I used to think (build op, pls nerf) like you, but then I took a nerf to the knee.
I think a fractal armor set (maybe having similar looks as its weapons) would be a good idea.
I also agree that wvw needs a couple more ‘exclusive’ sets as well. Something to work towards, to make badges worthwhile, etc.
I don’t disagree with the OP though, pve would need its own ‘exclusive’ set as well. That could come in the form of legendary armor, the return of FoW armor, harder world bosses getting a full set of droppable armor (like wurm slayer, but being a complete set, which anet could still do), etc.
Then each mode, or major game play component, would offer something “worth chasing.” (Theoretically) Just as we once desired to chase FoW armor, or Vabbian armor, etc.
This is a very reasonable position for this forum.
I don’t understand why people feel the need to turn this into another “us vs them” war, I play all modes (badly) and I don’t begrudge sPVP getting an exclusive set of armour but the “exclusive” PVE armour sets were the dungeon sets which were always accessible through sPVP. So them adding sPVP armour is a good first step but I think they really should add additional “prestige” sets for WvW, PVE and fractals. Which they may be planning on doing in the next few feature packs. (I’m still kinda hoping we’ll see a WvW exclusive set this feature pack though).
The difference is that the so-called exclusive dungeon skins were within anyone’s reach. Especially in the early days of the game, you could get a full dungeon set in a couple of days. Now, you need a week to do so.
The new exclusive pvp armor is accessible only to a handfull of players that get invited to a special tournament. And nobody is denying them their special reward. We are asking for something special for the people that play PVE.
It is incredibly difficult for me to see the new Amberite weapons, Mawdrey, in addition to the large lineup of Legendary / Tequatl / Wupwup weapons and then see requests for something special for people that play PVE.
To be frank.
You cannot have prestige from PvE gear because PvE gear is not about player skill but about character stats (i.e. it isn’t a competition with others, but a competition with math).
What passes for difficulty in PvE is just memorizing exactly what to do and when, something which watching a video once or twice can accomplish for you.
PvP actually separates good players from bad players which allows rewards to be exclusive and prestigious.
If you are playing a game for prestige, then you need to be playing PvP. If you are playing a game for fun, then you need to be playing whatever you find to be fun and not caring about what is going on in the areas that you don’t find fun.
I’d like to add that if he is attempting to play PVE for prestige, he should be working on [Eternity] and not worrying about some armor skin.
She already has Eternity and many other legendaries and expensive weapons. Now that I am satisfied with the weapons on all my alts, I would like to have some really special armor. That is not too much to ask and I am sure that there are plenty of people would appreciate it too. I know several people crafting the Minstrel and other random not-so-special legendaries, because they want special items but nothing else is available.
LoL, almost every new armor skin anet has released has been exclusively PvE…
You think PvPers have ANY chance at all of getting those nice skins in gemstore (without paying real $$)?? At least PvErs , you farm gold/keys and get them and slowly aquire them… but for PvPers to get them? no chance unless they step outside the Mists and actually do PvE stuff, which mind, you is boring to most PvPers…There isn’t something as prestigious as winning a competitive PvP tournament in the PvE side of this game yet… and there won’t be because
a) Casuals are the majority group in PvE
b) If difficult content is added to PvE and that is obviously where such prestigious armor skins would be locked behind, majority of the casual care bears would cry up a storm on these forums and directly to anet about how its too hard to get such prestigious armor. If anet adds exclusive armor skins to PvE, thats great, I got nothing against it, I just don’t see how it will be implemented because gemstore skins are what actually brings money to anets pocket so most new skins for PvErs will always just come from gemstore..
At some point they will have to implement it because you cannot keep the players interest in the game only via gemstore skins.

Well I agree with that, Like I said, I got nothing against PvE getting an ACTUAL reward for doing content, instead of settling for scraps to BUY the reward from a gemshop…
BUT If I look at it from Anet’s point of view… they will do whats best for their wallet lol, and thats gemstore skins
Penguin listed the only “armor set” that is pve exclusive afaik. And it’s not a full set.
I would also love to see a fractal armor set, acquirable only in fractals (not as a pvp reward track!) And have it have obscene requirements so that it feels like a journey. I’d also like to see a similar one tied to wvw. But again… a FULL armor set. Not just gloves shoulders and boots.
Ascended gear boxes are gotten through pvp rewards so that doesn’t exactly count. But the wurm armor, while on the right track, is not exactly what I think we all have in mind when we think of exclusive prestige armor, because getting it is such awful RNG.
I’d love to see something along the lines of creating a new reward, instead of “Pristine Fractal Relics” once your personal ranking hits 50 you get “immaculate fractal relics” which are used to purchase fractal skins. Something like that would be amazing. BUT… not holding my breath =/
SkiTz has it right. Nothing in PvE is unique and everyone does the same content. Is it just because you feel left out of the PvP armor rewards? PvP deserve their rewards. It is hard and tough to play through.
PvE players have dungeon armor, etc that they can get. What do PvP players get – nothing. Now that there is a reward, people are complaining. Sorry OP, get over yourself.
There are already tons of different skins unavailable to WvW/sPvP players who don’t play PvE.
And PvE is already by far the most updated part of GW2.
I will try to explain this a little better, because people seem to get hung up on the: “let’s take away the special reward from the poor pvpers” and get deffensive. This is not the point of this topic.
With the new feature pack Anet is introducing two new PVP armors
1) One regular set that you can obtain by playing pvp and anyone who follows the reward track can get it. That is awesome and I am happy that pvpers can entertain themselves with it.
2) A special set that 10 to 20 players will win through an external tournament. A set that happens to have awesome looks and that none of you will ever be able to lay your hands on it.
In the mean time, PVE is flooded with a variety of armor skins that mean nothing.
And we are discussing ARMORS, not weapons, mini’s or other random stuff.

Again…it means nothing to YOU..maybe to others they feel a sense of accomplishment when they finally get lucky with RNG or bust their tails off farming keys to finally unlock a skin they want…That means something to a lot of players, just not to you
And you still haven’t answered, where is anet going to put such a prestigious PvE armor set if they were to add it???? there’s nothing REMOTELY challenging or prestigous in PvE… I’ve seen plenty of videos of people soloing dungs and soloing lvl 50 fracs lol..(of course both of these things require skill and a lot of practice, but be real, anet isn’t going to add prestigious award based on soloing dungs/fracs..)

Those people are farming keys ot unlock a WEAPON skin. A weapon is not an armor. Once you have unlocked several special skins for all weapon types, you want to improve your armor’s looks as well. And yes, you are right, it doesn’t mean anything to me to unlock a black lion weapon skin, that can be purchased from the TP for 60 gold.
It is not my place to propose how a prestigeous armor should be acquired. I am just stating that me and many others will be highly interested in obtaining one of those. There could be a complicated scavanger hunt, new crafting recipes, a new harder dungeon, higher fractal tiers. Anything!

I would love to see those things happens haha, thats the thing thou, you need difficult/prestigious content first before you can even think about adding the reward.
Prestige PvE armor should be tied to extremely difficult and skillful content, not based around RNG or grinding.
Currently there’s absolutely nothing in PvE that would justify implementation of this kind of an exclusive armor.
Winning sPvP tournament requires great dedication, skill and effort, contrary to using your credit card on gems or getting lucky using mystic forge.
In my opinion there should be more exclusive sPvP and WvW armors to reward the most dedicated players.
I have exclusive gem store sets.
But in all seriousness, I don’t mind PvP “only” armour.
What I would wish for is for more diversity in regards to karma vendors. Everywhere you see the same skins. This could have been made more fun.
What would prestigious PvE armour be anyways? We already dismissed the crafted armour – because that’s just a grind and not prestigious, dungeon armour doesn’t count because it’s 2 years old and “they” can have it too and it’s just a grind, cultural armour doesn’t count because well, you just buy that for gold.
Leaves fractals? Might as well call it “raid” armour and be done with it, hehe. Again I would not mind. Make it so you can use up all your rings and things I read about that are just worthless after a while.

There are plenty of extremely dedicated PVE players and our preferred choice of gameplay should not be belittled nor deprive us of more elite rewards.
BUT, what armor does PvP have exclusively? NONE!! They have one now and that is for people who are putting in the time and playing the sPvP tournament. I say good fro them. I will cheer them on!!!
Actually, it has at least two, tribal armour (light) and stalwart armour (medium). The full set of stalwart was only attainable in sPVP but you can get a couple of pieces of stalwart armour from the personal story. Mind you, both have been effectively removed from the game since the wardrobe was introduced (if you don’t already have it now you can’t get it any more).
Anyway, looking at the main game “modes”:
The skins for all non-exotic karma sets and any other blue/green/yellow/exotic equipment that drops from mobs can be bought from the TP so they’re available to anyone who wants to get them.
That’s the current state of play, I’m glad to see them adding these sets of armour to the sPvP area of the game but I hope to see the gaps in this rest of the line-up addressed in the future. New WvW sets for heavy armour at least, a set for fractal runners and a prestigious set for dungeon runners which perhaps requires a lot of tokens from all the dungeons and can only be obtained from a vendor at the end of a dungeon. I’d also like them to add at least one open-world PVE set, for helping in certain areas, not for karma but for some other method of marking contributions.
There isn’t any prestigious PVE gear, actually.
Ascended Armor is Armor tier, not an Armor skin as such. There’s no amazement about it. And ultimately anyone can acquire it with a bit of effort.
The problem is PVE is that we don’t have any proper prestige. It’s either RNG, or hyper grind, and those are the remotely high tier cool looking stuff. Neither are sufficient. We need something actually challenging. Like..
I dunno. Maybe Armor bits that require a 5 minute Tequatl kill or something. I dunno. I’d say PVE itself is really hit or miss in general. It’s either so hard that you can’t do it alone. Or so easy that it’s not a challenge in the slightest. But that’s neither here nor there.
Penguin listed the only “armor set” that is pve exclusive afaik. And it’s not a full set.

agree….if one were to add a “prestigious pve armor set”….it should be earned in fractals (the most difficult content available in pve).
that said, they should be adding more in-game earned armor skins….period. add ’em to loot tables in wvw and champs in pve.
There isn’t any prestigious PVE gear, actually.
Because, by it’s nature, PvE isn’t prestigious. There’s nothing prestigious about learning to beat an unchanging AI. The AI in this game doesn’t learn or adapt its tactics based on the situation. It does what it’s programmed to do. Learning how to beat it (in many cases by simply getting enough people together and spamming 1) is not prestigious, it’s expected.
I have a lot of issues with this game and with ANet, but sPvP exclusive rewards certainly isn’t one of them. I would consider it a baby step in getting more people into what should have been the defining aspect of the game (next steps: balance and diversified game modes).
Fract weapons and wurm armor is PvE only, see no problem sPvP guys get some shiny stuff to that you only get for pvp

To be fair, what is prestigious about the reward track armour? The one reserved for tournaments is from my viewpoint, the other one only shows that you did pvp, just like any pve armour shows that you pve’d?

Never said reward track armor was prestigious, only that PvE, by definition, is not. In fact, prestige is not what this discussion should even be about, hence my second paragraph.
As I said before, there is nothing special about the Ascended Armors. They only require time to be crafted, nothing else. On top of that, most people were hugely displeased with their aesthetics and instantly reskinned them.
But it does require exactly what you wanted the PvE exclusive set to require. As stated in your original post:
I wish Anet would introduce an equally prestegius armor set, that could be craftable through PVE rewards and activities. I wouldn’t even mind paying 100 pristine relics per piece.
The Ascended Armor sets require either getting lucky and getting chests from specific content.
Or being crafted, which require doing multiple types of specific content. They exist even if you don’t like them.
This was merely a suggestion from my part. Basically, if I say:
*let the new armor come from a really hard new dungeon, people will isntantly say that no dungeon will ever be hard enough, blah blah blah. And I will keep getting references to old GW1 dungeons that are completely irrelevant to this game.
*if I mention a scanvenger hunt, like the one for the new backpiece, I will instantly get the replies about spamming 11111 on world bosses.
*my crafting suggestion brought the ascended armor replies.
*and then, of course, there is the crazy grinding part. But for something harder to obtain, instead of geodes. That’s why I suggested the pristine fractal relics.
What we basically need is legendary armor.
Dedicated PVE players ask for more challenging and complex content though, not just rewards. Also are legendary weapons that exclusive? You just need alot of gold or time, nothing difficult involved here. You state ascended gear grind is annoying but not hard, well to me there is no difference between grinding ascended armor and Legendary weapon farming, both are bottemline boring. Secondly, you ask for exclusive armor, if everybody can gain enough fractal relics or tokens, is it really exclusive???
From memory only the liadri challenge was a little bit skill related, and Arenanet did reward you with a cool title.
Now while I find your arguments for justifying exclusive armor skins very weak, I do agree some more cool skins would be nice ( this goes for all gameplay modes). To be quite honest PVE and WVW are probably getting some more exclusive skins this year, till then be glad pvp is getting promoted and you are infact expected to be satisfied with current skins. Cause quite frankly, content and reward wise, PVE in general gets the best updates through living story etc. Bottemline some players feel the need to work towards a goal in this game, but currently the three major game modes (PVP,WVW, PVE) all can use some updating there, however of these 3 pve gets the most updates by far ( which is telling something with the same dungeons being in game for over a year now).

What’s wrong with the dungeon armor sets?
What’s wrong with them you ask? That they are lame bland and boring the only decent one being the arah set, they are way to easy to obtain you can get the full set in a couple of days and they are no where near as nice as the gem store armors.
What are you going to do in your PVE armor? Farm? It’s pointless. At least in PVP it would mean something for people to see you have achievement armor. In PVE it means nothing to anyone.
I wish Anet would introduce an equally prestegius armor set, that could be craftable through PVE rewards and activities.
pve only?
prestigious?
craftable?
you mean like your ascended armour?…
honestly its starting to annoy me that when pvp finally get something unique you all complain about how you have nothing despite the dozens of Living world/holiday rewards that were only acquirable for a short time and only in pvp, plus you already have your legendaries, ascended weapons, asscended armour, you have SO MUCH.
give me your legendaries, give me your living world back items, give me your ascended weapons and armour and then you can complain about our armour set!
So an armor set awarded to the five players with the fastest Arah solo runs, or something like that ?
So an armor set awarded to the five players with the fastest Arah solo runs, or something like that ?
And it has to look extremely good. Because if it doesn’t, it doesn’t count.
PvP gets one set of armor, and you throw a tantrum.
i don’t get the pvp pve split stuff.
it’s like people who pvp are not playing guild wars 2 in the eyes of the pve people
It happens in every game, it would seem, and still doesn’t make sense years later. The silliest part of it is that PvE involves a lot of different things with players who have different mindsets – anything from jump puzzles to organized dungeons. And in GW2, PvP involves different things with different mindsets – WvW, which is, as I understand it, more about long-term strategy than direct confrontation. Or sPvP, which is, as I understand it, more about short-term competitive matchups.
Point is, a certain crowd of people love to lump both of them into single-glob definitions that are supposed to magically cover a kittenload of people with varying expectations and preferences concerning the game.
It’s kind of like the whole Democrat-Republican divide in American politics. It’s a farce more than anything, used to push agendas. You can’t lump everybody into these shoehorned definitions of play, or claim that the devs are favoring one definition over another, when the reality is that most game modes aren’t going to get a lot of attention, regardless of what definition they fit; it’s just the way development works.
It is as simple as that: PVE needs a special armor set that people can work towards, regardless of how others deem this game mode’s prestige, difficulty level etc.
I don’t see why such a set’s existance would upset other people. Every person’s ingame activities have a merit, be it winning a pvp tournament or gathering 50 000 Arah tokens. Neither is worth more than the other.
Isn’t something like this already available?
Ascended Armor sets.
They are “craftable through PVE rewards and activities” and have unique skins. As I said before, there is nothing special about the Ascended Armors. They only require time to be crafted, nothing else. On top of that, most people were hugely displeased with their aesthetics and instantly reskinned them.
While I’m shocked to be siding with lordkrall in this, I feel I have to.
As for your argument concerning Ascended armor “only requiring time”. I believe that will be the stance taken on everything related to PvE. Granted if they were to introduce a PvE version of this prestige armor, those with more skill than others would likely get it faster. YET it would still be obtained by those with less skill that just kept at it. In PvE that is a given.
I don’t see why such a set’s existance would upset other people. Every person’s ingame activities have a merit, be it winning a pvp tournament or gathering 50 000 Arah tokens. Neither is worth more than the other.
It’s funny. You say that ascended armor only requires time, then when you try to find a PvE equivalent to a PvP tournament, you come up with “50 000 arah tokens”.

I was giving a random example. I wasn’t even trying to find an equivalent as I do not find any merit in winning a pvp tournament.
I’m all game for a Fractals Armorset. That would be terrific. A reason to hop back into fractals for me haha! Hell, I am back in the game just to chop wood for foxfire clusters…
While I agree that top PVP players should get a special reward for their effords, I strongly believe that there should be a correspondant set for the people that prefer PVE.
I was giving a random example. I wasn’t even trying to find an equivalent as I do not find any merit in winning a pvp tournament.
So there we have it. You hate PvP and you are simply bitter that you cannot get something you want by playing an aspect of the game (and a major one) you dislike.
Next time, just come outright with it so everyone can save time with useless arguments.

I am not bitter and I do not hate pvp. I have quite high rank there as well. The news of an exclusive pvp amor made me think that we need a similar for pve as well. That is it. My arguments are not useless and I will keep on defending my position.
The only armour that comes close to being kinda “prestigious” currently in game is the tier 3 cultural armour sets, and that is only because they have a decent gold sink.
I am happy that the PVP community will receive a unique armour set, but i am so sick and tired of wearing the Human Heavy Tier 3 Cultural armour set! I have been wearing it since launch!
It’s time that PVE had some good looking new armour that is attainable via either a gold sink or difficult content.
Ascended gear is the only set of armour that has been added to the game since launch, how many years has this game been out and they have only made ONE new armour set?! UNEXCEPTABLE!!! (Lemongrab voice)
Also keep in mind that PVP requires less unique armour sets because the difficulty of getting them is significantly higher.
Prestigious PVE set: obtainable by everyone within there own time and theme/look of armour sets change in relation with the story being tolled.
Prestigous PVP set: obtainable by everyone interested in PVP, time restricted, rewarded to those who rank highly/first place in tournaments, theme/look of set is not based on current story meaning it can look like anything and wont need to change as much to relate.

- sPvP has the two sets mentioned above (for those who already have them) and will have two new exclusive armours sets: Glorious and Glorious Hero, Glorious Hero is top-end tournament only, but some people seem to forget that the other will be available to anyone who plays sPvP through an sPvP track, you won’t have to play well to get this, just play, although good players will obviously have an easier time of it. I think this is great news and I’m really happy about it!
- WvW has unique light and medium skins but the heavy skins are also shared with PvE.
- Dungeon PvE players have their dungeon sets shared with sPvP.
- Open-world PvE players have a partial armour set in the Wurmslayer armour. Open world PvE players also have karma armour (temple armour sets and other, non-exotic “levelling” sets). Any karma armour is readily available to both WvW and open-world PvE players as it just requires karma.
- Fractal players have no exclusive armour sets.
- Crafted armours including ascended armour are available to players in all modes (although open-world PvE players definitely have easiest access to mats). Crafting is not PvE, it’s PvBankBalance.
Sorry – since the advent of the Wardrobe, there is NO PvP EXCLUSIVE SKIN. It is obvious you have bot been in the game since then.
Just gonna toss my 2c in, not that it matters.
There are plenty of armor skins in PvE. Plenty, and I am not even talking about the Gem Store armor skins or outfits. The variety of looks this game offers is quite huge, it’s just that you are bored after 2 years and want something new. You don’t need armor skins to be a successful gamer at this game. I have no issue with Anet keeping the fresh skins in the gem store. It monetizes the game and it’s continued development and maintenance.
New things get added with living story and expanded pve content as the game develops. I really just don’t see the issue.
Well, I’d be in favor of new armor that can be obtained in PvE, “prestige” or not. More skins good.
The essence of the fancy PvP armor’s “prestige” is that it is skill-gated. You must have enough skill to win a PvP tournament. It is not based on time spent, RNG, or money.
The closest thing to a skill-gated skin in PvE would be green/yellow SAB weapons. You have to beat the not-nice platformer, you cannot get it with little or no effort by being lucky, no one can carry you through it.
If an item must be exclusive/difficult to obtain, I think skill-gating is the best way. Straight-forward grind is not as good. RNG is the worst. For example, it’s good that they added a way to get amber weapons via PvP now.

I would argue that no game mode is prestigious.
Anyone can join WvW from level one. Anyone can join PVP from rank one after their first character on their first level.
PVP has been neglected in at least some areas – I agree to that – but to say PVE is truly not prestigious solely because it’s PVE is incredibly incorrect.
I agree.
We already have some hardcore skins to work for in Fractals but some of the posters above have really nailed the feeling that I have regarding this topic.
Been wearing Human Cultural Tier 3 almost since launch. It’d be nice if we finally got more awesome skins for in-game activities.
Especially rare and prestigious ones.

I did say that in my third sentence. I’m amazed that you apparently didn’t read that far.
PvP gets one set of armor, and you throw a tantrum.
Yeah, because ANet always used the excuse that they don’t have the resource for prestige armors but it seems it’s fine if it’s about PvP and only a handful of people can get it. Double standards ftw.

When did they use that ? I remember the “cultural armors are a waste of resources” (which they are) but nothing else.
In my opinion, i respect you OP, but…. prestigeus PVE armor? I tought ascended armor was prestigeus PVE armor. And i think PVP deserves armor on their own, there is plenty PVE armors in game. How come nobody rants about that weapons wvw players got for playing wvw?
no one mentioned SAB weapons yet? the yellow ones are kittening bawss. and the green were pretty tough too. its not armor, but theyre hella prestigious.

how can ascended armor be prestigoues
it needs only money/gold
and a few braindead worldboss and cakewalk dungeon farms
how is it exclusive in any way?
the only exclusive+prestige skins in pve are fractals skins (the only!)
also neither ANY of the gemshop armor or dungeon armors are in ANY way pve exclusive armor sets like many people here said… thats just totally wrong
im happy about the pvp exlusive armor set
and the main reason is not that it is pvp exclusive but that it is exclusive
something only few people can achieve!
but in pve there is not a single armor set that isnt super super easy to get…
what i want is some ULTRA HARD pve achievement or better: many many many ultra hard pve achievements combined to achieve 1 armorpiece alone
gold price doesnt matter … the skill requirement is what counts!!!!
if you compare ascended armor to the pvp armor that would be like
as if the pvp armor just took 5 pvp reward tracks to get
EVERY noob could get the pvp armor set then
ofc it would take time but ZERO skill…. just like the ascended armor set right now
because the ascended armor set really takes ZERO skill … just braindead worldboss farm where you press 1…. some easy peasy dungeons for empyreal fragments…. and the bloodstone dust is dropping everywhere anyway…
so how can you call ascended armor prestigous in ANY way????
there is not a single prestigous armor set for pve right now and that is the problem
pvp has something worth 10000000x more than ALL of the pvestuff combined
something exclusive
even thr worst people can get all the pve armors if they just do it in tiny steps
the pvp armor though cant be farmed with reward track in tiny steps
… either you have the skill to get it or not —> prestige set --> something that pve doesnt have at all

Prestige is laughable concept in any game. Couldn’t care less about what you have or think you have. Limiting choice, now that’s something I do care about. And, a game where the end game is appearance items, it should not limit choices. It’s simply not good economically.
