Glider In core tyria and jps
Yes just change your glider button from the option menu
Where is this option?
I can’t see it in either the main options menu or the Controls menu, but it would be really useful for me, in a lot of situations, not just jumping puzzles.

re":Where is this option? – I think that Acnologia did not fully read/understand the OP, and is just referring to changing keybind for the combined jump/glide key.
If I’m wrong, please correct me.
I think Acnologia got the question very well, but deemed it unworthy of a serious answer.
@OP: I absolutely agree. Everytime it takes me longer to finish an easy JP because the glider popped up unintentionally, I am longing for an option to deactivate gliding. Alternatively, they could deactivate it in all JP areas.
Actually, as someone who has helped other newer people through locations like Heart of Thorns, etc, as well as jump puzzles, I’d like to be able to simply turn all mastery skills on and off.
Guiding a friend through Verdant Brink, but they don’t have Nuhoc wallows or lean gliding? open panel, uncheck those skills, and now you can play at the same level they do. When I jump off a high point, I prefer to not have to guess how much endurance a friend has left, if I can turn off advanced gliding, etc., I can guide them through a lot easier.
Tap the jump key, don’t mash it.
Yes, would either love a check box for on/off or to be able to separately key bind the function that’s not tied to jumping would be greatly appreciated. If they went back and improved, added and fix a lot of the zoning for the no fly areas that would also be appreciated.
Whichever is quickest and less dev work I’m all for, something really does need to be done with this. Been frustrated about it since the feature went in and it’s a shame since I love(d) the updates that put in gliding and core Tyria gliding.
no i was serious. in jps even the double tap for dodge can make you fail so changing the key disposition from options can solve this problem.
Uhm. You are aware of the fact that there is no separate key bind for Gliding? That is the whole point of this thread…
Oh… lol you are right. Nvm deleting previous comments xD
Having toggables would be nice for those that needs this, But will have to tell the game to force it to re-activate when you re-enter the HoT Maps so you don’t accidently ooppies fall into the pit of the abyss and die by the vines belows.
A simplier option is seperating the glide from the spacebar and letting you turn it “off” without accidently pulling the glider out.
Tap the jump key, don’t mash it.
You do realize that is going against learned behaviour in EVERY jumping game since the 80s right? That is about as helpful as saying ‘get gud’ when someone reports an accessibility problem with an easy fix. Plus it is not always mashing, it can come down to your internet connection.

This is a good idea. Maybe a little glider icon that you can click, and it highlights to show when you’ve manually turned your glider to no fly or not. And if you are in a no fly zone, the glider icon just gets turned red or something.
I like the idea of being able to turn any mastery off.
The one that bothers me most is the speed boost in cities. It makes the Lion’s Arch jumping puzzles (the long one in particular) far harder than they should be, because there’s so many precise jumps that are easy to overshoot when you’re stuck with a speed boost you’re not used to having. And the same is true with some vistas and simply trying to climb things for screenshots. I don’t normally use speed boosts so it throws me every time that my character moves differently just because they happen to be in a city.

Kinda awkward one puzzle has rthe disabled glide icon showing, and others not. Inconsistency as always from anet.

Don’t argue with idiots, they pull you down their level and own you with experience.
I retrained myself to be more careful with how long I press the jump key. As a result, I’m better at jumping. I think the OP should reconsider whether it’s better to wait for ANet to change the game or figure out how to change their technique.
I think my issue is visual lag when jumping, being sure that the tap is registered, releasing when I see the start of the jump. Turning down graphics helps a bit but if the JP is flooded with lots of players, sometimes it’s seems like the tolerance between the jump key registering Vs glider deployment is just to narrow.

Yep there are many issues that can impact your jumping ‘tap’ and isn’t as easy as ‘figure out how to change their technique.’ in some cases.
I’m all for toggles and choices.
However, it amazes me that I, an ageing gamer with sometimes hard to control hands and fingers, have never had a problem with gliders in jumping puzzles, and there are so many younger (presumably) , and healthier (also presumably) people who do have problems.

Upper middle age with epilepsy here so prob not a good assumption.
Anyway, there are multiple things that can affect when you see a jump on a screen and when the glider deploys (and the delta between them). For example, just the network between you and the server is enough to make a difference,

Gliding is only disabled in areas where it would trivialise the puzzle.
For example for most of Morgan’s Spiral gliding won’t help you so it doesn’t matter if it’s enabled, but when you get into Dark Reverie you could glide from the upper entrance to almost the end, so gliding is disabled.
It’s common sense really.

No it isn’t, actually there are some puzzles you can skip half of it easily with gliding. Where as there are puzzles where gliding is disabled but you cannot have an advantage anyway.

The idea of disabling glider to all puzzles is not a bad one, but they must leave out of the list the two newest, Chalice of Tears and Searing Ascent, since both are in great need of gliding.
Blocking to every single of the old ones which all are proven that can be done without glider (even SW one despite i have found a comfy shortcut with glider and i ‘d hate to lose it, kinda like the story station in Goemm’s lab that got nerfed, and revamped troll’s revenge in LA) is the best solution, though the ability to disable glider any time you like wont hurt and it will probably satisfy more people.

It is not as much JPs that annoy me as I rarely do them. With me it is vistas. Gliding made some frustrating ones easier but it also made some medium-difficulty ones want to make me smash my monitor.
