I was excited about the PvP League and it made me feel I’d pitch in more than I usually would for a chance to work on the Ascension (the idea of having it as a backpack/glider sounded super cool) and I was wandering around the Heart of the Mists trying to grasp everything that was going on until I stumbled on all that was needed to craft the Legendary Backpack/Glider.

One of those was the Gift of the Competitor, which is split in four items that you get from a list of achievements that you need to all resolve within the same PvP league season, and it looked like they were planning four (as in, the PvP Legendary Backpack is time gated to 4 PvP seasons).

I actually was fine with that, except for what those achievements involved: having ranked wins with all the professions in Guildwars 2. The Ascension thus becomes the only Legendary item that needs you to play all the classes.

To which I go “What the kitten?!” and then most of my enthusiasm drains away. I’ve tried a lot of classes since Open Beta 3 years ago, some clicked, others didn’t. I mained ranger for a long while until I got sick of the continual nerfs ANet were subjecting the class to, and then picked up another of the classes I had previously explored and found okay, the Mesmer. I so far don’t play other classes because I can’t make them work or don’t enjoy them… and because of that, I’m denied the chance to complete a fourth of what’s needed to make the PvP Legendary backpack?

That sucks. Getting out of my comfort zone to commit a lot more to PvP was already pretty significant – I felt motivated. But this is setting the bar out of reach as far as I am concerned. Not to mention not everyone has 9 character creation slots too – this ought to have been obvious – why base this on having NINE characters?

You do NOT need to use all 9. You need 11 achievements to fill the Meta and unlock the Item. At least 7 of them aren’t profession dependent at all. So at most you’d need to win 5 games with 4.

Oh, I don’t have to fill them all? Just 11?

Oh.

I guess that escaped me.

Wow. I was super miffed for most of the evening over nothing. Looking at the capstone achievement itself, they’re all different names with no repetition, so this looks like it can be done with just one class.

Thanks for pointing it out to me, Paradox. I guess I fail at reading.

Yay!

Actually, clearing any more profession specific achievements than that of the tier you are on, doesn’t progress the achievement any further.

The class specific achievements only progress the achievement that requires you to clear x number of class achievements and then there are 10 other achievements that has to be done.

It says on the achievement what it progresses.

I think you do need to use at least 2 classes though, as one of the achievements is to complete 2 of the class achieves, not sure if this is part of the 11 total needed though

First tier requires you to complete the achievement for 2 classes. Next 3 tiers require you to complete the achievement for 3 classes, so you don’t need to play any more than 3 classes.
