Hello people, I will start in this game, and I want your opinions on the DPS.

In all games of this type I’ve always been a good dps class, and which can not choose this.

Thank you

Ele = top basically, Engi can beat it but takes a really elite level of play, Thief is high as well. Other professions still do good damage (sans necro, and mesmer due to practical reasons for PVE that is) just those 3 are the tops. To give some numbers, Guard is ~14-14.5k maxed out, Ele is 17.5k-27k depending on enemy hit box, Engi is 21k after like 60s with condi, 17k with power at ~30s. Lots of variables post coudl get long if I were to throw them all out, but if you’re looking to be the highest DPS go Ele basically, unless you like the stealth game then maybe thief or engi, engi if you like tying your fingers in knots.

Necro are really strong for solo pve play (or so i’ve found)
they lack utility more than damage in dungeons, but yeah, on balance they are underpar.
Mesmer is one class i’m glad i’ve already done world compl on, because i would not want to do that with them in their present state.

As far as DPS in a solo setting is concerned, there are 3 main classes that are all candidates for being the best depending on the circumstance:

-Elementalist
-Warrior
-Engineer

1. If the target in question has a large hitbox, for example Giganticus Lupicus, then elementalist is the absolute highest DPS by a clear mile.

Example: https://youtu.be/WXl_i3RY2rQ

2. Does the fight involve small hitboxes? Are there more than 1 enemy? Is the boss lightly armored? If any combination of the above is true, then chances are warrior will be the best DPS but sometimes an elementalist can match warrior as well… just less consistently.

Example: https://youtu.be/B78o5uBUZG4

3. If the boss encounter has mechanics that generally are too much for most other classes to handle, and if the encounter requires a ton of kiting and the boss(es) in question have heavy armor, engineer is extremely powerful using their condition builds, sometimes berserker builds for when an encounter involves heavy reflect damage.

Example: https://youtu.be/cybaFHX9mCQ

Generally speaking you won’t find many (if at all) encounters where these 3 aren’t the best solo DPS. There are some situations like for example condi ranger being the fastest to solo berserker abomination in Arah p2, but I can’t think of many bosses to kill that it wouldn’t be fastest with one of these 3 classes.

In pvp, quite possibly; in pve, maybe, but they’re a lot more complicated than at any other time (to do well; in my experience)

We have a lot more options and tweaks you cam do to optimise well for each encounter, spend some time thinking about what is most crucial for each fight and take a look at the group support and solo benefits available.

Even when just looking at Domination there is 12.5% extra vuln damage just sitting there and +30% Phant damage total to be grabbed with that line alone (15% Phant damage is base).

Dueling give Mesmers a source of Fury they never had access to before.

Inspiration gives such a powerful set of support tools (look at Signets = Dist from Dom and shared Dist from Insp), epic boon share (also mixes crazy well with Sig = Dist and the heal Signet), extra time on your TW/Feedback or Phant Defender procs.

Never been a better time to pick up Mesmer or get back into it, takee another look I’m sure you’ll find something exciting

Depends what you like.

This game is designed where each class is dps, self heal, and can really do anything. Only ele can do everything however with light armor, lowest health, and so many skills they are very hard to master.

I always suggest going to edge of the mists, everything is unlocked to test out on npc or dummies and see what you enjoy doing. No one can pick a class for you honestly other then yourself.

DPS isn’t a particular class in this game. It is a type of build. You go either full berserker or sinister gear, and then you pick traits to increase direct damage or condition damage. Every class can do this. So really, it comes down to style.

Elementalist.
PRO: Highest DPS in an AoE. Excellent self buffer and group buffer. Good field manipulation. Second most diverse class in the game. Can do maximum damage at range.
CON: Low defenses, both active and statistical. You have a few skill evades, and a few defensive buffs, but you’ll still be surprised how quickly you go down.

Engineer
PRO: Highest condition DPS. Excellent self and group buffer. Most diverse class in the game. Good at debuffing and vulnerability.
CONS: Very difficult to play, requiring 2 or 3 skill presses to accomplish what other classes can do in one. Will have to change utilities and traits frequently to meet demands, and won’t always be doing DPS.

Warrior:
PRO: Best self and group buffer in the game. High direct or condition damage. Second highest statistical bulk in the game. Good self healing.
CONS: Can’t buff as well doing condition damage. Lacks utility. Must be in melee range to be effective.

Thief
PRO: Highest single target damage in the game. High condi damage in groups. Spammable blast finisher. Good debuffs. Spammable attacks overall. Decent utility. Highly evasive. Best at stripping defiance.
CONS: Frail. Is only decent at self + group buffs on the condi build. Doesn’t have as good AoE damage or ranged damage.

Ranger.
PRO: Very high condi damage. Direct damage is good at stacking vulnerability. Highly evasive. Has a few unqiue buffs for groups. Strong burst damage.
CON: Difficult to play. Damage is tied to pet, which can be killed. Mediocre at most things.

Mesmer.
PRO:Highly evasive. Good group utility. Can theoretically sustain massive DPS. Good at debuffing and healing. Highly evasive.
CON: Sustained DPS is tied to phantasms, which die frequently. Low personal DPS. Bad at self or group buffing. Bugged traits mean lower condi damage.

Guardian.
PRO: Strong utility, decent healing and defensive buffs. Good field manipulation. Lots of blocks. A few good offensive buffs, too.
CONS: Middling damage, and frail past active defenses.

Necromancer.
PRO: highest statistical bulk. Can multiply conditions. Decent Vulnerability. Good at self buffing.
CONS: Has good AoE damage only in bursts. No good ranged options. Bad at group buffs. Low active defenses.

As for which one has the highest damage… that is where it gets complicated. Overall, Elementalist and Engineer have the highest direct and condition damage respectively. But the warrior has the best offensive buffs, and in a group that means a whole lot. The thief has high base damage, so with buffs they do the best single target damage in the game, which is good against all those champion and legendary mobs.

The mesmer has theoretically really high damage, arguably better than the “top” classes, but only in situations where their phantasms stay alive. The ranger is 3rd place in damage with conditions, but only if their pet stays alive. Guardians have second lowest damage, but that is technically, because they can beat out other classes in specific situations (ranger/mesmer when their buffs fail, thieves against 3 or more targets or at range, etc). The only class you could say is “low DPS” is the Necromancer, and that is in group settings where self-buffs aren’t as valuable.

I don’t have opinions. I only have facts I can’t adequately prove.
