Gone for six months.... what in the world?
You now spend points “training” to unlock the traits you want. You can change the traits at will, but the unlocking is not able to do that.
The reason they went with unlocking for you, is to get you right back in there with the closest traits that you had already picked.
Leveling to 80 will let you train all of them, do skill challenges and you will get it all way before lvl 80.

If your characters are level 80, they have enough hero points to unlock all skills and traits and can switch between them.
If your characters are below level 80 your characters are stuck with what they have untill you get more hero points (which you get from leveling and from hero challenges).

So that means that I can’t reassign them?
For instance, my Guardian for some reason is specced to the max in valor… but I’m not sure why he would have been. I can’t change that out?

In the build tab on the hero panel you can swap to another trait line that you have learned.
You can’t unlearn traits or skills though.

i just switched the tree with an inactive tree(one of the 2 not currently in use)
and then switch back
but it only works if u arent lv 80
when u are lv 80, you should have all 3 trees fully traited

No, you can’t reassign hero points. However, like I said, at level 80 you will have more than enough hero points to unlock everything.
