’t care if you’re one of the types who says “Well, Legendaries requires me to PVE, so I should be just as—” No. Talk to a free account user, who has to play until like 60 before they can do PVP.

Getting killed in 2 seconds on a level 80 character I raised up doing ages in PVE and getting good gear, is not “Fun.”

1: The glory that the thread was about is from SPvP, not World vs World vs World

2: You can enter SPvP before level 60 on a free account, it’s WvWvW that has the level 60 restriction

3: If you’re dying in two seconds, then try running something other than berserker stats/select more defensive traits/utilities. It’s not considered to just a waste of stats to use defensive attributes in PvP, ever attribute it valuable in its own way.

Just an FYI…those that have Badges of Honor without stepping foot in WvW obtain them from Achievement Chests. They give 100-300 or so at a time, I believe.

If you’re scared of the pvp community being hostile, before entering a match turn of map chat from your settings and set your personal settings to offline. To go one step further you can turn of team chat and say chat too. To make it feel as though you are not fighting other players even more, go to your options and set character models to the lowest. Tada now you are just fighting tougher npcs who just happen to have the same classes as players.

I’ve tried that, I still die super easy in soloable PVE Content (Such as Pack Bulls in Silverwastes) even faster on WvW and sPVP. (IE: LB Ranger with Bear Tank and mostly vit/toughness/power exotics level 80)

I’m also not a fan of large rotations or tons of skills, so Engie/Elementalist are both out.
