Teach a dog to fish and yadda, yadda, yadda, lol.

Anyways, as we all know there was a change to the Dailies System a while back, and one of the Dailies that comes up fairly frequently is “Complete four events in [insert zone here].”
Every day that this comes up, I usually just go about my business. Never really takes me more than ten minutes or anything; in out, boom, done. But while I’m doing my daily I’m watching map chat, and people are constantly calling out “Events?” And I see other players being great about it: they ping waypoints, or activate their commanders tags, and just generally lend each other a hand.

And it’s super nice to see, but today while I was doing Field of Ruin Event Completion,
I suddenly got curious, and I asked in map chat “I’m not trying to be snide or anything, but I’m genuinely curious: how many people here actually use the Content Finder?”

The response was basically a massive chorus of “The what now?” So I told them where it was in the menu, and which setting to use to see events, and how it would point you towards the nearest event, and how it actually had a rather extraordinary range. The response I got was basically what could on be described as an explosion of gratitude.

When I originally came on to the forums to talk about this, I was planning on doing a whole “PSA:Content Finder” thing, but then I realized that the people who are least likely to know about the Content Finder are the same people that are least likely to visit the forums.

So instead I’m here asking my fellow experienced and knowledgeable forumites to spread the word. Tagging up and linking waypoints and stuff, all that is really great, and keep that up too. But every once in a while just ask around, “Do y’all know about the Content Finder?” It’s super surprising how many people don’t, and I think we could make a lot of people’s playtime a bit more enjoyable if we helped inform people about this feature.

TL/DR: Every once in a while check in with map chat and tell people about the Content Finder and how easy it can make it to find events. There are a lot of people who will really benefit from what amounts to just a few moments of instruction.

Good call

I would consider myself a GW2 veteran and it was only a couple of weeks ago when I was told about the content finder for events by my bf.

I think the problem is that a lot of players (very familiar to the game before the NPE) just switched the content finder off. It’s similar to a little nagging voice telling you to go a different way to where you actually want/need to go.

But that little nagging voice is excellent if you’re running around aimlessly trying to find events.

If I’m in a daily event area, I’ll be sure to spread the word. It would still be great to see tags up around the map along with pings, but the content guide will help during the phases where people are struggling to find/ping events.

I’m always advising map chat of the content guide whenever I’m in. Responses I often get are similar to “It’s not pointing me to anything but hearts or vistas”

For a lot of people it might be because their characters are new, but I reckon a fair few are the ones that decided the ‘normal’ way of levelling is too slow, so they hopped onto EotM to level instead of doing map completion. (I actually made a satirical YouTube video about this recently in fact!)

But yes – for those of us who have map completion, and even for those who don’t, it’s a very helpful tool. Nice and quick, and today I did my events quicker than those asking for events in map chat, I just silently followed the compass and got them in.

I think for the people who haven’t got map completion (yet) an extra option could be suggested for ‘Events Only’ to the Content Guide options – though I think that might also just delay people doing their map completion even further!

I did not know this existed so it did do some good here in the forums, thank you! Now off to check it out. This is why I sometimes browse the forums. I could care less what the latest ragequit of the day is, but tips like this are priceless.

Build a man a fire, and you keep him warm for a night
Light a man on fire, and you keep him warm for the rest of his life

I like the content finder, I found its best to disable the story part though, otherwise all of my alts will just constantly be reminded that they will never kill Zhaitan

Oooh! Totally good call on pointing that out: I only hang out on characters that have map completion these days, so I forget that there’s no “Events only, no map completion” option. Thanks so much for reminding me!

But still, I think we can all agree that it’s better if as many players as possible are made aware of all the tools that are at their disposal ^.^

Aye, with map completion, it’s only about 10 minutes for me. With a character without map completion, it takes probably at least twice a long, but 20 or 30 minutes or so is still pretty quick anyway for a daily I think, if you consider how long they used to take when the game was first out and you had to do 5 objectives instead of 3

Honestly I completely forgot the Content Director could point to events. I’m always running alts when I do my dailies (map completion + levels + karma = happy me) so it’s always pointing at hearts and things. Good call, and I’ll be sure to ask if everybody knows about it! Spread the word!

I usually do ‘Daily Events’ with only characters that have not finished the map (two birds/one stone thing), so it doesn’t do me much good.

Still, it is good for others that use higher-level characters, or ones that have completed the map. Nice of you to do the PSA. =)

The problem here is that a lot of the really good QoL changes, like show rarity and content finder, were not added to the patch notes.

Pretty sure those were both in their respective Patch Notes.

Content Finder was mentioned in the NPE patch. It just wasn’t advertised as such.
