I know a recent patch changed the behavior of stacking on kill sigils. (Bloodlust, Corruption, …) The stack now disappears as soon as the weapon that holds the sigil is unequipped. Makes perfect sense.

But going underwater is apparently considered unequipping (land) weapons as well. One (accidental) plunge and the stack is removed. That is very annoying, especially when roaming in WvW. I always try to swim on the surface when crossing water, but can’t always avoid going under when entering water.

Arenanet, please change this!

Can’t be done. This was done to fix the workaround where people had bloodlust stacking sigils on their underwater weapons, stacked bloodlust and then keep the stacks when they exited water.

When you go under water you get the water weapons equipped.

Since you did not grow extra hands, the other weapons are unequipped.

I think, you can keep the stack if you have that same sigil on one of the underwater weapons.

Can anyone confirm this?

I have the Bloodlust sigil on both my land and underwater sets of weapons. I don’t lose the stack when I go in and out of water.

Is confirmed. But once you swap weapons at land, they will disappear anyways. ArenaNet took the cheapest way possible to fix that exploit. Between the sigil changes and that patch where ArenaNet “fixed” it people simply put all stacking sigils onto their water weaponry, so you could get stacks at land with a land weapon holding the sigil, and after stacking simply exchange said weapon for another one.
Now you have to have at least one sigil in one of both sets at land and under water. Otherwise you lose stacks entering water, or will lose stacks by swapping weapons at land after exitin water.

I simply dont understand why they didnt fix it properly. Is it that hard to make sigil stacks stick with the weaponset they have been produced? Well, i´m asking a company who isnt able to make the kitten rebreather use the stats, rune and infusion of the proper land headgear piece, apparently.

Thanks for the clarification, Bandicoot.

I see this has been discussed at length in the other forum thread. I assumed this was intentional and not a bug because I knew changes were made to counter exploits. Now that I know you lose the stacks anyway on weapon swap… Maybe I should have posted this in the bugs section. No way they made it this complex intentionally.

Well… This sucks. I repeat my question: Arenanet, please fix!

Hopefully fixed so that the stacks can only be gained from 1 sigil on weapon, any other sigils shouldn’t trigger. Removing that weapon which was used to gain the stacks should result the loss.

The solution is to put a Bloodlust sigil on one of you underwater weapons…..stacks will stay in or out of water as long as you don’t CHANGE weapons.

….. Well, i´m asking a company who isnt able to make the kitten rebreather use the stats, rune and infusion of the proper land headgear piece, apparently.

So you think they should fix one exploit an introduce another? Your rebreather IS your underwater headgear, so why should it use your normal one’s stats? The real solution is to put decent crafting and availability of LVL 80 re-breathers with variation in stats not introduce some equipment exception into the game.

Some confusion should be cleared.

Taking a weapon from your inventory and placing it instead of a weapon that has a stacking sigil will remove the stack AS IT SHOULD!

Using the switch weapon set key, to only toggle between currently equipped weapons will not lose the stacks… if you have two stacking sigils of the same type, one on your land set, and one on you underwater set, you should never lose the stacks unless you try to switch to a weapon from your inventory….

Just to add to this, as a single weapon slot user (Ele’ or Engi’) if you need to change land weapon (assuming you have the same sigil on original land weapon, water weapon and new land weapon) mid map, if you swap land weapons underwater you will not loose your stacks.
I know it’s not always convenient (or even possible) but it does work.
