Gold cost for 150% Magic Find?
wow.. people actually do that ? solely by salvaging ecto ?
Archeage = Farmville with PK
You might figure out how much luck you need. Then the average number of luck per ecto to figure out how many ectos you need and the cost to buy them. Then the average number of dust you will get back and its sell back price to get a ballpark figure of how much the total cost will be.

ANet may give it to you.
What a waste of money tbh.

I agree. Buying ectos and salvaging may get you magic find fast but it’s expensive and high magic find gives you so little benefit that imo it’s not worth going out of your way to get it. Salvaging green and blue gear to get mats for sale and essences of luck on the side is good enough for me, but he did ask.

Buying trick or treat bags also helps…with luck, ascended mats and other suff (basically crap however)
Or put in buy orders for rares (or even exotics sometimes!), salvage the rares for ectos, then salvage the ectos into dust/luck. Sell the dust, sigils and mats and make a profit! Well, as long as you’re willing to do some math.
honestly 150% is easy to do just salvage every item u get by randomly playing.
Start thinking about powerleveling when u are at least 180-200%.
Keep in mind that once you hit 300% you will join an exclusive club that currently fills their storage with stacks and stacks of Exotic Luck……waiting for Anet to introduce some way to use them.
While I see an increase in the number of Rare’s I get, my 120% MF does not seem to be giving me anything that would warrant me spending tons of gold to increase it. Just let it increase naturally as you play the game.

The question is very simple, and there is a huge difference between saying “What a waste of money…” and saying “It costs by average xxx gold…”.
Is this a taboo for you guys?
I dotn’ remember. But I think I leveled both ways, buying cheap blue/green and ectos.
I probably spend in the ballpark of 700 gold to level from 220 to 280 magic find. The rest I just buy cheap blue and greens so I dont’ need to waste any money. So my guess less than 100 gold for 1-150 since it need 500,000 luck
I think the reality is if you are patient, you can just buy cheap blue and green to salvage and you probably wont’ need to spend any money.
Also, I think many people simply dont’ know because you can craft greater Ram lantern to recover some money and that is newly added in to game. And use the higher tier essence to level your magic find.
My suggestion is if you care to ask that question. You might as well buy cheap blue and green to salvage since 1-150 take very short time and you dont’ need to spend much if any that way.

For one thing you didn’t say what % you are now. The starting point makes a difference. For another thing, what it cost someone in the past when ectos were more expensive is not what it would cost now, if they even kept a record.

How much gold do you need to reach 150% Magic Find via salvaging Ectos?
As a new player that’s barely a month old i have 100% mf, and i don’t salv any ectos let alone rares barely(i have maybe 100 ectos from random rares i salvaged while leveling and upgrading and gathering skins)
If you didn’t hop in the lunar new year events, those were a ton of free MF points from the envelopes.

Not at all, but Ecto prices vary and so does the amount of luck you get from each salvage. Add to that the fact that the increases from % to % are not linear (there is a table on the wiki page, as I recall that details the needed values to raise % to %). ( Table on this page: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Luck )
There is no easy “XXX gold” answer (just some rough estimates). I’m sure there are threads around here that detail this but the search feature on this site is less than useful.
My previous comment was to discourage rushing the MF increase process to avoid the catch-22 players have when they max it. You won’t hurt my feelings a bit if you ignore my advice.
= Rough estimate below ====
Total Luck needed for 150% = 485,370
Average luck / Ecto salvage = 104.5 (rough estimate from here: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Glob_of_Ectoplasm/salvage_research)
To go from zero to 150% will require (on average) 485,370/104.5 will require around 4645 Ectos (not using Crude Kits).
Etos are currently around 32s so that would be about 1486.5g.
Keep in mind you will obtain (roughly) 7525 – 8593 Crystalline Dust (9243 if you salvage with BL kits) so at about 17s ea you should gain back 1279.3g – 1460.8g (salvage kit dependent).
Worst case estimate is 0% to 150% would run, on average about 207g.
The research page shows that if you actually USE BL kits, you should MAKE about 93g.

ok for science and I did some testing too.
Basically you need 500,000 luck. Which requires you to salvage about 19.6 stacks of ecots.
If we assume you use silver fed salvage kit(60 copper per use), and you resold your crystalline dust(15% tax loss). you’ll loss about 9.17 gold per stack of ecto salvage.
So you’ll need roughly 180 gold
There are work way around where you spend almost 0 gold, but it is really tedious. For every stack of ecto you can get roughly 7 stack of first tier essence and about 8000 luck of higher tier essence. So if you salvage 62 stack of ecto and sell roughly 400 greater ram lantern you’ll spned 0 gold.
You can probably spend 30 minutes everyday buying cheap blue and green to salvage and it should take you about 10 days without spending any gold to reach 1-150. (results may vary, as I did it a long time ago and market may changed)
craft masterwork and higher armor and almost every single armor gives you luck, most mats can be gained really easy and even the lower level armors give you luck.
that’s the cheapest to get a high luck rate, anything else will cost you or takes allot longer.

Thank you, that was very helpful.

I’m at 88% but the question is general, from 0% to 150%.
Thanks everyone for your insights!

Or:
1. Place buy order for a rare weapon selling for 22.5 silver
2. Salvage with master/mystic/silver fed for 0.85 ecto on average
3. Salvage that 0.85 ecto into 1.85 dust average per ecto (plus 100 luck per ecto), so our dust yield per rare = 0.85*1.85 =1.57 dust (and 85 luck) per rare.
3.Dust can be dumped direct to buy orders for 17.7 silver at the moment, so 1.57 dust times 17.7 silver minus 15% tax = 23.7 silver revenue (not counting any sigils or mats salvaged)
Costs were 22.5 s for the buy order plus 60 copper times 2 = 1.2s for the salvage kit uses, or 23.7 silver total, which happens to be equal to your revenue from selling the dust.
Therefore, you got 85 luck for free. You can blow 100’s of gold if you want it fast, but it doesn’t need to cost anything.
My suggestion is if you care to ask that question. You might as well buy cheap blue and green to salvage since 1-150 take very short time and you dont’ need to spend much if any that way.
This. Dont spend gold for mf%
