Gold Spammers and Private Mail!
Quite Easy, – someone is thier joiting down every name that runs past them, wish they would take my name off thier list as its getting :\
I’m sorry but this is completely out of control now!
Logging in at 1: 00 AM GMT this morning 16th Sept, i found four messages in my mailbox offering gold and the map chat was an endless stream of spam for several different gold selling websites for about 60 seconds!
My love for GW2 is beginning to wane, i’ve seen RMT’s practically destroy MMO’s in the past, the damage done to the economy in the long run can be devastating and to say it’s an immersion killer is an understatement!
FFXI was practically bought to it’s knees because of RMT’s and it looks like GW2 is going the same way, yes i know we are all reporting but that doesn’t help when Anet refuse to comment on the ongoing measures being taken to stop these people. (link please if there is one)
Some of the messages are offering amounts of gold that could only have been procured through exploits/cheats or other nefarious activities, clearly there is a major problem going on in the background somewhere.
I don’t care about buffs/lag/balancing or even the trading post working properly….Stop the RMT’s!
Is it possible that the bots or whatever is being used to send out all these mails can somehow see a list of all online players on the game or in an area? That’s actually a kinda scary thought.
I think that people are worrying too much about this. It’s an annoying message that doesn’t actually do you any harm at all unless you are silly enough to follow the links and go through the process. Sure you might have some issues if you’re getting 10 mails and are expecting mail messages from legitimate players, but otherwise: it’s just mail.
A couple days ago someone pointed out on a map chat that ANet has filters that prevent (and maybe auto-report?) gold-spammers. Someone would have to confirm that, but I hope they are in place. The issue with that is sellers are tweaking the messages slightly (like turning a letter O into a 0 or something). That seems like something that could be fixed by adding specific parts of the messages to the filters, not the entire message.
Even though I think these mails and chats are just annoying and not actually harmful (therefore, they’re being made a huge deal), I do think they need to figure out a better way to handle them. Although RMT’s should stay at a low-ish priority compared to the things that are actually going wrong in the game that are interfering with gameplay more than just a mere annoyance.
To whom do you actually send a mail in general? To character or account name? Because frankly, all our account names are here on the forums in all their splendor.
Can you use the bloody search please? Do you really imagine there aren’t 15 threads open on RMT schmucks already?
