I’m at 50% right now, and IM PULLING MY HAIR OUT!!! ARGH GOD! The boredom, the frustration, the endless wandering for that one vista that seems out of reach. Makes me wanna slam my head through my monitor. How do you guys cope? What helps you get through the exploring grind? Share any tips on how to get it done faster? All are appreciated.

There’s YouTube videos for all the frustrating and hard to figure out exploration stuff. So if I can’t figure something out to the point of frustration, I search Google and watch one of the videos. You don’t even have to watch the whole thing. Just skip forward in the video to the clues you need.

Focus on hearts, because once they are gone, you have very little direction, leaving a lot of exploration up to you. I know it sounds kinda weird to focus on them, but I found that a lot of the exploring stuff was made easier if I focused on doing the Hearts while exploring. Also, if you are having trouble trying to find vistas, I suggest searching for the vista (use “<Location> Vista” to find them, with <Location> being the area that your minimap says on hover); you’ll find a lot of the “hard” vistas are actually quite easy once you figure out where to start.

If it’s not fun, don’t do it. Do something you enjoy instead of something that will only give you a star by the side of your name to impress on people that won’t even remember you.

And if you’re going for the legendries then I must say I’m sorry that I have no good answer to you.

[EDIT]: except for mayby. Don’t try to stress it. Go finish a zone to 50% or untill you get bored and then go do something else that you enjoy(WvW, dungeons or whatever now you want to do) go back when you feel like it and keep going like that. there is no rush the game will be out for many years to come and you will have plenty of time to make it.(unless the world really does end this year. But then we will have much greater problems than pixles on a screen right?)

As previous answer said, divide your time between doing different things rather than going on a map completion marathon. Unless you plan to stop playing this game in a month or two, you have plenty of time to explore before you need that achievement, for the sake of it or for legendary equipment.

Going on a marathon of anything will get boring quickly.

wow. is that really how you view it?

For me it was a journey. I’ve never been a completionist in my life, but I felt compelled to do it in GW2, because I love the world, the mythos, the races(Quaggan!).

The only thing that was not always fun where the Hearts. But getting everything else… many of them where a real challenge. Vistas that were hard to reach, had to scout the map for hours and endless ways. same with PoIs.

It was a journey. it was difficult. every zone i 100% felt good. and further you got done doing it, working a bit every day towards the goal, while collecting materials I got better rewards and more money. while doing this simultaniously, I got my exotic gear and my exotic weapons! and exotic accessories, rings and amulet.

100% was my characters rite of passage. it felt good. it feels really good and im so happy ive done it. best accomplishment in a video game for years for me! most meaningful. did it at my own pace, in my own time, in my own way. its how i like soloing in MMOs. mad respect to ArenaNet for building an amazing world.

Do it with a friend or two, or solo with some awesome music to jam to! :P

Honestly, you don’t have to have 100 map completion if you’re not having fun doing it.

It was pretty fun, or well, until Orr. I thought the Clock Tower was hard when I did it, but nope, exploring Orr is even harder. Worst part of this game to me. At 96% atm, still have to explore Cursed Shore and the 2 temples that are always taken in Malchor’s Leap.

Orr was pretty tough, though I did it pretty early in the process. That and WvW. I figured I had to get through those first. If I couldn’t get that done, there would be not reason to do the others.

Overall I had fun, but I enjoy the overall layout of a zone in this game, including hearts. I especially like ones where I don’t have to fight, I find them fun and a nice change.

Some zones were tougher than others, but as others have said, just use YouTube and guides and don’t get frustrated.

Yes. You can explore and discover contested waypoints. You just can’t teleport to them.

If you aren’t enjoying it don’t do it.

If you want to do it anyway but are finding it too grindy, just pick an area and explore half of it each day. If you’re still in the mood, then go ahead and finish the area…then stop.

They’ll get done, there really isn’t that many of them.

I’ve slowed down quite a bit, and am definitely treating it more like a casual pursuit than a race now.

Given the cost of porting around, I do wish there were a better way to track zone completion from the world map.

Or if there is a way to tell which zones are still incomplete from a high-level view, I’d love to know it.

The wvwvw parts are the ones that suck for 100%.

With many of the matchups being severe blowout matchups, that’s what’s stopping me from completing.

I only have Stonemist castle, and the locations in the SW corner of eternal battlegrounds left to complete 100%.

Of course, Dragonbrand hasn’t had a matchup that hasn’t been totally 1 sided against us in over a month now.

How do I do it? I do it because it’s fun. But, like others said, sometimes ya get bored ah the map yer on … but ya don’ have ta stay there. If I’ve seen enough ah Kryta for awhile, I’ll just leave an’ explore the Norn lands, or Charr lands a bit … you can always come back an’ finish those maps later.

I’m sorry I stepped outta yer box, don’ worry, if
ya whine enough they’ll put me right back.

Really got to pace yourself My tactic has been to 100% every zone I need to in order to get to the next Story point, and then to 100% all the newbie zones because it’s just fun every so often to lord over a place with overpowerment.

But I don’t recommend trying to do it all at once. I also keep seeing world 100% complete bugs in the Bugs forum, so I figure: what’s the rush?

I agree with that statement. The only time i felt impatient, was around 80-90% because it seemed repetitive to me.

But the good thing in this game is, you have no obligation of doing anything. If you are bored of this, you can temporarily do another activity. Another idea is to change the type of zones you are exploring.

When i was bored of Kryta, i was going to Ascalon or another zone.

It wasn’t too bad when I teamed up with friends. IF we were in a voice chat and could carry on non-GW related conversations as well; it went by much faster.

The last 98% that had me in WvW was the worst though. It dragged on and on and on and on and…

I honestly have little intention to get 100% on any of my alts. Once was enough

So, having a friend with you may help. Outside that, not much advice I can give. I too found it mind numbing at times.
